Oak Creek is a suburban lakefront community just twenty minutes south of Downtown Milwaukee. With its close proximity to the larger city, low crime rate, and numerous high-performing public schools, Oak Creek serves as a highly popular home base for many Milwaukee commuters.
While mostly a residential community, there are a few large shopping centers positioned along Howell Avenue. The lakefront offers endless opportunities for boating and fishing, and the numerous public parks (Root River Parkway and Grant Park in particular) and golf courses give you lots of excuses to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. General Mitchell International Airport sits right on the north side of town, making it the terrific location for frequent travelers as well as daily commuters.

Property Ratings at The Gables Apartments
I lived at the Gables for just over 2.5 years, and while things started off great, they took a nosedive after about a year. Since December, I’ve had nothing but trouble: sewer backups, a smoking AC/heating unit, and a leaky AC. The new manager, Tara, is all about deflecting problems and passing them up the chain, where they just get ignored. If you’re eyeing a one-bedroom in the 285 building, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. You don’t want to deal with the mess of sewer backups that have flooded my apartment from the neighbors’ waste. It happened to me 2 times—twice when I was home and twice after I caught it before it got worse. After the second incident, I asked for a small rent discount, but it took six months of dealing with these issues before they finally offered a Visa gift card as a lame apology. The whole process was poorly handled. They brought in a plumber who, during a visit, suggested my neighbor might be flushing adult wipes and even discussed trying to evict her in front of me. Totally unprofessional. The regional manager tried to deny the third incident and complained about the costs of hiring professionals. If you're hiring experts, shouldn't they actually fix the problem? I don’t want to hear about how much money it’s costing you. Managing an apartment complex means dealing with these issues, whether you handle them yourself or hire someone to fix them. Complaining about costs is just an amateur excuse. It’s clear that they didn’t want to move me to a new two-bedroom unit because it would’ve cost them more, and that’s the real reason they didn’t address the problem properly. On top of everything, garbage pickup is a nightmare, especially in winter. With snow piling up, you’re left squeezing your garbage cans to the curb, which takes up more road space. On windy days, trash ends up blowing everywhere making it a dump, and tenants don’t always clean up after their dogs. Parking is another issue—nobody follows the no-parking rules on the road. They’ve also started charging for water, claiming it’s a common practice elsewhere, which isn’t true. Plus, the workout room equipment is frequently broken, and these “luxury” units are far from luxurious.??Look elsewhere for a management team that knows what they’re doing,
I've lived here for ten years, Jamie & Kim are so helpful and kind, and all the talented repair guys (sorry I'm not sure of names) are the best, no kidding! Something needs repair, it is quickly repaired with A+ work! I sincerely cannot say enough here, things are run smoothly, beautiful apartments, lawn is well maintained, snow removal is done swiftly, sidewalks shoveled, and pets are welcomed! A circle road to walk your precious pup! If you're looking for a place to call Home, you certainly should rent here.
Loved living here, would stay if not for a job relocation! Friendly & responsive staff, great unit layouts and amenities.
If you like screaming kids, this place is for you. Way too many kids here. They ride their bikes and scream. We live in a one bedroom with a den. The building we live in is pretty quiet. The kids across the way are not. This unit was not properly cleaned when we moved in here. Been here a month and I am still cleaning. Inches of dust, some hair, dead bugs in the closets and bathroom. Inches of grease and dust in the kitchen. The good? love the attached garage, dishwasher and washer dryer in unit. Maintenance is quick and friendly. Office staff is very nice. Do I recommend this place? No. Do I think it is worth the money you pay? No. Such a bummer because we went through a hassle and a lot of money to transfer here from their sister property down the road. Disappointed for sure!
I lived in the Gables for just over 10 years until I had the opportunity to purchase a house close by. In that time Oak Creek grew from a relatively sparse suburb to a destination with the nearby Drexel Town Square and other developments. The office staff changed over several times during my residency but always stayed friendly and responsive. The property is starting to get ready for some updates, but it is still well-maintained and home to a friendly community. Thanks to Ruth and the rest of her staff for a great stay.
I have been living in the Gables for four years and I love that versus the first year.
