Property Ratings at The Hargrove at Southpoint
Truly I’m sure any apartment is better than these. I get charged $70 for amenities- but the pool is empty, the trash cans In the dog park are ALWAYS full and the gym is never cleaned. Maintenance requests get fulfilled sometimes and slowly. Our appliances all smell, office manager is incredibly rude. The trash compactor is always overflowing- like 2x capacity. Just a poorly managed complex. We can’t wait to move out!! No reduced rent is worth it here.

**** DO NOT MOVE HERE **** My AC broke on 5/31, submitted a Work order through the portal to be fixed. Left for the weekend, came back on Sunday June 2nd and noticed that maintenance had entered my home (without alerting me) and installed an AC window unit in my living room. I was upset that they didn’t contact me first, but grateful for the window unit. According to my work order, the AC should have been fixed on June 4th. My elderly mother stayed in my apartment while I went to work in case the maintenance crew showed back up. Nobody did. On June 5th, I contacted the front office and asked them when my AC was going to be fixed. I was told that because my AC unit needs to be replaced they are not sure when it will be fixed because they are waiting on a contractor. Told me it could be Friday or next week, who knows. I’m starting to think they don’t pay their contractors by how slow things move here. ON TOP OF THAT, My apartment is right next to the trash and as of today (June 6th) the trash has not been picked up for over a week and is overflowing with garbage right outside my back patio which is where my AC window unit is. Due to the trash overflow, my window unit is sucking in that awful smell and pushing it right into my apartment. The abundance of trash is inviting rats, snakes, and more. I have reported this issue to the health department as that is a sanitary hazard. I would like to request another window unit for my bedroom, but that window is even closer to the mountain of trash. The grass was mowed for the first time last week In months. I would take my dog out to go potty and there were so many rodents in the grass due to an unkept environment that hawks were diving down trying to eat. The pool was supposed to be open on Memorial Day weekend and that is still closed. The lady at the office who I spoke to and my mother spoke to independently, was rude and not helpful at all. Lack of empathy and no compassion. Customer service is an opportunity here as well. I have contacted the Mayor, WRAL news, and the Durham Herold. Nobody should have to live this way; ever. Especially when we are paying to live here, but the Hargrove at Southpoint doesn’t seem to care or address your issues with solutions, they only add to your problems, by dismissing you as a person. To say I am disappointed, is an understatement. Absolutely awful. Please consider looking other places before coming here, I truly wish I would have.

My wife, 15 month old son, and I are homeless because of The Hargrove at Southpoint! We began the process of finding a new place in April, found The Hargrove at Southpoint, applied snd were approved. We needed a May 31st move in date and were told that was fine, they had a unit for us so we signeda lease. We paid our security deposit in mid May we set up gas, electric, and internet as per the terms of the lease we signed to start on the 30th. We also prepaid our 1st month's rent in mid May. Fast forward to May 30th, and I get a text from them saying "Good afternoon, I wanted to reach out to confirm that the leasing agent had reached out to let you know you would not be able to move in 5/31". I immediately called them, I was told that The Hargrove at Southpoint had never signed the lease on their end and that they have no legal responsibility to help us. I asked for financial compensation for a hotel and was denied. I was offered a $200 credit for my first month's rent and was told that potentially our move in date would be June 7th. Stay away from this property, apparently they recently changed management and/or ownership and mlst people are saying they're having issues with them!

Keep looking! I have been quiet but this getting out of hand. Since the purchase of this property by S2, this neighborhood has gone downhill. My building has mice. Rather than fix the issue, management has asked my neighbors to keep asking for glue traps to catch them themselves because maintenance is swamped with requests. You will also need to request bug spraying instead of them doing it on a consistent basis which means if your neighbor isn’t keeping up with it along with you, you’ll still have pests because these apartments are nestled amongst the woods. I truly feel sorry for the new maintenance men but living with pests, while paying these prices is unacceptable. While we are on the topic of maintenance, I had a water stain appear on my ceiling. When maintenance came in they painted over the stain and said “now you don’t have a stain”. I asked about fixing the leak that was causing the stain, it’s been 4 months. I guess maintenance is still “backed up.” Now let’s talk trash. Instead of fixing the issue which is strangers driving up onto the property and using our compactor as a public compactor, they placed large dumpsters all around the complex. The result, increased dumping by strangers, dumpster diving, and increased pests. You will also pay a Common Area Maintenance Fee this includes products no one uses, a fire pit you’re not allowed to use, a dog park that needs new mulch, repair, and emptying of poop bag receptacles. Put on your DIY hat when you move here. I cannot wait until my lease is up. This place had friendly service, staff that actually interacted and spoke to its residents, and most of all you received quality living. Not anymore.
