Starkville is what you’d call a college town for sure. Home to a large student population focused on academics and sports, this city also houses numerous apartments near cool amenities. As you probably guessed, the gem of Starkville is Mississippi State University which is surrounded by bars, mom-and-pop eateries, boutiques, and bookstores.
When you live in Starkville, you’ll notice when the entire community gears up for game day. “Hail State” is a common greeting that echoes throughout the town, and it’s safe to say that a great deal of the community revolves around college sports like football. Locals, alumni, and visitors alike are often tailgating before a big game. On game day eves, New South Weekends in Starkville offer tons of activities from wine tastings to block parties.
MSU and surrounding neighborhoods have a lot of art and culture offerings. The Lyceum Series, presented by the university, features concerts, dance recitals, and musicals throughout the year.

Property Ratings at The Hangout | Student Housing
In the three months I've lived here, the AC has stopped working 4 times (which isn't even safe given how hot it gets here). I've had to submit SO many maintenance requests, but the fixes are always short term and the air just stops working again. One time it took a week to get it fixed while the apartment was 84-86 degrees. There have also been multiple instances in which the property has sent messages meant for one resident to all the residents. These messages have included private and sensitive information about residents. It's incredibly unprofessional behavior. Getting appliances fixed really feels like playing Whac-A-Mole - as soon as one is working again, another one breaks. Coming from a current resident, save yourself the frustration and sweat and live somewhere else.
This is my second year living here and its been nothing short of a peaceful experience. On top of it being close to campus so its also a very convenient.
I’ve lived her almost a year now and there’s definitely a few things they could improve on. Walls are extremely thin, the people above me stomp and wake me up all the time. We had a roach problem for months, we complained to them 6 times and they never did anything. The only reason we stopped having roaches was because the upstairs neighbors moved out so they probably weren’t very clean people. Dog crap where people walk. Parking isn’t that great. They need new carpets. Other than that it’s not too bad. I enjoy it. Nice rooms, walk in closets, good living room area, 2 gyms, 2 pools, and even a little game room. Staff is friendly. 7/10
I lived here for 2 years, and you can’t beat the situation of this place… for the price. This was easily my favorite place I stayed at. Pros: trail to campus, 4 bed/4 bath, elevated ceilings, fully furnished, cheap, 2 gyms, basketball court, and 2 pools. Cons: We had a roach/fruit fly/spider/bird problem while we were here, thin walls, dog poop everywhere, crappy neighbors. Overall though, 4/5 for sure.
I just moved here in January for school and I absolutely love it. They have anything that you could ever need right there on the property. The amenities are great and the staff is amazing. They really do anything they can do help resolve any problem you may have. I definitely recommend living here.

We appreciate your enthusiastic recommendation of our community! Thank you for highlighting our team's dedicated service and our wonderful amenities.
When I first moved here, it was named “the pointe”, I had a decent stay here,. However, the next year while living here new MONEY HUNGRY management took over. Never fixed things, and were rude whenever I went to the front for a concern. When i moved out, they charged me a move out fee of “$100” for a old damaged mattress. How could you over charge someone for furniture you had no idea how it looked before I even moved in. They are money hungry, and will overcharge residents.

I've been living here for a semester and I'll renew my lease soon. My move in was very pleasant, the office people are super nice and very helpful. The maintenance service is excellent, I always have my things fixed the same day I fill in the work order. The apartments are very big and include great amenities. It's a 9 to 10 min walk to campus so no need to drive to school.

They are not the best apartments, but you can't beat the walk to campus or the costs.

I’m honestly not sure who was paid to write these reviews because I do not know a single person who enjoys living here. The management staff is wildly unprofessional. One night they towed my car, made me pay to get it out, and then charged me for it. There are roaches and mold in the air conditioning unit. Overall living here has been miserable and I would not recommend anyone paying for their child to live here

