Old Town sits across from Washington DC, along the Potomac River in Alexandria. Founded in 1749, the old charm of the neighborhood lives on in converted Colonial-era buildings which now house modern conveniences. Along Old Town’s cobblestone streets, you’ll discover an array of independent boutiques, artisan shops, wine bars, and farm-to-fork restaurants.
The farmers market in Market Square is your place for fresh cut flowers, hand-dipped candles, and made-from-scratch baked goods. The plaza is more than 250 years old - George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate was a regular vendor back in the day!
King Street is not only dotted with eateries and shops, but also nightlife and live jazz! The iconic Gadsby’s Tavern on North Royal Street fed many early presidents and continues to run as a restaurant - but also as a museum! King Street and Waterfront Parks provide residents recreational and boating opportunities along the river.

Property Ratings at The Heritage at Old Town
Pros: - Location, obviously: It is absolutely fantastic living in Old Town, blocks away from everything. Location is definitely what brought me here and is the only thing keeping me from not ending my lease early. It's perfect. - Maintenance: folks are some of the nicest I've ever met and they do an amazing job. - Residents: for the most part, all the residents I've come across seem friendly Cons: - Staff/Management: they are extremely hard to get ahold of and don't follow through. In person, they are sometimes nice and friendly (depending on the day, temperature, and humidity) and sometimes they act like they don't care, and I believe that they really could care less about their jobs. - Cockroaches: believe the hype, they are here and they are plentiful. After reading other reviews, I thought "no way"...YES WAY - this place is absolutely infested. I've had them come and "spray" multiple times and even invested in some high quality poisoning and nothing has worked (even with keeping my apartment spotless) - Noise: it's a two-way street. In my bedroom I can't hear a peep and it's probably the quietest bedroom I've ever had. In my living room I can hear everything my neighbor says (but my neighbor is also extremely loud). I cannot hear the residents above me, and the floor is very sturdy so I doubt the residents below can hear me, so that's a plus. - Gym: It's okay...however the staff is always using it after the office closes as they do group workouts with their trainer....I stopped going because of this - way too small for all of that. - Parking: Again in Old Town means limited parking. Do yourself a favor if you live anywhere in Old Town and get yourself a permit for your district so you can park anywhere in your district and ignore the street sign limitations - it would have been nice if the staff knew a lick about this, but I had to do my own research - Electric bill: It's high - I'm in a 1 bedroom and am not a home body, yet my bill for the first couple months was about $150. This is a direct result of the decentralized AC units - they are old and inefficient. This past month, I left the AC units off 90% of the time, and my bill went down to $80 - still an insane amount for less than 600 square feet. You pay what you get for. The only saving grace of this place is the maintenance staff and the location. Everything else warrants paying a little extra to get the service, amenities, and cockroach-free environment you deserve....
I was forced to move here because I was still in law school and affordability was very important to me BUT never again will I take the least expensive option. The old adage is true "you get what you pay for". The original leasing staff were helpful and polite-- they have since been replaced with rude and unresponsive individuals who treat you, the residents, like trash. when I attempted to have a face-to-face conversation with an assistant manager she tried to hide from me in the back room. I being a professional am not used to such childish behavior. The day before I took my bar exam I suffered from an immense amount of some 'mysterious' bug bites that I got while laying down on my carpet. Still to this day three months later our bug problem has not been resolved and now we have anywhere from 5 to 15 roaches filling our small apartment daily. Furthermore, they are SO desperate or money due to the lack of tenants they refuse to let you out of our lease so they can properly fumigate. So upsetting for the next residents-- that is of course only if anyone is duped into moving in! Don't be duped, you can still enjoy the lovely Old Town neighborhood but from a bug free apartment :)
It is about $2,000 less than the nice places around here, but my 2nd bedroom clocks at 88' and my 1st at 85'. The living room is a cool 78' - with spot cooler. It took an outside HVAC company to tell them that the A/C wasn't working and to put in a spot cooler. From my neighbors, they all gave up. They stay outside until it cools down. Emails/calls are sporadic at best. If I had the money, I'd move tomorrow.
