As Westchester County's oldest settlement, the city of Rye can trace its history back to 1660. The settlement was named for Rye, England in 1665 as part of Connecticut. In 1683, the town was ceded to New York against the settler's wishes as a gift from King Charles II to his brother, the Duke of York. The settlers rebelled and tried to rejoin Connecticut, but it was officially established as part of New York by royal decree. Today, this beautiful community is one of the nation's most expensive areas to purchase real estate with the average home selling for more than $2 million.
Rye still retains its historical charm in its architecture, stone walls, and shady narrow lanes. Rye is a harbor town, stretched along the Long Island Sound and offering one of the state's prettiest beaches -- Rye Town Park and Beach. With its Spanish-style buildings dating to around 1907, this historic park and public beach features a bath house, picnic shelters, and a restaurant dating to 1910.

Property Ratings at The Highlands at Rye
I am so happy with my new apartment. I can walk anywhere and having metro north across the street makes my commute so simple. The Super is so helpful and the leasing team was easy to deal with. Best choice.
The Highlands Rye is a perfect blend of community and convenience. Its so close to the train station and a bunch of my favorite restaurants/stores in downtown Rye. Also, everyone I've met that lives in the building has been super nice and approachable which has been different from some of the other places I've lived previously. On top of that management and the maintenance on site has always fixed my issues whenever I asked and have made me feel welcome in the apartment community.
The super and facilities team on site are wonderful and responsive. The overarching management company is AWFUL! They are not interested in truly fixing anything and are unresponsive. This is the most cheap and unprofessional experience I’ve ever had. It’s unfortunate because the location is great.

I lived in the Garden (basement section) of 131 Purchase, my husband and I lost everything due to Ida, this building is a MAJOR FLOOD ZONE, of course the landlord is not required to disclose this information including their flooding back in 2011. If we had known we would have never rented. This caused a huge PTSD for me especially while being pregnant and have to experienced such traumatic event. We had to evacuate late at night while the Super ran around knocking on peoples door to leave now! The landlord did not care and did not want to be liable. I called and wrote emails and never got a response. I only made sure not to be charged for the month of September because IDA happened on the 1st. Please beware and do not rent!
Hurricane ida happened when I lived here . Lost everything , landlord did not care about their tenants . Flood zone !! They take forever to respond for services . Worst place I’ve ever lived . The garden units should be banned !! A nightmare . Do not rent here !!!! I had mold in my unit , took forever to get it taken care of . Landlord won’t respond to my emails to help me get insurance reimbursed after the flood .
I lived in a garden terrace here during hurricane ida and it is a major flood zone. Stay away and beware!! I lost everything including my car. The flooding around this area is no joke. This apartment complex has already been flooded 2x, both times the garden apartments were completely demolished. If you’re going to live here, make sure to get flood insurance NOT just renters insurance.
This building is situated in a major flood zone. Ask then what occurred during hurricane Ida and how tenants that lost everything in the basement and first floor had to argue them down to be released from our lease. The rent increases are unreal…$200 plus!
We have lived here for several years and made it a home. The neighbors are quiet and friendly, and the landscaping is very nice. The on site gym is great to have and the maintenance staff is on top of all requests, and always happy to assist. The location makes this the perfect place- close to train, walk to town, schools, parks, markets etc. we are fortunate to have found this home in such a wonderful city.
I have lived here for several years and would recommend this apartment community to anyone looking for a temporary place/stepping stone while getting settled (I landed here after relocating for my job). The location is superb—it’s near local parking, downtown shops and restaurants, and perhaps most importantly the train (making for a commute to GC easy). While people mostly keep to themselves I’ve never encountered an unfriendly neighbor. The grounds are well kept even in the winter and seasonally updated, which around the holidays makes for a lovely touch. Over the years, the staff has rotated, but they’ve always been very responsive. The new Sup is fantastic!
