As its name implies, Medical Center South is located directly south of the Texas Medical Center, which is home to Houston’s major healthcare facilities and medical schools. The neighborhood is also locally known as the Astrodome since the Houston Astrodome dominated the neighborhood. NRG Arena, NRG Stadium, and NRG Center are also located in the neighborhood so living here will give you easy access to rodeos, football games, concerts, and more. Although the area was initially created for the Astrodome, it has since changed drastically. Along with medical facilities, Medical Center South is laden with restaurants, stores, and an abundance of housing options. Rental options include large single-family houses, luxury condos, and modern apartments and townhomes. Attracting even more renters, Medical Center South is also convenient to Downtown Houston, Midtown, and Hermann Park.

Property Ratings at The Huxley at Medical Center
I recently had a terrible experience with the management team at a The Huxley at Medical Center. The maintenance work was incredibly poor and seemed to be done haphazardly. What's worse is that when I brought this to the attention of the manager, they refused to admit that there was anything wrong with the work. It was as if they were completely blind to the shoddy workmanship. To make matters even worse, the manager was constantly lying about various things, which only added to the frustration and disappointment I was feeling. Overall, I would strongly advise anyone looking for a well-managed establishment to steer clear of this particular one.

I've lived at The Huxley since 2007 and have experienced numerous management teams. The new management team is by far the best I've ever experienced. A few months ago, I was hospitalized and almost lost my life. I'm use to going into the office to say hi to my boo Charde. When she found out I was in the hospital, she made it an effort to come see me, even if I wasn't awake. She would sing to me and pray over me. She really cares about her residents. She was even able to locate my sister on fakebook since I didn't have an emergency contact on file. My doctor informed me that I needed to move my apt to the 1st floor. Charde assisted with my new application, got my documents uploaded and I was approved. I'm super excited to be moving into my new apartment. Thank you Charde for everything. (Emma Milton, Mona's sister assisted her in writing this review).

At first I really enjoyed living at these apartments but my first red flag was seeing roaches in the kitchen area. My second red flag was seeing a gang of feral cats and the fleas that festered on their bodies and the property. And then should you walk past the grass, fleas would then bother you. My final red flag has been the towing situation.

Numerous extra fees on top of your rent they don't tell you about. Move somewhere nicer if you can. It's a lot of trash as well and don't expect maintenance to fix anything anytime soon. I'm still waiting from June. And the the staff that works in the office never know anything.
Under no circumstances should you even consider moving here. Now, don’t get me wrong, the apartments are actually not too bad, but the management is the absolute worst that I have ever dealt with in my life. There’s been a pothole that absolutely destroyed my tire, and I told management about it which they didn’t really care about. It took them 6 months to get the pothole filled, so I can guess that I wasn’t the only one that had their tire blown. Also they tow your car here without any thought or regard to the owner, management doesn’t care by any means that you have to pay over 200 dollars to get it out of the impound lot. The exit gate for the apartment complex has also been broken for over 2 months with no one even attempting to get it fixed so literally anyone could drive their car in and park wherever they want. I’ve also seen several drug deals happen in the front of the apartment complex in the middle of the street. The noise here is absolutely unbearable, so I guess if you don’t like to sleep then by all means move right on in. Save your money and live literally anywhere else, it’s not worth it.
Rooms have awesome amenities. Nice laid back spot. Ben was very helpful as always! ??
I've lived here for 2 and a half months. To start, there are many potholes driving through the apartment complex. The next big issue they have is with electricity or water. They cut the water off frequently without notice. I went 4 days without any hot water and received no communication AT ALL from management. I even called their "emergency maintenance" line where I only got through 1 out of the 6 times I called. The one time someone answered, the guy said the issue would be fixed in an hour, however, it was not fixed till 2 days later. Another issue is that the apartments have roaches. The first day I moved in, there were roaches in the apartment. They do provide pest control which has subsided the issue for now. For the interior, the bottom of my counters are completely chipped and wood flakes come off from them. There are many small holes and gaps in the baseboards and between cabinets for bugs to come through. The bathroom counter is extremely low like it was made for a toddler. The toilet is also very low and mine is slanted because the floors are not even. In regards to thecommunity and safety, the area is not very safe but you get what you pay for. I haven't had problems in regards to my safety or my vehicle, but I have heard gunshots on multiple occasions. There are loud neighbors around me that have kept me up at night several times. If you move here, make sure you get them to explain your monthly charges to you clearly because 2 months after you move in they will throw in surprise charges. I paid the full amounts for pest control and trash for July, August, and September. Now for October, they billed me new charges for pest control and trash saying I have to pay for July 19-August 12 AGAIN. They also stated that the following 2 months after I move out, they will still bill me those charges. The leasing office claims that "that's just the way our company does it." I've never heard of an apartment charging bills TWICE for the first 2 months. It sounds like some bs and something that was never mentioned before I signed my lease. I paid $32.60 TOTAL ($6.60,$16,$16) for those services from July-September but now I am expected to pay that $32 all over again in the coming months. The money is not the issue, but it's about management not being transparent about the monthly charges to their tenants. I am sure that I will have other issues arise with my unit in the coming months. Overall, these apartments are not worth the amount and all the trouble.
I have lived here for three years actually five counting the other apartment I was in. I think the staff in general from the property manager ,assistant manager ,Benjamin Head of leasing . I think they’re all awesome. There is nothing that they would not do for their residence they’re very caring and considerate and passionate about the property they work for and the love of all of the residence. FYI this is not a fake account I am a resident that lives in building two and I love it here. This a great place to live. I was in the business for 10 years previously and I had a great staff as well and these people remind me of the staff that I used to have this is the best place to live when you have a great group of people behind you that’s going to definitely take care of you to the fullest.
I just moved in about 2 months ago & so far the experience has been awesome. The staff is very helpful, the apartments are CLEAN, & I love it! this was my first apartment the and the guidance I received from the staff was very helpful. Thank you to the Team at THE HUXLEY AT THE MEDICAL CENTER!!
I spent a month looking for my first apartment all to myself and I could not be happier with what I found. My price range was restricted, but Ben, the leasing agent who worked with me and the entire management team were beyond helpful and worked with me to find something that worked. It’s been a couple weeks now and I still could not be happier. I feel safe and secure in my apartment and all the appliances are brand new. There is always parking outside my unit and I don’t have to factor in an extra 10 minutes every morning to walk to a garage that filled up at 5pm and drive down from the top floor. Nothing in the area beat the price, value, and management that I’m getting here. I would definitely recommend leasing here.

