Chicago’s reputation as one of America’s most distinctive cities owes a lot to the electric atmosphere and vibrant culture that defines Downtown Chicago. Iconic sites like Grant Park, Soldier Field, the Chicago Theatre, Navy Pier, and the Chicago Riverwalk are the most famous landmarks in Downtown, but that barely scratches the surface of what the neighborhood has to offer: dozens of theaters, live music venues, museums, and galleries fill the area, along with hundreds of shops and restaurants catering to every conceivable taste, plus the campuses of Columbia College Chicago, DePaul University, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
The Loop, Greektown, River North, and the Magnificent Mile are all nearby, easily reached by a short ride on the train. There’s no shortage of swanky apartments and condos in Downtown Chicago, but you can often find great deals on studios as well, allowing you to live in the heart of the action even if you’re on a budget.

Property Ratings at Student | The Flats East West
This will be my second year living here and the management changed which is honestly for the better except I felt like I was given less information when I came back. I was not longer informed about the guest policy or if there is one. There used to be but it seems much more relaxed now which is a plus. When they gave me my assignment, it told me which studio type I was getting and it ended up not being that studio type ( I was upset because I was supposed to be in the bigger studio but instead got the smaller studio with a handicapped bathroom). Maintenance was super quick with dealing with issues which is nice. There are no vents near the stove so if you're cooking, sometimes it will set off the fire alarm even if you're not necessarily burning something which is annoying. When I first got to my apartment it was a bit dirty and they hadn't dealt with any of the previous tenants additions. For example, there are a bunch of command hooks on the wall that I wrote up in my condition report because I know if I try to remove them, it will ruin the wall and I don't want to be charged for that. The Wifi seems to keep going out this year. At one point it went out for almost five days and I was unable to do homework and had to go to school late at night just to have internet access. I also know that around 3AM the wifi seems to go in and out for a bit... My LEAST FAVORITE thing about this apartment building is the water. There is some kind of chemical or maybe it's the pipes or something, but there is something weird in the water that leaves white chalky like stuff on my shampoo bottles and like if I wash a spoon and don't flip it over, a ring will form where the water was. It's also has started to rust some of my kitchenware if I leave it sitting in water in the sink for too long (like 3 days). And my skin HATES the water here. BUT, there is a free gym which is nice, it's nice to have security there all the time and they accept mail for you and what not. All utilities and water and everything is included which is also nice, especially during the winter when you want your room toasty warm and don't get a crazy heating bill for keeping it at 80 degrees all the time hahaha. The staff here are really nice too. I think the management change has made things a little bit different than before. I just want them to fix the wifi issue and whatever is up with the water.
My only real complaint is that the WIFI KEEPS GOING OUT. This is a student building, and we need WIFI. Everything else is great. Hopefully they fix it before the next leasing term.
I had the most attentive and caring representative assist me. Katria is what I expect most employees to be like when I’m looking for great customer service. She literally was so patient with answering all my questions and even provided me with thorough information. I definitely will be considering the flats at the top of my list.
I was calling around for apartments and I came across The Flats. I spoke with Katria and she was very friendly and gave great insight on resident life!
The building is in a fun area with lots to do, nice apartment lay outs, and 24 security. I talked to Katria all about the apartment and she was so knowledgeable and very professional! Over all I would definitely recommend.
