The Julien

I have lived at The Julien for almost 2 years and it has personally been a great experience! Although we have had management changes, any work orders submitted have all been completed in a timely manner. The front desk has always been helpful and kind when I have interacted with them, and I appreciate the events each month!

The Julian doesn’t have a pool or a big fancy lounge. However, it makes up in the quality of the apartments and the neighbors. The location is fantastic as you are right in the heart of Plaza Midwood. Here is what is frustrating: We’ve had better managers here before RKW bought this from Greystar. The managers were engaging and friendly. They used come to their own social events and interact with their tenants. The Julien partners with a local business called Social Hub to do casual events and they are absolutely fun. This place recently decided to use some new app called Alfred. While on the surface this app appears better, it’s not. Payments are still processed through the old website. It’s not intuitive and this app feels like a giant marketing scheme to buy subpar services. Stop trying to sell me on a virtual gym class! What tenant asked for invasiveness?? To add to it, they raise rent by $200+ every yearI don’t want Alfred. I don’t want a poorly made social media app. I want to pay my bill quickly and move on. Don’t sell me on poor quality services when you raise my rates. They’ve been spamming residents non-stop to review their apartment, so I’m committing to the review as they’ve asked me DAILY through email, the old app, the new app, and even AT MY DOOR. My summary is this: It’s a high quality simple apartment. What you lack in amenities, you gain in quality of other more important categories — especially location. However, if you want peace from management, consider renting a house. That way, you don’t need to deal with 6 different apps or to learn the name of a new manager every other week.

This used to be a great place to live, but it’s changed a lot since this management company took over. Other neighbors I’ve talked to have similar complaints. We’ve had a range of issues, from our smoke detector beeping for weeks to a busted AC unit in the summer. Almost every time we’ve asked for maintenance, we have to ask them to come back multiple times because they either make the issue worse or deny that there’s an issue at all until it’s impossible to ignore. Once I told them the building-wide fire alarm went off at 5am on a Saturday and fire trucks showed up, and they said if that had happened “they would have known about it.” It’s impossible to get in touch with the front office or the leasing manager? I once called daily for a full week (and emailed a couple of times) and no one answered the phone for something that was time sensitive. On the rare occasion that someone answers the phone or an email, I’ve asked to speak directly to the apartment manager, I’m told it’s absolutely impossible because she manages two properties and “doesn’t have a phone at the other one.” If that’s true, they should have a work cellphone rather than completely ignoring tenants. Currently, we’re stuck with loud, inefficient window AC units because I asked them to replace our broken thermostat. They didn’t want to do this but I insisted because it frequently took 4-5 hours to cool just 1 degree, and would randomly dip to 50 degrees in the middle of the night. The maintenance tech showed up to do this and didn’t shut off the breaker (shocking himself more than once) to install the new one, which must have blown a fuse because it didn’t work, and then when he tried to install the old one, that one no longer worked at all, too. They sent the regional manager, who wasn’t kind about me asking him to wear a mask despite explaining I’m immunocompromised. He didn’t fix the thermostat. Today, I woke up to a warm refrigerator. While I’m not an expert, the timing of it has me convinced that a fuse or something WAS blown. Now we have to throw out the $200 worth of groceries that we just bought. I’m trying to call The Julien front office now. I’ve tried about 5 times now, and no answer. They raised our rent almost $300 this year. I guess they’re using the money on the events they host, or the energy drinks they’re always promoting on their Instagram. I’d rather have the lower rent and a communicative apartment staff.

The Julien is a wonderful apartment complex! Not only are the apartments beautiful, but the staff is kind and helpful. I love it here

Quiet, peaceful place & walkable distance to the Post Office, grocery and pubs! Nice walking trails available for those inclined.

great place to live, great staff who were very accommodating of my desire to expedite my move in, they made everything smooth for me. The apartment tour was very use, apts are well maintained and the staff are very responsive to residents needs

Ive loved living in plaza Midwood. Its a great walking community and I love being so close to shops and restaurants and a neighborhood park. Ill miss my very spacious balcony the most and the convenient guest parking.

