Scio dates back to 1835, but the reason behind the name is a mystery. The early township records were destroyed in a fire, so the reasons the name was chosen remain a mystery. Some believe it is named for the Greek island of Chios -- the town was apparently named shortly after the US established diplomatic relations with Greece after their War of Independence, which ended in 1830. However it was named, Scio is one of the largest towns in the county and is situated west of Ann Arbor. Its location along the Huron River makes Scio a popular destination, offering beautiful riverfront parks.
Apartments in Ann Arbor Scio provide easy access to downtown and the University of Michigan. This neighborhood offers two top-rated school systems -- Ann Arbor and Dexter. Dexter-Huron Metropark, a wooded, 122-acre park, features picnic areas, a playground, ball fields, fishing, and a canoe launch.

Property Ratings at The Haven of Ann Arbor
I have lived in 4 apartment communities before this one and this is definitely my favorite. Besides the great location with access to so many parks and the lovely pounds within the community, this has also been the most helpful maintenance team I have ever seen. Since I have lived here they have replaced my central air, furnace, dish washer, toilet, sink, and window blinds at no extra cost to me. If my patio flooded, they added an extender to the gutter and dug a trench for drain off. Now, you might think oh that's bad they had to replace so many things. No, they were original and their life span was up. I have lived in communities where maintenance does not replace what needs fixing. I've had leaking roofs, dying furnaces, and horrible plumbing before and every time I called maintenance they came out eventually, looked at it, and left a note saying "it was "inspected" without actually doing anything. At the Haven they take action. If it needs fixing, it gets fixed. That in itself is at least 3 stars on its own. The community itself has had many updates to the units, the club house, the pool, and the outside exterior of every apartment. Yet at the same time, long term residents are receiving rent increase of $30-$50 a year. This is the best I have seen in Ann Arbor. I've lived in places where the only change the community made in a year was repaint the laundry room and they didn't replace any of the broken dryers. Yet every year they increase rent by $100 or more with no improvements in value. Not true at the Haven. They value keeping you here. There focus is not just getting new enters to move in. I applaud the Haven for being such good sports. If they were able to rate some of the residents that live here they would give them 1 star. Too many people in this community think it is okay to ditch a couch, mattress, or whatever junk they decide they don't want by the recycle bin by the road. Take what you don't want to Good Will or put it in the large dumper at the back of the community. If your thinking of moving here, walk around the community. Visit the neighboring parks and compare the value of what your getting to other communities in Ann Arbor. You will see the great value this place has to over. Any 1 star review is a big red flag. Being angry about 1 or 2 things that happened does not make it right to give others the false perception about a place overall.

Thank you for the fantastic review! We appreciate you taking the time. _Lindsay Yopp, Property Manager
We have been living in the Haven for six months we strongly do not recommend! Poor infrastructure Poor customer service Outrageous fees for pets!!! If you consider to adopt one in midterm lease be aware you would pay full fees in spite of the verbally promises !!! Very old and dysfunctional washer and dryer Please reconsider!

Thank you for your review and for speaking to me last week. Unfortunately, we asses the same fees for every resident due to fair housing. We would love the opportunity to make you a happy resident again! --Lindsay Yopp, Property Manager
I have a renovated (R2) apartment on the second floor in the middle of the complex, away from the highway. Granite countertops, nice bathroom, painted in neutral colors throughout. Although I can hear some traffic, it is not disruptive in any way. I work from home and can easily leave the windows open while on calls. I think the renovations are very good for an apartment and the renovated pool/fitness area also make this place worth the rent. It does seem the office people are overwhelmed but they do their best. As for maintenance, everything I requested upon move-in was addressed within the first week, including installation of a new window (which I did not think an apartment complex would do). Alex is very helpful in this regard. I don't like the $25 extra/month charge for the trash butler service but assume they force this into the rent rather than have dumpsters everywhere, which I can't say is a bad idea. If you like to walk/run/bike/kayak, the location can't be beat. Bottom line: if you are looking for a nice, quiet place to live that is not near downtown or undergraduates, this is the place. If you are looking for cheap rent or somewhere to party, this is not the place. I hope that helps!

