Property Ratings at The Jamestown Apartments
i have left countless of emails and called them several times during business hours in regarding to living here. They never answer the phone nor do they return emails nor phone calls. Most definitely dodged a bullet. If it’s this hard to get in contact with them without me staying here i can only imagine what it’s like for the tenants . I suggest you find somewhere that answers their phone . Don’t move here!
I currently live here and it has been a disaster from day one we moved in and they were holes behind the fridge in the wall on top of that in the utility closet there’s a hole in the ground that maintenance says it’s for drainage which makes no sense to me. Winter is now here and my husband came home to see a rat in the kitchen when we complain about it they finally patched up the wall. This was months after we moved in complaining about the wall. They finally got to it. We also have a bug issue and I’m not talking about water bugs I’m talking about roaches they keep finding their way inside the house more than likely due to the holes in the floor in the closet. We see them less often because of winter time but it’s a major problem. I’m not used to roaches in my house never had this issue in the apartments I was at before. We see lots of spiders and other bugs I’m not familiar with and I think this all has something to do with the woods in the back of the apartments. If you are OK with living with outside bugs coming in this is the apartment for you. The heating and cooling is not effective it gets too warm upstairs and too cold downstairs. Generally the apartments are very old and the foundation is not as good as it should be which leaves gaps between the wall and the ground. When you have gaps like that bugs can hide and multiply and travel all around the apartment without you noticing. I will not be renewing my lease due to all of these reasons. I’m over going to start on the rental staff because it keeps changing. Right now we have a new management and faces. So far they seem very nice. And there is also a lot of construction and no parking. And before the construction started there is very limited parking.
We liked the area. It is secluded off the road and you might even miss it. Close to shopping and not a bad commute to Langley. It backs up to the woods, which is nice (although you may have some bug issues) and the Nolan trail. You can hear your neighbors through the thin walls, but I had quiet neighbors on both sides which was nice. They were good about coming out for the bugs about three times and came to fix things in a timely fashion. I had to leave after a year due to a change in station. We cleaned and made sure everything was in top shape. But then we were charged $75 for not sweeping up the leaves, $25 because the refrigerator was not clean, although we did clean it, $45 for a broken blind. I never used the blinds and had no idea it was even broken. And then $25 for holes in the wall. Don't you put up pictures in an apartment? Aren't you supposed to paint and repair after a tenant leaves? We tried to dispute it with the Tower Management and they said to call Jamestown. Jamestown said you can't dispute it. Oh well, lesson learned. When I come back to Langley I will looks somewhere else because of these nit picky things. So if you do decide to live here, make sure on your walk through you put down every little tiny thing and when you leave make sure every possible thing or they will take your money.
This place can be okay but I don't think it's worth moving here, the management of this place isn't reliable. Is a hit or miss on things. I feel sometimes they lie about how much water you're using, it's just me and my husband who's never really around and one month is $30 bucks to another month is around $80 and you can fight them on it but there's really no telling. You're word against theirs, when you ask proof of water usuage all you get is some spread sheet someone could've made on excel. I know other people in this complex who feel they've been conned about stuff. Overall I'm just glad we are going to be moving out here once our lease is up.
While most of the neighbors are okay, there are a number of issues with this establishment. First, many of the residents in the complex speed through the parking lots, paying little attention to those who have small children. Secondly, although we are allotted one parking spot per unit, there are units here that have three and four vehicles, some of which sit parked for months on end in prime parking spots without being moved. These vehicles, both cars and especially motorcycles, should be obligated to be parked in the assigned spot for the unit, leaving the guest spots open for the incredibly high turn-over that comes from having so many residents in a small area. There have been numerous times that I have had to park in completely different sections of the complex because all of the guest spots were taken. And I have yet to see anything being towed...there are always vehicles parked overnight that have no parking pass nor visitor pass. It has been brought to the attention of the office staff, and the only thing I've seen done about it is a letter that went out to the residents. That is not enough! The rent is quite high for what you get, and the least this place can do is make sure that those who pay rent are able to park close to where they live.
It has been terrible since week one, and here we are a year later and our lease finally coming to an end. Between the non friendly neighbors and walls/floors being so thin, you can hear a pin drop & the staff caring less about trying to make you feel at home. I would never reccomend this apartment to anyone. It's to much money for what the place actually in tells. I moved here from another state and my first experience living in this area was made terrible by JAMESTOWN APARTMENTS! Go somewhere else, you will regret it!
Jamestown Apartments is a quiet community located in Newport News, VA. The community itself has a colonial townhome style and offers 1-3 bedroom apartments. The staff is nice and they seem to be really involved with the residents. The apartments however are much older than they try to make them appear. There have been many updates made but the structures are very old. The 2nd floor creaked loudly everywhere you walk and also have poor heating/air circulation. The floors are parquet but need work. Some of the apartments have nice features such as exposed brick walls and almost all of them have fenced nice patio areas in the back. If the apartments had just a bit more work done to them, I believe this would be a top notch community.
The company falsley advertises this complex as luxury, but it is most definitely not. I have had numerous plumbing problems that resulted in damage to personal items. Sliding closet doors that never stay on the tracks. You can see where there was previous damage done to doors and the wall that were patched up by amateurs. There is only one qualified maintenance person on staff and she is capable, but is woefully under staffed. It takes forever to get anything done .I could go on,but I'll just get angry.
I lived in Jamestown for a year. Pros: super safe and usually quiet neighborhood, very close to Nolan Trail, friendly people for the most part, VERY pet friendly, clean amenities, monthly community events. Cons: only 1 parking spot per unit (towing definitely enforced), needed maintenance more than I would've liked (though they did usually respond fairly quickly) for things like drainage and appliance issues (had minor flooding several times due to backed up drains), and the staff, esp. manager, very friendly, but not as professional as I feel she should be at times, esp. in their monthly newsletter, but overall a pleasant experience, moved because we bought a house, not because we had to get out of there