This is a good place to live if you go to MSU because you can walk to campus. They also have some of the best parking of all the apartments in Starkville. These apartments are also dog-friendly with is great!
Gosh this place is terrible. Parking is terrible and residents are careless drivers. The complex took out two, much needed stop signs! Also, roommate matching is a joke. They put me with two loud, partying, immature roommates with animals, even though I specified for the opposite. The walls are incredibly thin, so you can hear everything going on in the entire apartment unit. Utilities overages are always popping up. They even tried to charge me an overage for a maintenance job. Something is always broken or not working quite right. Staff is rude and unprofessional. They have a bunch of college kids working the desk, so they don't think they have to act like professional adults. Staff wouldn't answer my calls or emails to tell me anything about moving in after I signed my lease. I guess since they already had my signature they didn't have to care to treat me like a PAYING customer. Don't let management trick you into believing they care. Honestly, a terrible place to stay. It is nice that you can walk to campus, but it is not worth it. The only way to like living here is to already have your own roommates, not care if you have to park on the other side of the complex(or not at all in the complex), and hope nothing breaks in your apartment. Also, I am pretty sure they have the staff come rate this place on the website because I have not met anyone who actually likes it here, but that's just my conspiracy theory.
The Pointe is so convenient , I walk to all my classes and even work(@ the sanderson) everyday!! Defiantly recommend!
I only stayed here since August. My apartment had mildew they didn’t change it until I threaten to report it I got sick from & took them 3 weeks to do so. Roaches are everywhere spiders literally sleep in my bed. Apartments are old & stink I hate it here & cant wait to leave!!!
First let me say I have lived here three years and when we first moved in the apartment was nice and we were pleased with the condition of the space. (Most people were not so lucky many of our neighbors had stained carpets and torn up furniture and broken appliances) However, management is a different story. In the three years I have been here the only thing they fix within a reasonable time (most of the time) is a leaking air conditioner and that is only so it doesn’t ruin the carpet and they’d have to pay for it. The gate has not been closed a single day I’ve lived here. All. Three. Years. I’m pretty sure that living in a “gated” community is considered one of their aminities and most definitely included in our rent. The parking situtuion here is ridiculous. People literally fight over parking spots. Maybe if the gate was closed that wouldn’t be such a problem. Our apartment flooded one time from the people above us leaving the tub running and it was almost a whole day before anyone came to even see the damage. They say they have an after hours “emergency line” but no one answers. No one answers during the day either though when they are actually staffed either so I’m not really surprised. If you plan on living here I would reconsider unless a lackadaisical management team who doesn’t care about resident is what you’re looking for.
They spend money on things to take pictures of and advertise like the phase 2 pool, and then they close it down for literally the entire summer. They change office hours ALL THE TIME, reducing them every time MSU classes end. There was a wasp problem outside my building for a while, roaches abound, and I my 1st floor room came complete with a swamp outside the balcony. The best part is you cant get inside your building without a stupid key fob, so it's almost like living in the dorms again!
-They closed the pool for the summer -My wallet and keys were stolen from the pool, then we found out they dont have working security cameras and the “security” is maintinence staff with a security T-shirt. Also, the Starkville Police Department said they had talked to the Pointe about getting those cameras working before, but the Pointe just won’t do it. -My apartment flooded twice because of the old washing machines here, and we had fans in our apartment for 2 weeks after each incident. We couldn’t be anywhere but or rooms. Then the maintinence staff never came back to put the flooring back down, I had to do that myself. -Property manager (the new one) said to get the trash out *now* when the apartment flooded because maintinence needed to put fans down, so my GUESTS took the trash out. They put it downstairs because they didn’t know where the dumpster was. I did not know that was where it was until I received an email saying my apartment was charged $150.00 for it. -They used to have an office for Phase 2 and Phase 1, now we have to drive to Phase 1 Office to do anything or get any packages because they don’t provide services at Phase 2 Office anymore. Just make the drive and pick a place with better management. It’ll be worth it.
Continuation from ch. 2 and 1: Obviously, I was alarmed so I yelled, "What are you doing?" at one of them standing by the door and he looked very confused. He then proceeded to inform me that they were checking the lights in the other bedrooms. I questioned why they were here 4 hours past normal operating hours and he said that during turnover week, they are allowed to enter any and all apartments from 7am-10:30pm. Again, I was outraged and asked where that was posted or how I was supposed to know that and he claimed that they should have sent out an email. Thinking it may not have been sent to me, I accepted that as a plausible thing and waited until 10:30 to lock the front door and my bedroom door before going to bed. The next morning I called into work saying I would be late because I needed to talk to the management so I could go into the main office at 8:30am (within normal business hours, of course) but apparently management doesn't come in until 9am. So the poor girl who was in the office got an earful along with tears because I was so frustrated and scared. She also informed me that there was never an email to say what the hours were during turnover week and that the general rule was for the workers to knock, wait 15 seconds, and then announce "maintenance" before unlocking the door. I Informed her that NEITHER of the groups from the night before did that and described the workers to her. She promised they would be reprimanded for it but my roommate happened to be in the office a few weeks later when they were "reprimanded" and they were simply told to "knock next time you enter a unit." DO NOT LIVE HERE. THE MANAGEMENT IS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND WILL NOT LISTEN TO ANY REASON OR ABIDE BY FEDERAL LAWS. I CREATED THREE ACCOUNTS JUST TO WARM EVERYONE.
