Known as Wisconsin’s Maritime Capital, Manitowoc is located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Manitowoc River. Manitowoc celebrates its shipbuilding history with the largest maritime museum on the Great Lakes, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, which highlights the city’s submarine construction efforts for World War II. Manitowoc is also the home port of the largest car ferry of the Great Lakes, transporting cars and passengers to and from Ludington, Michigan.
Manitowoc’s historic downtown area includes a range of restaurants, cafes, shops, and entertainment venues. Nearby, residents and visitors can explore the Home of the Great Spirit’s attractions such as the Rahr West Art Museum and Mansion, Pinecrest Historical Village, the Sputnik Crash Site, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Silver Creek Park. Several destinations within three hours’ driving distance of Manitowoc include Green Bay, Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago.

Property Ratings at The Historic Schuette Building Apartments
Was the first to move in here and up to this point the living experience has been wonderful! The renovated historic building has beautiful architecture that you can tell they took great care to preserve while making the new apartment homes feel luxurious and modern. Whether watching the sunsets over the city of Manitowoc from the roof-top deck or taking in the downtown from the expansive windows, the city views could not be better! While there have been a few kinks with the new apartments, I believe that is to be expected with any new building, especially one that had to be restored from nothing. And any and all problems I encountered were promptly handled by Julie at Doneff, who has done an excellent job being helpful and readily available as a manager. The one minor issue I have is because of the nature of the hallways, with their high ceilings and lack of carpeting, the sound proofing is not the best when it comes to noises from within the hallways. Whereas the sound proofing of the apartments themselves seems to be excellent. Overall, I would highly recommend living here. The fellow tenants are all kind and well mannered, the staff I have encountered have all been wonderful, and the features offered by the building and location within Manitowoc are totally unique. I cannot help but respect the Doneff Companies for undertaking the massive project of restoring a downtown building like this and turning it into a beautiful and enjoyable place to live!
