With its false-front architecture and period lighting, Downtown La Crosse struts its Old West stuff, overflowing with antique stores, art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and theaters. Downtown La Crosse is situated near two universities and a college: the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Viterbo University, and Western Technical College. As a result, Downtown La Crosse has a fun side: it's walkable, bicycle-friendly, and offers events like the Friday night Farmer's Market at Cameron Park and a pub crawl on two wheels -- the Beer by Bike Brigade.
Whether it's relaxing by the river or exploring the downtown shops, Downtown La Crosse is a great place to live. Relax and listen to live music at the Bodega Brew Pub or attend the Between the Bluffs Beer, Wine, and Cheese Festival in April. Catch a performance at the Pump House Regional Arts Center or admire the outdoor art throughout downtown: Ribbon V, Family, Fledgling, A Simpler Time, and Harmony and Peace.

Property Ratings at The Hive
The new management has been horrible to me and every other person I have spoken with in the building. The furniture is cheap and the walls are thin. Any concerns brought up are shut down with hostility. Not a good place for students
This is my second year at The Hive, and I couldn't ask for a better living situation. As a student, finding an affordable place to live is a difficult and annoying task. The Hive is not only affordable, but it's very convenient. The Hive is fully furnished, has off street parking, and is even located above a gym that residents have access to. If you're looking for a modern, convenient, and safe place to live then The Hive is your best option.
I have lived in The Hive for about 6 months and it is awesome! It has several great perks for students such as free cable and Internet (cable has dvr which is amazing), washer and dryer in the unit, parking, it comes furnished, and there is a gym located right downstairs! It's also located within walking distance of downtown, western, and UW-L! All of the leases are individual so you only pay for your room. The landlord hs you fill out a roommate match form when you move in and then assigns you accordingly, which has always turned out great for me! The only downside is it gets a bit loud at times, but that's to be expected when you live in a college neighborhood. Overall it is a great place for a great price! Highly recommend it!
