Property Ratings at The Heights
I recently concluded my stay at The Heights Apartment Complex in Puyallup and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the apartment layout was fantastic. I loved how spacious the unit was, with a front entrance directly from the outside, and a sliding glass door that led to a patio. The additional outside storage area was a very convenient feature. The apartment also came with in-unit washing and drying facilities, a dishwasher, and a single bedroom—all of which were aspects I really appreciated. However, there were several downsides that significantly impacted my overall satisfaction. The office staff was particularly disappointing. There was only one person working the office, and she was frequently unavailable. The office hours were inconvenient, closing right at 5 PM and not being open on weekends, which made it difficult for those of us who work standard hours. The maintenance team was also unfriendly and charged for every service, even something as simple as helping to move an item to the trash, adding unnecessary service fees. Another issue was their reluctance to renew leases, contrary to what I was initially told when I moved in. Despite being pet-friendly, their pet policy was very strict, with numerous restrictions on where pets could be. When my lease wasn't renewed, I noticed many residents were being asked to leave, which led me to believe they were remodeling to increase the rent prices. Mail and package delivery were also problematic. While outdoor mailboxes were accessible anytime, packages from carriers like USPS, UPS, or FedEx were placed in a secure lockbox within the office. If you needed to retrieve a package after office hours, you were out of luck. Additionally, the pool was rarely open and, if it was, it remained open only for a brief period before closing again for maintenance. The property layout was not handicap accessible, with stairs everywhere and inadequate ramp access for other units. To top it off, parking was an additional expense. Overall, my time at The Heights Apartments was marked by a great living space overshadowed by subpar management and numerous logistical inconveniences.
The property itself is beautiful. I loved my apartment and the space it provided. When I moved in 3.5 years ago, the previous management company was lovely and responsive. When Targa took over, everything changed. There was no notification about the change to begin with. I walked into the office one day and Targa had taken over. Not much was different at first, and I was happy to sign my lease for a second year. However, midway through my lease cycle, I received a formal notice of payment due on my door with the clear threat of eviction for something that I was not informed of before hand. I was suddenly being charged more for utilities, which was not told to me at the time of signing so I could further adjust my budget. I received several of these intimidating notifications for absolutely no reason, when a quick phone call would have been much more welcoming. I paid everything on time, however I continued to be charged for random things in the middle of my lease cycle, including the change of my assigned parking spot needing to be paid for each month. It was disappointing and frustrating to have to adjust my budget so much. Also, when I would call the office to ask a question or for assistance, for example when I started getting mail for someone else, I wanted to be sure that these weren’t new tenants to the complex and just had the wrong building number, but I never got a response. The phone number goes to the main Targa line, for several complexes. The office is closed randomly and various times and can make it difficult to access your packages. I do not recommend The Heights OR any of Targa’s properties.
I’ve lived here for a year and half and I love the fact that it is quiet. The management is kind, professional and caring.
The staff was so helpful, they moved in me right away. I was able to get my approval really fast. They communicated with me very well, and answered all my questions! This place has really good service! Customer service mean a lot to me, and they gave me the best!
The prices are great on 2 Bedrooms, they are so spacious and the layouts are so nice! I love the high ceilings and the tremendous amount of closet space. I love the location, its so close to shopping and everything I need. The Staff is friendly and always responsive! Move here!!
I love living here, its so quiet and parkin is great, the staff is always so helpful. The community is clean, and the landscaping is beautiful. Great location, so easy to get anywhere!
Management and maintenance are always friendly and courteous! They’re great! I’m so glad Targa allows pets and accommodates us with plenty of pet stations to keep the property clean!
We recently moved in to The Heights (this July) and the process couldn’t have been better with the help of the front desk associate, Alex. After touring several, this one showed a level of excellence that was missing from others. The community is clean, kind, and in a prime location in Puyallup. We are so appreciative to have found this apartment complex.
These people are one of the worst kind of property management in all the land! They hire people to mislead you on a constant basis. Basically they do not follow the rules of treating people the way you want to be treated! Don't believe their follow up comments below since it's a lie whatever they say! Absolutely living through a nightmare the entire time it got switch to Targa Real Estate. Save yourself the pain and look elsewhere! You will be sorry if you don't!

First, we would like to acknowledge that we do hear you. We regret to hear that your experience with us has been less than satisfactory. Despite your experience or perception, your feedback does indeed matter to us and we thank you for allowing us to evaluate our performance and make changes that will only improve our residents experience. We would like to point out that we made a change in management a few months ago. Alex has and is doing a wonderful job at The Heights and is a highly valued member of our management team. If you have any issues please reach out to him at the onsite office by calling 253-445-4999. We would like to attempt to find you a solution if possible to help restore your faith in our services. If you are up for further discussing your experience in detail our corporate office would love to hear from you. You can reach out to us by emailing us at Targa@targarealestate.com. We thank you for your time and business. We hope to hear from you soon. Have a wonderful day.
Don't believe anything you've read review wise if it is dated before May 2018. The Heights was sold and Targa Real Estate manages it, where before it was a single owner who employed 2 office girls and a maintenance man. Now there is one woman who works(that's using the term loosely) in the offce from 8-5:00 Monday thru Friday. The office is closed on Saturdays so if you're like most of us who work, good luck trying to get packages from the office or pay your rent. They took away the night drop box, so you are forced to pay online and pay an additional fee. Before it was free. Don't believe the air conditioning it says there is. The only air conditioning is in the office. No car wash station anymore either. They have raised the rents substantially and no longer give military or senior citizen discounts. There was no pet rent, but now it is $25 per pet per month. They gouge you wherever they can. Water used to be included in the rent, but now that is no longer either. Service of any kind from the Targa lady is a joke. We are surprised she's even employed. Nothing gets resolved. Don't expect to get your deposit back in the 21 days like you're supposed to. She is incompetent to say the least. The friendly and knowledgeable girls were fired. Since Targa took over things have gone downhill fast! If you're looking for friendly service, don't look here!

