Starkville is what you’d call a college town for sure. Home to a large student population focused on academics and sports, this city also houses numerous apartments near cool amenities. As you probably guessed, the gem of Starkville is Mississippi State University which is surrounded by bars, mom-and-pop eateries, boutiques, and bookstores.
When you live in Starkville, you’ll notice when the entire community gears up for game day. “Hail State” is a common greeting that echoes throughout the town, and it’s safe to say that a great deal of the community revolves around college sports like football. Locals, alumni, and visitors alike are often tailgating before a big game. On game day eves, New South Weekends in Starkville offer tons of activities from wine tastings to block parties.
MSU and surrounding neighborhoods have a lot of art and culture offerings. The Lyceum Series, presented by the university, features concerts, dance recitals, and musicals throughout the year.

Property Ratings at The Garden Homes of Highlands Plantation
There is too much good housing in Starkville for you to settle for the Highlands. I lived here 3 years. Two were decent. A few big problems but nothing to force me to move out, but as soon as I informed them I would be moving out, they made it very clear that they did not care about me any longer. They had blatant disrespect for my privacy. I came home one afternoon to find a for rent sign in my bedroom (something not agreed to in our lease). Do not sign any lease that allows them to not pro-rate your rent at the end of your lease. They will try to force you out 2/3 of the way through the month while charging you for a full month. Unless you are paying rock bottom prices, find a place in Starkville that is going to treat you much better. Housing is popping up every year. Don't settle for the Highlands.
