Property Ratings at The Kales Building
When I first moved here it was great. Then they switched leasing ladies and ever since I have only had issues. She does not communicate when anything is happening in the apartments. There are 2 elevators but one is almost always out of commission with no notice from management letting us know when it will be back in commission. If you want to live somewhere where you can never get ahold of the leasing office this is the place to live. Although the maintenance man Mark is a life saver and the best one I have ever had and is great at his job.

We regret to hear you feel this way about your experience and would love to learn more and assess areas of improvement, including communications. Please contact the office so we may learn who you are.
I lived here for a year and I absolutely loved it but they won't give me my deposit back (even though the resident portal says they approved a full refund) and are impossible to get ahold of. They ignore my calls and emails, whether I send them directly or through the website. The only time they picked up a call is when I blocked my caller ID info but I never heard back. They had a management change just a couple months before I left and there is a noticeable difference in service. Super disappointing because the staff before was amazing.
Property Manager at The Kales Building, Responded To This Review
We are thrilled to hear you loved living here and we hope your deposit arrived amid post office delays - we believe it should have arrived shortly after you left this feedback.
If I were going to live downtown longer, I'd be very likely to stay at the Kales building. The property manager just changed so I can't speak for the future, but in my year here everything has been handled quickly which I'm thankful for. The building itself is incredibly well built, there's something like two foot of concrete between floors so I've never heard my neighbors unless they're having a seriously loud party. The apartments themselves are relatively well laid out and everything is good quality. Downsides, it's expensive and living in downtown can be a serious headache. Parking is $175 a person on top of rent for underground parking and you've got to go through a long hallway and up an elevator every time you get groceries or whatever. There's constant loud engine revving and party bar cars on Woodward and the nearby streets so I had to start wearing earplugs every night. There's also a nightclub near Kales that blasts music until about two AM that makes me have to wear earplugs also. So all the problems downtown are pretty much downtown issues, not Kales issues. I'm moving out, but if I were to stay in downtown Kales is where I'd want to be.
I have been looking for a decent size loft style/condo for some time now. This apartment has everything I could imagine and it is in a great location. Fox Theater, Hockey Town, Comerica Park AND Ford Field are within a two minute walking distance. Not to mention once the rail system is complete on Woodward and the new Red Wings facility is complete, this area will be the prime location to work, sleep and play!