Since the apartment complex was sold, it has gone down hill. The dog waste containers are overflowing and have not been emptied in months. The available poop bags at each waste station has not been filled either. This is with all waste bins, including in the dog parks. They are not in a remote area of the apartment complex. There is also a monthly fee to own a dog. I do not know where this money is going since it is not going to maintenance of upkeep of the waste containers nor the two dog parks. Parking can be difficult despite multiple available apartments. Expect to occasionally park far away from your apartment. There are a number of broken vehicles and cars with flat tires throughout the apartment complex. These cars have not moved in months and taking up spaces close to the apartments. Some of these cars do not even have licenses plates and are an eye sore. It will take over two weeks for a work order to even be reviewed. You will not be notified of any delays. You just have to wait to be seen. I thought it was a smoke-free apartment complex with designated smoking stations. Apparently this is not true, and people are standing around smoking outside their apartments and throwing the cigarette butts right onto the ground. The grounds of the apartment complex is filthy, littered with cigarette butts and other debris. Areas can also reek of marijuana. There are a number of large trash dumpster scattered around the complex. This may be due to the plan renovation of all apartments. Because of this, you can see the old home appliances sitting on the sidewalk for days. You can see through the oven door and see the oven filled with trash. The main trash dumpster is always full and trash is seen scattered throughout the area. The recycle containers are also always full and limited to only about 4 bins.
Can honestly say compared to other places I’ve lived in, this is the most professional, timely and courteous staff I’ve experienced. I highly recommend living here! -Richie
I found 4 different phone numbers for these apartments over the course of a month and a half (at least), and they all go straight to the same voicemail. I've left at least 6 messages since I first saw them, and no one has ever called me back. The last voicemail was left while waiting in front of the office after having scheduled a tour and having received confirmation. They even sent a reminder 2 hours before. Just like the week before after not being able to schedule a tour, and dropping by, there was no one there and the doors were locked. The weekend before I even went back after an hour - same result. In both cases there wasn't even a sign on the door indicating that someone was out and would return later - NOTHING! Also, the voicemail still mentions The Bridges at South Point as does the sign in front of the apartments. I was really encouraged by the descriptions of the apartments, but if the apartments treat prospective renters this way, I can't imagine how badly they treat existing renters!!
I have never posted a review, but I do not want anyone to share a similar experience like mine during my one year stay at Bridges. First, let me say my rent was always paid on time no financial issues on my end. The staff in the office are friendly and always pleasant. Now, the problems I will try to be as brief as possible. I read the reviews, but the staff assured me that they were not typical experiences at that time, the overall rating was about 2.5 stars and for good reasons. First, the review that says bugs, bugs, bugs believe it ultimately. When I moved in within a month a hole, the size of a softball was in the wall. It was covered by the bathroom mirror. I discovered a gnat infestation in the hole and other places all over the apartment the entire year. Gnats everywhere it was so bad; eventually, I took quick showers, but other things like shaving, brushing teeth, cutting hair had to be done in the kitchen sink otherwise bugs were flying in your face. Anytime while trying to use my computer or watch tv bugs were attracted to the light, and they flew in my eyes. Pest control came several times throughout the year but never fixed the issue. Bug traps and sprays were used daily but very little relief; as a result, I have developed a respiratory infection which is still being treated. However, the location of your apartment in the complex does matter. Not everyone will have the same type of experience. Communication is a significant problem even from day one, but when I realized this issue, my deposit was already paid, and I had unfortunately signed my lease. Make sure you get clarity with all finances due in the end or don't expect to get your deposit back no matter how clean you leave the apartment. Not only will you lose the deposit, but you will end up with a bill after leaving. They will not explain this to you unless you ask. I have not read all of the other reviews, but some of the residents have not been there long enough to give an accurate rating. Lastly, if you are not a pet lover beware, there are dogs everywhere. I am a dog lover, but some people may not be able to handle that amount. I give at least a star for the grounds kept clean and one for a good mail and package policy. If you can tolerate the other annoyances, then Bridges is the place for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. It is reviews like your that keeps us in the loop to push for greatness.
The best thing about this facility is the maintenance staff. The office staff is somewhat okay. My biggest issue was response time, you’re better off speaking with maintenance directly instead of going through the front office staff. I had a baby bird in a nest sitting in my chimney and I contacted the front office staff at 9am and was told someone would be over ASAP. At 12pm I called again because no one had come to remove the bird. I was told again someone would be there ASAP. By 1pm I went to the front office and asked again because by this point the bird was becoming louder and it’s mother was trying to get into the chimney to get it. I was told she would try and call one of the workers to remove it. 1:45pm rolls around and by the point I’m annoyed. I called again only to be told how many times I’ve called which to me was unnecessary because if anyone knows how many times I’ve called it would be me. She then tells me she’ll text one of the workers to come remove it. Within 5 minutes he came and removed the bird and it took all of 2 minutes. I don’t understand why this couldn’t have been done from the very beginning seeing that in my eyes this was an urgent matter. I say all that to say no apartment complex is perfect but if you can go elsewhere please do!