I have lived at The Julien for almost 4 years now, and have had a great experience here. Staff is friendly and maintenance is taken care of quickly and professionally. The smaller apartment complex has a safe community feel - other residents are friendly and respectful. Restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and yoga studios are all within walking distance, but The Julien is also nestled in the historic Commonwealth neighborhood where families of all ages live.

I really like my apartment. It's in a great location, everything is modern and elegant, my internet works, great cell reception, the smart home capabilities are neat. ( I have Nest hooked up to my Alexa, and can set the temperature even when I'm away.) The walls are very well insulated too, so I don't waste a ton on heating and cooling, plus the apartments are virtually sound proof. I've had movies and music playing at a decent volume late at night and have never had any complaints from my neighbors. I can't hear any of their activities either, so the space was obviously engineered with that in mind. Packages are left at my inside entrance 99% of the time as well, so they don't go missing like I've heard in other apartment complexes in the area. Also, the staff are friendly and responsive to requests and concerns, and my neighbors are nice people too. It's a very dog friendly place, and I enjoy being in a safe Commonwealth bubble that still has easy access to the greater city of Charlotte. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance too. Great place to live... And, once Covid is done with, it will be nice to have the amenities again as well...

Quite boutique apartment in a happening neighborhood. Luxury apartment quality with an unassuming vibe. Friendly staff, respectful neighbors, lovely pets.

Beautiful complex in ideal plaza midwood location. Can easily walk to the grocery store, restaurants, and bars. Very nice space with up-to-date kitchen appliances, shower, washer/dryer, etc. More affordable than most other places in the area as you don't have to pay for tons of extra amenities, which I like, but there is still gated parking, courtyard, small gym, and common area w/ espresso machine. Management has been incredibly helpful during my time living here.

So glad we chose to stop in at the Julien while we were searching for a place in Charlotte. Its a welcoming and warm community, and we are very happy with the decision to relocate here!

Modern boutique apartment community in a very appealing location with solid amenities!

Awesome community. Nice updated units, and in a great part of the neighborhood. Honestly, the staff here is what makes this the best. Every person from is friendly, prompt with addressing any concerns or questions. This place is so well kept! Clean, smells good, and properly taken care of.

The Julien was the perfect match for me 3 years ago when I moved to Charlotte. It is in a great location close to so many restaurants, bars, yogs studios, shopping and Harris Teeter. The apartment building itself was built great and the extra touches in each apartment are very unique! I will be living at The Julien until I buy a home of mine own.

I'm in love with my apartment and the community! I have never had an issue and the styling and neighborhood make it perfect.

Great location and even better staff. They take care of any situation right away. Grill and patio area is really nice and always kept clean. My favorite thing is the coffee machine 24/7.

Studio apartment is the best price range around town for the quality! Immediately loved the place and patiently waited on the wait list for the next floor plan to come up. Staff is really personable and helpful during the move-in process. Very happy with my new home at The Julien!

Lived here for a few. This place is pretty sweet. Can walk to whatever i need. In addition, the neighbors are pretty cool. Staff is friendly and knows my name when I swing through. I like not having a pool cause it keeps the peace and what I was looking for. Overall pretty fantastic! I will def recommend place! One Love!

The Julien has been my home since they opened in 2016. I am sad to be leaving such a great community! It was the perfect place before I bought my home. Great staff, clean building, and all key fob access.

Moving out next week and sad to leave such a great community. The staff has been really pleasant and always attentive to everything I asked them about. Great place, I highly recommend.

I recently took a tour of the community and met Shaunna and Lynn. They were very helpful and got me really excited about moving again after living in a house for 5 years. The upgrades were nice and I love the courtyard. It was important to me to have nice amenities when going back to apartments. The Julien has everything I was looking for.

Very happy with my decision to move into The Julien. I am one of the first residents to move to the community and plan to stay as long as possible. Helpful leasing staff and maintenance.

Really quaint community. I toured many around Plaza Midwood and liked this one the best. Two-bedroom set up is really nice, also like the hardwood in all of the living space. I would recommend.

Moved in about 8 months ago. Everything has been great so far no problems. The office staff is super friendly and made moving in a breeze. I haven't had any problems with neighbors or noise yet. I especially love the area. Having the ability to walk to restaurants, breweries, and Harris Teeter is a great plus.