Thank you for your review! Our granite renovations are awesome, we love that you can comfortably work from home! We appreciate your feedback, and hope you are happy at The Haven for years to come. --Lindsay Yopp, Property Manager
Their charges are very expensive. They started this unnecessary service called Valet Trash where someone comes to pick trash from your doorstep. There is no way to opt out from this service, even if your apartment is a yard away from the dumpster. That's a whole $25. The additional charges that they add to the monthly bill is ridiculous. There is no reasonable justification for their charges. They market themselves as premium apartments, however maintenance is not even responsive. I called maintanence to fix the gas coil and oven and they didn't turn up for two months. I had to call every week to remind them. Hopeless management! Please live elsewhere if you care about your money because you will lose a lot of money if you live here.
The complex is quiet and safe. The renters are all friendly. The dog park is great (though often muddy, fences don't extend down to ground level for smaller dogs, and drinking fountains leak). The office staff is friendly but not always able to answer my questions- they seem overwhelmed and overworked. It is still a construction zone, big time. Large boxes and wood piles take up parking spaces. The gym was supposed to open today and is probably 10% done- floors aren't even installed. The "upgraded" laundry facility was chopped in half, there is no trash can, half the washers/dryers as before, and the cheap floor is already peeling up in multiple places. The outside trash cans are rarely emptied. Electrical boxes hang open with tangled, rusty, and peeling wires. Communication with the office is ZERO. Few updates are provided on renovations. My point: The "Haven" portrays a beautiful image online and to those walking to the office for a visit, but there are major issues they try to hide. I feel I am paying an extremely high fee each month to go without amenities I signed on for that are currently under construction.
I'm sure when they are finished overhauling the entire property The Haven will be a beautiful place to live. And hopefully by then the office staff will learn to share their smiles with current residents instead of reserving those just for potential residents (as of now, current residents receive a lovely eye roll and a short, rude response to most questions/concerns - they have even gone so far as to post signs that say "POOL'S CLOSED, DON'T ASK ABOUT THE POOL!" - sorry for wondering when I will be able to use the amenities I pay for). But for the next year/foreseeable future, I would not recommend this property unless you really love the sound of construction at 7:45am six days a week, the thrill of watching workmen perform crazy acrobatics on completely unsafe scaffolding, and the dazzling sight of fresh nails scattered about your front porch and parking area each morning. Best of luck in finding your new apartment! We'll be starting that same journey very soon.
We haven't had one community newsletter... We used to get monthly newsletters informing us about things happening in the community. Nothing happens in this community anymore. No events, no ways to meet new people. They also tore up our pool... right before summer! I wouldn't recommend moving in here unless they cut a deal on rent, they're renovating a lot right now but that means we can't use anything and you won't be able to use anything for months. The new property manager doesn't seem to have time to talk to residents; she's always trying to do something else.

I've lived here for almost a year now. I currently live in a studio, which has been perfect for one person. It feels spacious with a nice view, though a little dark. I plan on renewing and moving to a 1 or 2 bedroom with my fiance. The 2nd floor balconies are lovely. --Maintenance is pretty fast, but I like to be here when they come by otherwise they often don't fix the problem completely. --All but one office person is new as of one month ago. New rules, pricing, and fees. --The pool is lovely: the new owners are re-doing it now. It won't be open until Memorial Day. --There is going to be a lot of construction in the next year as the new owners are completely re-doing the clubhouse (fitness center, hot tub, office, outdoor area), and there is new construction across the street. I'm a bit worried about the noise. --The renters in this community are quiet and friendly. Lots of people walking throughout the day with their dogs.
We lived here for a year (under Village Green) and renewed our lease only to find out the property had been purchased by Marquette Management. So far we are disappointed with new management - we hope to be able to update this review in the future. Be warned when reading previous reviews that it was under different management.
This complex is pretty quiet with a great location. I've lived here for one year and my lease is renewed for a second year. The maintenance has been pretty good and fast any time that I have had issues in my unit. Lots of great parks close by to walk around in. The clubhouse is very nice as well. Really glad that I chose to live here.
Put in a work order on a Saturday and got the maintenance staff out to repair my broken shower later that day. Excellent, friendly service and I appreciate the extra mile by their staff.

This apartment complex is one of the best that I have lived in. Convenient location to Ann Arbor and right next to the highway as well. Perfect and easy to get any where! Clean spacious apartments. The grounds as gorgeous as well with ponds and fountains and the pool is absolutely wonderful.
