About an hour inland from Savannah, Statesboro is a charming small city steeped in history and culture. With Georgia Southern University occupying the south side, the college town atmosphere extends well beyond the campus with 20,000 enrolled students heavily influencing the city’s cultural landscape. The city’s Downtown district features countless examples or beautifully preserved architecture, with historic storefronts housing unique specialty shops and restaurants of every description, particularly clustered around the intersection of Main and Main (where North, South, East and West Main Streets come together).
The Statesboro Mall on the east side anchors the city’s larger retail district, with more shopping centers found along Fair Avenue near the Georgia Southern campus. Rental rates in Statesboro tend to be quite affordable, making life a little easier for folks on a budget.

Property Ratings at The George
This apartment complex is an absolute joke. I lived at The George for a year and a half and I have had no positive experiences here. There are bugs everywhere and when brought to the attention of the staff you are told that the exterminator comes once a month, but in all actuality I have seen the exterminator twice in my entire time at the george. It's so bad that even the main office gets infested with bugs and nothing is done. There are issues with maintenance as well such as the fact that I put in a request to fix a hot water heater because even at the coldest setting the water was 180 degrees which is extremly dangerous and it took over 2 days for someone to come look at it. I can continue the list of issues but the worst thing of all is that the managment DOESN'T DO ANYTHING! I have had so many issues with managment that it is ridiculous!!!! I have been given multiple false late payment notifications because someone fails to do their job. I turned in paperwork stating that I will have to end my lease due to military active duty and they refused to end my lease until I called the corporate office. I had asked multiple times to do the final walkthrough with managment and they agreed and then never showed up. And finally did the walkthrough over a month later and I dont have a chance to even look over the issues due to the fact that I am currently in RI for military active duty! This place is the worst place you could possibly choose when living in statesboro!!!
My roommate and I literally can’t afford to turn on the heat because they charge so many overages. Last month we only had the heat on for maybe three days and we were literally both gone for more than a week meaning no utilities were being used. Somehow we still got hit with an overage just like every other month. I put in a work order about my broken window in the living room literally the day after I moved in and the maintenance staff didn’t show up until a month later. I understand that move in time is hectic and everyone puts in work orders but that is ridiculous especially since the guy was really rude and didn’t even try to fix my window. He just told me why it was broken and then left. After receiving a $70 overage for one month (a combined total of $140 since there are two of us living here) I put in a work order to have the weather strips on my door replaced hoping that would help with the issue. Except they never fixed it. The account manager is beyond sweet and has always tried her best to help out but I still wouldn’t recommend living here to my worst enemy.
I love it here! I was reading other reviews and I do not believe half of these. I’ve lived here for a while and never had any problems. The only time I’ve ever had a problem was recently over the summer 2017 (August to be exact) the company switch utility providers and we got charged an outrageous amount. But the office staff explained it and tried to help the best they could. They sent out an email stating that we could dispute it if we felt the need too, which I was extremely happy that they tried to help the situation. Most places just say oh well and make you pay it without you having a chance to dispute it. They told everyone that they were basically given the run around by the new utility company and yet I would still hear people talk incredibly rude to them and yell at the office staff (who by the way ARE COLLEGE KIDS- the same age as most of the other tenants) whenever I would go up there. It’s shocking that people write that the staff is horrible and rude. I’ve never experienced any of that. They’ve always been exceptionally nice and try to strike up a conversation with you! (Maybe some people need to check THEIR attitudes towards the staff). I love the space I have in my apartment! The closet is huge and will fit everything plus more! On the down side there are sometimes bugs, but you can put in request that are free to have a pest control come out to spray your apartment. Also I would have liked to be able to use the club house the 3 months it was under renovations and not be surprised with sudden fees, but after reading my lease over, it states the fees and that we do not pay for the clubhouse, that it is a conveniency. I do not believe The George is a scam or bad for the price. I just think people should read the lease and understand what they’re getting into prior to signing it, instead of just signing on the spot. I read it through and nothing has been short of true.
Lived here when it was Legacy until December 2017. Horrible place. Everything in disrepair, over priced for the small size and poor quality. Renters insurance is a scam too - they'll continue to charge you even after you've moved out then explain that the policy runs separately from your lease DESPITE the fact that you're encouraged to use Resident Insure and the Legacy (now The George) website is directly linked to the insurance site. Check your apartment carefully before move-in, there's typically a lot of damage from prior tenants and even though management probably won't fix it at least you'll document it was there before you were. Also not very secure - someone kicked in the door of our apartment during holiday break, door frame, lock and door were badly damaged. Instead of replacing the door and lock management had maintenance GLUE the pieces of wood from the frame and door back together and re-paint it. The door couldn't lock properly and definitely wouldn't withstand another kick if someone wanted to break in. Renter beware, you can do better.
I absolutely love living here! The staff are absolutely amazing and so helpful! The maintenance is fast and efficient and paying rent is so easy and affordable. I love the amenities and the events that are held here. The location is perfect for Georgia Southern students (right across from campus!) and it's only a short drive for East Georgia and Ogeechee Tech students! There is a courtesy officer on the property and the Legacy is also right across from campus police so it makes me feel really safe! I LOVE LEGACY!! ?
I love this apartment complex. The trees make it feel like home and the apartments are so cute and spacious. Great place to live. Great staff. It's also convenient that it's so close to all the stores.
Do Not Stay Here! I only gave one star because the review forces you to at least give one. This is honestly one of the worst places you can stay in Statesboro. The management and staff are really rude and do not help you at all. They are very bad with rent and make numerous mistakes. For example I paid my rent last month and they told me everything was paid off and clear. When I came to pay my rent for this month they said I still had $50 to pay from the last month even though I reminded them that I was told that my account was clear. They also told me my utilities for the month was $19 but two days later I received another email stating that they made a 'mistake' and I owe them $15 more dollars. Seeing as these are supposed to be trained professionals I fell these mistakes should not happen every month. The staff is honestly irresponsible and many mistakes have been made not only with me but with other residents as well. The maintenance staff are also very rude. I've had quite a few occasions where they come into my apartment without knocking or saying anything. I am a female and the maintenance staff I have seen are all male so it is really scary and uncomfortable when all of these males walk into your apartment that you pay for without notice and without apologizing for coming in unannounced. I have also experienced rudeness when saying hi to the maintenance team, a grandfather and his grandson, without them responding at all but just giving me a rude look. I placed a request in for a broken fan in July and it is now September and it is still broken and the maintenance man, grandfather, refusing to fix it. There are many other options in Statesboro for you to stay please do not get fooled by this apartment complex. The staff will lie to you and in my short time living here I have been lied to from almost every staff member in the office, excluding one community assistant named Tory. They are very bad and are especially not good for anyone on a college or graduate school budget as they always come up with ways for you to owe them more money. I should also mention that I have a full time job and I am a graduate student at Georgia Southern University so 6 out of 7 days of the week I am out of my apartment from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM yet I somehow still have overages every month. Truly do not stay her and look at other places to live as you will have a better and less stressful experience.
This is an outstanding building for my first time living alone. A beautiful veranda (thanks to moi), a walk-in closet that i could rent out (seriously), and a spacious floor plan that unlike most is modern and easy to personalize. In such a rural area it's nostalgic yet refreshing to live in such a well designed apartment reminding me of my Atlanta roots.