The apartment is upgraded and reasonably priced. Everyone is talking about the new management , both good and bad. I had good experience. I dealt with Benjamin, and he is an amazing guy, and very helpful. Usually, I don't come across too many helpful people sitting behind the desk in leasing office, but he is exceptional. Constant communication, and doing his best with dates and specials, I am hopeful that this continue even after we move in. Carla was nice too, never met her, but few phone calls, and emails for her was great help.

Don’t let the good reviews fool you guys. Most likely is fake accounts made up from workers. The new manager Carla, has no sense of respect. Talks to people like they’re incompetent. She needs to go back to school and learn basic people skills. Workers at chick fil a treat you better than her rudeself. You will always have to go back to the office and fix random problems/charges they add to your bill. They do not care for your accommodation as long as they get their money. When you come to them with an issue they made, Carla tries to dismiss it and doesn’t even give you a chance to speak or ask questions. As if your in the wrong for asking questions. We are the ones paying for rent and extra fees that you guys keep adding. If you guys are okay with having to go to the office constantly to fix issues or be talked to like your a 4 year old then come and stay here. Me and a few other neighbors are leaving here as soon as our lease ends. This is ridiculous. If this place has any potential to be great, because thats what im assuming you guys are trying to do with all these “new changes” they keep talking about, the manager needs to go or she needs to change her stinky attitude, disrespectful and i hope you read this too Carla.

I currently live here. I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THESES APARTMENTS, recently got new management and everything went down hill. You will wait a month for maintenance to come. There apartments out of date everything with everything. Either somebody getting robbed or somebody car getting broken into every night. There’s “ supposedly “ 24 hour security. But never have I seen him or she. The lease agents will lose your money and back door and put a evacuation on your door. The most unprofessional people ever. Idc how cheap they are DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. APARTMENTS FROM HELL.

If you are willing to discuss any issues you are having, please contact the management office and reference this review. Thanks and have a great day.
To keep it brief, this place is RIDDLED with trash!! Dog poop is ALWAYS on the sidewalks (disgusting) Maintenance literally never fixes anything(it took 6 months to get an air filter replaced)!! Leasing staff= INCOMPETENT. After you move in, you will always get the runaround Parking is TERRIBLE. You'll have better odds winning the lottery than finding a spot close to your apartment. Oh yeah, and the roaches...good luck getting rid of those