First we would like to thank you for taking the time to leave this review, we value all feedback and utilize it as a resource to help us improve our services. We would like to touch on a few of the points made in your feedback. The drop box removal is for security purposes. The top reason for its removal is to eliminate the risk of it being broken into and payment being stolen. The online payment service offered through ActiveBuilding does come with a service charge, depending on the payment method used for example the echeck method service charge is under $2. Rent increases can be a frustrating topic for renters. There are a lot of factors that are considered when raising rents including property taxes, average rent in the area, building class, amenities, supply and demand, etc. In addition, more common now than not, utilities (water, sewer, trash) are allocated to be paid by resident based on the actual tenant usage rather than increasing rent pricing overall to keep up with the increased expenses. We have also introduced a new property manager to The Heights. Alex is a valued member of our management team and we are confident in his ability to provide exceptional service. Again we thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We hope some of the information provided today offers some clarity. If you are ever in need of anything at all please do not hesitate to reach out to Alex at the on-site office by calling 253-445-4999 or email the corporate office at Targa@targarealestate.com. We hope you have a wonderful day. Kind Regards, Customer Service Support Team
Disregard all previous reviews . BEWARE the new management is targa. Targa has horrible reviews. They manage the property now and let all the leasing staff who had been there for years go but kept the maintenance men stay there. Debbie is very snarky, unreliable, and unprofessional. I had to call every few days multiple times to get an update on my refund. Needless to say they gave me the wrong amount with basic math lacking to prorate, greedy much? Every phone call I had with Debbie I had to re-explain everything, I also asked for email follow up as to when my checks would be sent out, Never happened. Targa has ruined the heights. I lived here for 4 years and they were great now they are just like every other complex in puyallup.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. All feedback is valued by us and used as a resource to improve our services. We would like to touch on a few points that you have brought to our attention in your review. When an owner purchases a new property, staffing is determined by several factors and dependent on the arrangements made before the building is sold. This is not a decision that is made solely by the new property management company but by many people, owners, the current staff, the old property management company etc. We have introduced a new property manager to The Heights. Alex is a valued member of our property management team and we are very confident in his ability to provide the tenants at The Heights with exceptional service. He has managed several other properties that are with our company and has done a wonderful job building strong tenant relations through his customer service skills. His performance will be a wonderful addition to The Heights. We hope that we were able to resolve your issues with regard to your refund and we apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during that time. If you have any more feedback or if there is anything else we can do for you, please email us at the corporate office at Targa@targarealestate.com. We thank you again for taking the time to leave this review. We hope you have a great day. Kind Regards, Customer Service Support Team
I lived there for many years and LOVED it! The staff was amazing, professional and kind. Then.... it was bought by a new company Targa Real Estate Service - they got rid of all the old staff and just one short month they have turned the place to utter garbage. Deborah the woman is the office is incompetent unprofessional, unreliable and absurd. They couldn’t find my contract or my months of saved credit. They couldn’t remember anything about my situation- which was not complicated- despite me calling time and time again to resolve the error THEY made. Since they couldn’t find my contract or my credit over 300 dollars worth- I requested that they make sure my items were still in my garage ( I moved cross country and use it as storage). Deborah was petty enough to take a picture of the closed garage door, which obviously has no windows, and then email me and say- “I hope this helps you sleep better at night.” In what sane world does a picture of a closed door with no view of the items inside give anyone a peace of mind that the items are still there?!? My sister drove three hours round trip that night to make sure my things were still there. They always said they would get right back to me- and then NEVER returned my calls and acted shocked when I called to follow up. It has been OVER a month and I have not received one phone call or email from them except for the snide email from Deborah with the useless picture. I just called and she had NO idea what I was calling about and told me she would call me right back. I’m still waiting... Excuses, lies and incompetence is all you will get if you move here.

We want to thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback, we value all feedback and take it as an opportunity to grow and make improvements. We apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your time with us, we will definitely make it a lesson learned for the future. We would like to touch on a few of the points left in your review. The transition period when managing a new building can be a challenge and we definitely can understand a tenants dissatisfaction during this time. We can assure you that Deborah is a valued member of our management team, and while we do not condone the issues presented in your review we do support our managers through the ups and the downs and will always offer assistance and training when needed. We understand that there is a miscommunication about previous staffing at The Heights. When an owner purchases a new property, staffing is determined by several factors and dependent on the arrangements made before the building is sold. This is not a decision that is made solely by the new property management company but by many people, owners, the current staff, the old property management company etc. Again, we thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. This is a great small community to live at. Easy access to the freeway and also close to restaurants, dinning, grocery stores and also the South Hill Mall. Great office staff, outdoor pool, hot tub and also a weight room that is open at 4:30am to 10:00pm. This is a perfect quiet place to live.
The Heights Apartments is a great community close to downtown Puyallup and a short drive to down town Tacoma. It is a quick jump to the freeway and within walking distance of parks, grocery stores and The Fair grounds. The apartments have open floor plans and have been nicely updated. This is a privately owned complex that does not accept WA section 8. I believe this helps to keep the complex quite and safe. I have lived in many other apartments and I recommend The Heights as my number one choice to anyone.
