New York City’s Upper West Side is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan. While landmarks like the Metropolitan Opera, the Lincoln Center, and the American Museum of Natural History lend a distinctly highbrow air to the landscape, the overall community environment favors down-to-earth personalities and accessible neighborhood amenities.
So what’s it like to live in the Upper West Side, and what exactly is this neighborhood known for? The local dining scene is superb, featuring a vast landscape of restaurants representing every style and flavor imaginable, most of which are affordable enough to become regular stops. Grocers and retail stores are close at hand, and everywhere in the Upper West Side is within walking distance of Central Park— those living near the eastern edge of the neighborhood can enjoy gorgeous views of the sun rising over the park every morning.

Property Ratings at The Greystone
This apartment complex calls itself luxury when in 20 years they have never once had all elevators working. While tenants are not allowed to sublet their apartments, the rental agent is running a full air bnb business renting out units and then will lie about it. The hot water is out frequently with no notice, my apartment had a number of issues that I was told would be fixed before I moved in but have never been actually fixed (my window will pop out of the frame every time I open it but when I submit a maintenance request they just shove it back in and it’ll pop out the next time I open it. Do not rent here, signing this lease was the worst financial decision I’ve ever made.
Everything in this building is in awful condition yet they try to pass it off as luxury. Nothing they said would be fixed by the time I moved in had been done and the “repairs” they did were all ineffective band-aids. Maintenance comes specifically when I ask them not to, my window has fallen out of the frame multiple times since they “fixed it.” Moving here was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made, the fact they try to market this building as luxury is actually laughable.
I have lived here in a very small little studio since Feb, 2019. I love this building! Even my small space is great - sleek modern kitchen, updated bathroom and for a small space... great storage. I know they have bigger apartments and those are beautiful too - I just did not need. The building is always clean and the staff is great. The front desk attendants are always so friendly- they learned my name very fast which was nice ad made me feel welcome! With an older building there have been issues time to time but management is very good about quick communication and updates. The rooftop was the the thing that did it for me as well as the lounge, gym and clean laundry. The amenities make living in a smaller space totally do-able! Would totally recommend to any age or space needs, I have had a great experience (Also during COVID, I felt comfortable based on all the cleaning and social distancing they put in place!)
This is my first apartment in New York since relocating here almost a month ago. So far it's been great - the apartments have modern finishes, and the building has inviting common areas, clean hallways, and friendly/helpful staff in the lobby. Plus the building is in a great location for me - there's a sushi place down the street, the 1, 2, and 3 train just a few blocks away, and a Whole Foods about 15 minutes away on foot. Rent seems a little more pricey than some buildings I saw elsewhere in the city, but the experience so far has convinced me I made the right choice.
