Van Ness is located next door to Forest Hills, with Connecticut Avenue between the two neighborhoods. Van Ness is home to the University of the District of Columbia, DC's only public university and a rare urban land-grant university. Like most of DC's downtown neighborhoods, residents enjoy a walkable community with easy access to mass transit. The Van Ness-UDC Metro station offers service on the red line.
Connecticut Avenue is lined with shops and restaurants, providing a commercial district within the neighborhood. While you'll find many students living in the area -- especially around UDC -- Van Ness is considered a family-friendly, safe neighborhood with shady, tree-lined streets and gorgeous historic architecture.

Property Ratings at The Frontenac
I lived in a beautiful sunny studio on the top floor of the Frontenac for about a year and a half, and still get nostalgic about it sometimes. The building is old but beautifully maintained, which make the older features really charming. My studio was laid out in a way that really made it feel like I had separate kitchen and living areas, I loved that there is a window in the bathroom and the kitchen, and I had a separate sun room. Maintenance was fast and friendly, and I liked the package drop off system they had. It’s also rent controlled, and your lease will go to month to month after a year, which was great. I only moved because my life situation was changing, but will always have fond memories from my first apartment in DC.

I cannot say great things about this complex. The community is so friendly and truly makes you feel at home. The building is older, but the upkeep is tremendous and kitchens and other appliances are upgraded which is a huge plus. I like that it is cat friendly and there aren't ridiculous pet fees! Maintenance is awesome, and quickly work to fix things. I also love that its a quiet apartment (walls are thick), and everyone is respectful of one another. I lived at another apartment across the street, which was awful and I am glad I found the Frontenac!
I've lived in this apartment building for about seven years, and it's a great value. The units are spacious, and the walls are very thick. I almost never hear my neighborhoods unless they're talking right outside my front door. The staff are friendly and extremely responsive. Even though this isn't a premium new high rise, the staff really do a great job maintaining the property. I've recommended this place to several people.
Just entering the Frontenac gives you a taste of the historic charm of the building; the columns in front invite you inside an ornately decorated lobby that brings you back to the 1930s. The apartments are spacious and full of character, featuring nice, wooden floors and archways. Each has a solarium attached to its living room, letting in plenty of light. Chairs and tables adorn its rooftop, which features a decent view of Washington, with the Washington Monument, the National Cathedral, and Catholic University in sight. The neighborhood surrounding the building is canopied by trees, and while there are plenty of houses in the vicinity, up and down Connecticut Avenue by the building are dozens of restaurants and shops. This building brings out the best of living in a suburban part of Washington, DC.

I had searched through many studio apartments in the DC area and none compared to the Frontenac. The lobby is beautiful, the laundry room and rooftop patio amazing, and the apartment spacious, sunny, and welll maintained. Perfect apartment.
