Southside Flats is one of two neighborhoods that make up Pittsburgh's dynamic Southside. The primarily residential neighborhood is located at the base Mount Washington, Southside's enormous hill. It also sits right under the Southside Slopes, the other Southside neighborhood, which runs precariously up the hillside. Residents of the Flats have convenient access to the hottest shopping and nightlife district in Pittsburgh, as well as riverfront trails and parks.
The lively neighborhood lies south of the Monongahela River and south of East Carson Street, known as the "Great American Main Street." One of Pittsburgh's major commercial corridors, East Carson Street offers 15 blocks of Victorian architecture, boutiques, restaurants, bars, art galleries, theatres, and live music venues.
Southside has experienced a residential renaissance, as older 19th-century homes, abandoned factories, and mills are being renovated into modern houses, apartments, and luxury lofts.

Property Ratings at The Flats at Southside Works
Went without hot water for two separate occasions for a week both times. Also went without a refrigerator for a week. Have received numerous responses of “it’s scheduled to be replaced no later than…..”. Instead of fixing a HVAC leak they put a pan underneath the unit in the ceiling. I have no confidence left.
Property Manager at The Flats at Southside Works, Responded To This Review
We're deeply sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered. We understand your frustration and disappointment, especially with essentials like hot water and refrigeration not being available when needed. Ensuring comfort and functionality for our residents is a high priority, so it's disheartening to hear about the HVAC leak situation as well. Please accept our sincere apologies as we work to improve these areas to regain your confidence in us.
This apt is a great walking area and meets my medical needs which require I walk daily. I really like that the apt building has only two floors and most of the residents are friendly and honest.
Though I think all rents are too high, this complex is less expensive than the newer builds. There are fewer amenities here, but the staff is always open to remedying any problem that arises. I miss the large washer dryers, but I know the sales are targeted to younger people, so I understand putting up the bike racks. the bike racks. I really love the proximity to the grocery store, but it's sad that some of the main attractions of Southside are gone. I would still recommend The Flats, though, and could probably live here indefinitely if it afforded more space
I've been here for 3 years and generally am very pleased. Becky and maintenance are wonderful. As I've mentioned before,if I had to have one complaint, I have noticed in the past year some noise coming from my neighbors' apartments such as loud music, parties, etc which has not been ideal, but I do realize it' just part of living in an apartment community. I must have just gotten lucky the first few years of living here that I had very quiet neighbors and/or vacancies surrounding my unit.
Yes
Great place to live! Great location, up to date, and safe. I live by myself and feel very comfortable with parking attached to the building.
My boyfriend and I just moved into these apartments and we love it. The atmosphere is great, we haven’t had any issues with noise. And the staff is always very helpful, and quick to resolve any issues you may be having. Great features too!
I've lived here a year and a half, now. It's very affordable for the amenities it offers (in-unit laundry, dishwasher, AC/heating in-unit, etc.) and how modern the apartments are. The building itself is very well-situated. There's a gym, grocery store, movie theater, restaurants, bars, cafes, great take-out options, a river trail, and much more all within a block. Management is friendly, and maintenance has pretty much always come within 24 hours of me putting in a request. I've had four apartments in the 6 years I've lived in Pittsburgh, and this has been my favorite. I've lived in apartments that marketed themselves are luxury living, and this one has everything that I enjoyed about that experience without the unnecessary bells and whistles that lead to rent being marked up 2-3 hundred dollars.
We lived there for more than 1 year and I can say that the apartment is beautiful and perfectly located. The only bad thing we can say is that we had many problems with the AC, the hot water, dishwasher, etc.. but maintenance was usually at the apartment to fix everything within 24 hours. Three things to know if you want to rent at The Flats: 1. They won't give you your full security deposit back even if you have your apartment professionally cleaned before you leave. They charged us 50$ even if we hired someone which is very frustrating. 2. If you're not of the highest floor (3 rd) you will hear your neighbors ALL THE TIME i.e. walking, talking, taking a shower, etc.. 3. If you have to leave earlier (relocation for work in our case) than what is stated in your contract, the landlord will never try to work with you to find another person to take your apartment. You'll have to pay the full 2 months for early termination fees and they really don't want to help you or hear what you have to say. They will get every single penny they can from you even if you were a very good tenant. We were very disappointed - I was expecting more understanding/communication from the Soeffer Organization. I'd honestly not recommend this place just because the way they handled our case when we left - it was poorly managed and unfair.
Flats at SouthSide Works is Located in the Coolest part of Pittsburgh. The Neighborhood has gone thru a Renaissance... Old Victorian architecture restored & factories and mills are being renovated along with new construction, restaurants, shopping and near Three Rivers Heritage Trail. The building Property manager/ Agent is knowledgeable, resourceful & a Pleasure to work with. Industrial Steel door, Blonde wood floors throughout apartment, Modern kitchen with all appliances in excellent condition, spacious tiled bathroom, walk in closet & floor to ceiling windows. Quiet & secure apartment building.
I moved in Aug. 2014 with a 12 month lease. I really enjoy living here, my only complaint is the price, but I think it is cheaper than the other apartments around. The neighbors are nice, everyone is friendly, from staff to neighbors. There are a lot of sirens and the noise from the clubs, but not enough to be a big issue. This is a secure place, it is clean, and really cozy. I am not sure if I will continue living here after my lease is up, but that is only because of the price besides rent, the parking fee is like 145 a month, and if you want a washer/dryer in your apt, you have to rent theirs, even though I have my own. For the most part, it is really a great place to stay.
I visited and toured the apartments. The rental agent was super and knowledgable. The place was in great shape and I could not hear any noise in the place. We tested sound levels between walls and floors. My wife can't tolerate any noise, so this was critical. I did not move to Pittsburgh after all, but would have loved to live there.