The only good thing about this place is the maintenance staff. They get 5/5 from me. I don’t particularly enjoy living here, my apartment gets water in it every time it rains (despite having brought this up to the staff), but it’s close to my job and relatively affordable. The leasing office attitude is absolutely atrocious and incredibly rude. Long story short: after waiting a month to send me my new lease after I requested it, they did not tell me the renewal offer would expire so I ended up with a second renewal offer, which was a shorter lease at a higher rate. When I tried to speak with the leasing manager to resolve the issue, I was met with “I shouldn’t even be at work right now” (this was at 4:45, the office closes at 6) and that she had “no interest in going back and forth with me about this”. I asked if there was a supervisor of hers that I could speak with about the issue and she said “No there absolutely is not, I am the leasing manager here.” However, at the end of the conversation, she stated she would speak to the owners and see if there was anything she could do, and would get back to me the following morning. I never received a response from her, despite calling several times. So basically lots of excuses, now my only option is to sign a shorter lease at a higher rate and the rate will go up again at the end of that 6 months. Oh but at least I get a courtesy carpet cleaning for renewing.
I have lived here 4 months and I cannot wait for my lease term to end! It started bad the day I moved in and as a professional community manager (at a different location) I should have paid more attention , however I was expecting the same treatment that I myself and my team give to all prospective residents at any other property I've worked and lived. NO NOT HERE AT BRIDGES! I was very disappointed the day of move in that the office person I had been dealing with did not walk with me to my apartment she simply handed me the keys and said " have fun moving ". As soon as I pulled up to the apartment building I realized I was not moving to the same apartment she had shown me the previous Saturday, so I walk in and was struck by this horrible stingy smelling like mold and pet urine, I walk in the kitchen and realize that I just moved into a handicap unit, by the way neither myself or my husband are handicap, kitchen cabinets are all smaller do not reach the floor, guest bath has a handicap sink without vanity, grab bars are installed coming into shower, also a long one (that I took out myself) was behind bathroom door all the way to toilet . The linen closet does not stay closed, there was a big hole between the tub and floor ( I also fixed it myself) the caulking was nasty dirty full of mold. The carpet had pet stains and YES everyday more stains appear . The windows have mold growing on the top. The master bath was awful , the sink was not draining and nasty stuff was coming up, so I took a coat hanger and pulled up huge amounts of hair and other nasty stuff while I was vomiting at the same time . There is so much more but I probably don't have enough space to write it all. I have sent pictures to corporate office (that was a waist of my time) I had an appointment with the property manager to come and look at my apartment, that was a no show. I offered to give them a 60 day notice to vacate without having to pay a lease break due to all these issues (I know the management company I am currently working for would do it for any of our residents with these issues ) but unfortunately here at Bridges I was told that I had to give the 60 days notice plus pay over $2,000.00 to break the lease. Oh did I forget to mention the bridge leading up to my apartment that was about to collapse and I tripped on it, thank God my husband held on to my arm and it took them more than one week to repair it after I reported it.
I had had regular an ongoing issues that have been ignored by the office staff. I'm tired of reaching out to the property managers without any positive outcomes. We regularly receive false or misleading information from the office staff, but when we express our concerns, we get treated like we're overreacting. High staff turnover results in me talking about the same issues over and over because nothing ever gets done.
My wife and I lived her for a year and we did not have a great experience. We had snakes living right outside our apartment window and the staff did not seem to care. The lady at the front desk said "oh its summer time, nothing we can do." We didn't want them killed (black snacks), just moved. We had cockroaches constantly, and many maintenance issues. The maintenance staff was really nice to work with, but when you smell gas and the gas man says "oh it looks like the guy who installed this line didn't have experience and used the wrong tape" you wonder how safe the gas lines actually are. The pool was nice and they did a lot of work to make the outside look good. What put it over the top though, was when I went to the office on the first of the month to pay rent. I told them that I had not received a bill yet. I was told, the water bills were running late and that I did not have to pay rent until I got my bill in a few days. On the 5th, I had a note on the door with a threat to evict. I also was told I had to pay a $50 late fee. The guy who told me I didn't have to pay until the bill came lied to his manager when i came to explain why I hadn't paid yet. Good luck keeping tenants if you keep doing things like this.
Have not had a pleasant stay. Several maintenance issues that have yet to be resolved, my apartment was broken into (zero security measures here), and the management does not appear to care about anything but your money