continuation from ch. 1: When they finally finished this "repair" the ceiling was very sloppily replaced and a very splotchy paint job was done to cover a few marks on the wall. Given, this was a third party company, the pointe sent in their maintenance to check to make sure everything was done right. Upon their inspection, they decided my wall needed to be completely repainted. I asked if they HAD to repaint it now or if it could wait until I moved out, they said it was fine to wait until I moved out. Now they want to charge me for it. If that's not bad enough, over the summer of 2017 I stayed in my apartment because I had a job on campus. We had two roommates move out over the summer (I lived in a four bedroom) so the pointe had to come in and clean those rooms over the summer for the new tenants. I assumed that meant maintenance would be coming in during their normal business hours (8am-5pm) to do repairs/clean/check furniture. In the lease, it states that they are allowed to enter "with reasonable notice." What I didn't know was that this "reasonable notice" was a simple two knocks on the front door and a quite announcement of "maintenance" upon entering. One day during "turnover week" two of their workers walked in COMPLETELY UNANNOUNCED at 6pm. There was no knock on the door, I was even sitting on the couch in the living room so I would have heard it. Also, one of them didn't even have on a Pointe shirt so when he walked in, it looked like some random guy had a key to my apartment and was coming in whether I wanted him to or not. That was absolutely terrifying for a girl living alone. They then informed me that the just needed to check the AC units in the empty bedrooms so I said, "alright" and went back to watching TV. Instead of checking said AC units, THEY SAT DOWN ON MY COUCH TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH ME. Again, two seemingly completely random guys who had a key to my apartment NOT EVEN DOING THEIR JOB. LATER THAT SAME NIGHT at 9pm as I was in my bedroom getting ready to take a shower, I hear the front door open again. I walk out to see what is going on and there are FOUR GUYS RUNNING INTO AND OUT OF MY APARTMENT.
Whatever you do, DO NOT lease from the pointe. I have lived here for two years, in the same exact room and they continually change policies without more than a week's notice. The first year I lived here wasn't horrible, except for the fact that there was at least one week per month where they had special maintenance issues to "fix." For example, in October of 2016, they decided that all of the AC units in Phase II needed some kind of "fix" (I don't remember what they called it specifically). They had a third party contractor come in for TWO WEEKS and completely rip out part of my ceiling and outside wall to replace some pipes or something. ALL of my furniture had to be moved and there was dust/debris EVERYWHERE for the entirety of the two weeks. Additionally, prior to coming in and doing all of these "fixes" they sent out an email detailing that this procedure would be done essentially over MSU's fall break. So I didn't think anything of it, assuming it would be done by the Monday I came back. But they didn't actually start the entire two week procedure until the Monday after fall break, an entire week behind schedule. When I called to ask management how long this procedure would take, they could't even give me an estimate. Not to mention, they would prop open both the front door to our unit AND the front and back doors to the building. This made the entire building EXTREMELY humid and, since they were "fixing" the AC unit, it barely worked.
This place is gross. I always have bugs, they never fix anything and when they do it is a terriable job, utilities are always going out or being “repaired.” I have lived here 12 months too long. They throw ridiculous charges on when you move out such as paying for a “professional” cleaning company to clean your carpets. The new management as of 4/18 is terrible. I met with the manager and she is extreemly unprofessional and terribly unreasonable. She interrupted me and was far from well spoken. This place is also unsafe. The gates have never been locked, the doors are continuously propped open, and people are always driving far to fast in the parking lot. Also, the parking lot is too small. I can never find a parking spot near my apartment after 6 pm. They have very few guest parking spots and sometimes they will limit the guest parking useage during game weeks. I would have to keep my car parked in a guest spot for a week if I had friends or family coming to visit. I am pleading with you to live somewhere else, pay more or pay less, either way, you will be better off. It is not worth the conscience of walking to campus.
Roaches. Unsafe. Sure it's big and cheap, but they need money to pay for their unprofessional staff so they get it on the back end when you move out. Go to Helix or Haven. Go anywhere else. Run far far away.
The staff is rude and unprofessional. They like to add charges after telling you that you don’t have to pay nothing but rent. Maintenance workers take forever and a day to come and fix stuff and when they do, they just come inside your apartment without announcing it. They also will take whatever items they want. A few of my things cane up missing and the staff acted like they didn’t even care. Then they have bug problems and when you call and tell them, they say you have to caught an exterminator because they only come there once a week. I would NOT recommend anyone moving here.
I lived in the pointe for two and a half years. I will say during my time there that the staff in the front office was nothing short of unprofessional and rude. Each time I called about an issue, I never got to speak with a representative. The manager was always busy. Yet when I went into the office, she would be sitting at her desk literally doing nothing. When I spoke with someone, a staff member or manager, they were always rude. Lets not mention I received consent from the manager to terminate my lease early due to graduation. Needless to say I was still charged after my full evacuation and returning of the key. I see nothing has changed since I left! The only thing great about the place is the fact that it is so close to campus.
Our daughter was ROBBED after spending one night as a resident at The Pointe. Someone was obviously watching her and when she stepped away from the car rummaged through her belongings stealing valuables. We tried numerous times to contact the office during their posted office hours and got nothing but recordings. Would love a refund - now!!!!!
Apartments are dirty, staff and management are uncaring and just downright rude. Mantience takes literally FOREVER to address a work order (I had to wait over a month to get our washer/dryer fixed), and worst of all, they feel like they have the right to come into your unit with no announcement whatsoever. Once had a guy come in while I was sleeping and he banged on my door asking me to let him in at 10 at night. Also, don't even bother filling out a roommate matching form. Ended up getting the exact opposite of what I wanted - two slobs who left their dishes in the sink and slouched in their underwear every day at 10 am. Parking is also a nightmare. People race down the driveway like its the Daytona 500 and nobody seems to care whatsoever. The only real benefit to this place is how close it is to campus and the internet is alright at most. This place has the potential to be a really good complex but it needs a complete rehaul of the staff and management along with doing updates to the units, especially the older phases. It's a shame to see such a terrible complex in such a great location.