When I walked in the office a month ago and saw that Nicole was back I just knew my eyes were playing tricks on me!! But it was really her and I immediately ran to her and hugged her because I just missed her so much!!! Since she has been gone this property has went downhill because she was the one that kept it together! At one point she was running the property by herself and staying in the office until 11pm most nights!! The best thing they couldve done was brought her back!! My work orders are getting done again and things in the office seem smoothe again FINALLY! But I am quite upset that they brought her back as a leasing agent!! She deserves to be manager!! I see her on property every single day but I never see the manager ever!! She is the face of this property everyone only deals with her!! Welcome back sweetie I know things will get better now and I just might renew my lease now!!
My roommate and I have had problems since day 1. We had roaches for the first 3 months. After that, we had mold growing everywhere in the kitchen and dining area. Instead of replacing it then, they just painted over it and low and behold the mold came back with a vengeance. We did not have working hot water for the first 6 months. Our kitchen sink and dish washer some how backs up and we'd come home to water everywhere. Oh and btw is stinks so bad! I could go on for days about the problems we've had here! I've had enough!!! I cannot wait until my lease is up and I can move on. Take my advice and spare yourself the headache! Do not live here!
I moved in August 1st 2015 and I wish I would've asked to look at the unit I was going to move into before I signed the papers. All the "renovations" they had done just covered up all the underlying problems of the apartment. Paint tape wasn't even used to paint ANYTHING. They must've paid $20/apartment to get painted. The cabinet doors weren't replaced, just painted over. The granite look-alike was poorly done. The drawers in the restrooms always fall of of their railings. The buildings quite literally are disgusting. I had a roach infestation from the beginning. My roommate and I have done everything from mopping to putting traps down to fogging the place. They come back. I expected some living on the first floor but this is different. Management is always nice (hence the two stars) but they don't do anything when it comes to problems in the apartment. My my kitchen has flooded twice because of the sink spewing black water. Someone tried to break in while my roommate was home and the police took 34 hours to respond. They broke the window and we had to wait at home to put a police report in so that we wouldn't have to pay for the window repair. I tell everyone looking for apartments to stay AWAY from this place. I'm so excited to be moving out tomorrow. Sorry not sorry.
Enter Bartell Drive, and you are met with an urban feel. Pull through the gates of this fine facility and experience the trash crunching beneath your tires. Now as you aimlessly struggle to find parking among the limited spaces and dimly lit lot, you can rest assured that you will experience an uneasy feeling of angst and worry as you make your way up to your apartment through the dark abyss. Now that you are inside you can relax and wait for maintenance to fix all the problems that are meant to keep you tough as jerky. You see, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I'm definitely living on the edge here at city centre!
I've been residing here for about 6 years now and once we first came to we experienced some issues with burglary and unwanted non residents. Since then the protection has increased, we do have onsite security which is a plus and the apartments have been slightly updated, we were just purchased and renamed not too long ago and according to the Houston boards we received about 2M for much needed renovations though we are still in pre-construction mode, I hope this takes place soon. It does take weeks to get anything fixed that's not major (like air, heat), I've needed new bathroom flooring and a new toilet for about 7 months now, im not sure when I will receive it, if ever. now for the good news, we're located next to everything like, the NRG stadium which makes going to events a PLUS, great restaurants, Super Grocery Marts, and the Medical Center. Overall the apartments are decent for the price, it's not luxury living but it's a home, the location makes it prime if you can't afford to spend 1500 for a luxury apartment in a metropolitan area. It's Home.
Ashley Park Apartments was taken over and renamed The Edge @ City Centre. Sometimes when companies take over apartments changes can be made for the better. However, this time this is not the case. Positive changes: Nicole the leasing agent is awesome. Trying to fix up the area. However, the changes to clean up the area come at a cost. Rent is much higher for not being in that great of an area. Negative changes: New management is not very friendly and in fact sometimes comes across cold. New management does not understand that they are in the customer service business, rather are focused on the task at hand. 2 Negative Personal Experiences: 1. When planning to move we notified the office that there were some damages. We were responsible and let them know, as well as let them know that we would be glad to pay for the repairs needed. 2 months later (don't forget the time frame) we were contacted by a collection agency regarding payment. However, we were NEVER contacted or notified by the new management regarding the expenses. We had believed that our deposit had covered the damage. Don't know about you personally, but credit is a very important thing to individuals in this day and age, and to not respectfully go through proper channels and make sure all attempts to collect payment before going to a collection agency is disrespecful. Don't forget we were never contacted and it was 2 months. 2. The area again is not the best. Therefore, the complex has officers that live at the apartments. We made very good friends with the guards. However, one guard does NOT work there anymore. WHY?? Living on the complex his personal apartment had a mold infestation, the mold got into his lungs and well he is no longer able to work. No one in the complex was ever notified that this could be a potential problem.
The new office is in a trailer because of renovations. But the leasing agents are very nice and friendly, especially Nicole. There are a lot of renovations going on in the complex but they are working fast. This is a great place to stay. Parking is sometimes hectic but it's a huge complex so it will be.. nevertheless it's a good place to stay because everything is close.
