Property Ratings at The Lake Shore Apartments
I've lived here since early 2021, and absolutely love living here. I truly think this is the best value for the area--I have friends who pay more for much worse quality in other parts of Ypsi. The maintenance people are prompt and respectful, and the leasing folks work hard to put on events like weekly food trucks and a pool party in the summer. The amenities are unbeatable. I love the sense of community here. The lake view is unbeatable and I feel safe walking around the neighborhood at night by myself. I'm baffled by some of the more negative reviews as the staff here have been nothing but lovely.

The leasing office people. Management are horrible. Bad attitudes nasty disposition. You have been warned I agree with the other review person yea there is a waiting list the property is absolutely beautiful. But that management team needs to go it’s normally managers thst kills the entire experience along with a leasing agent or two as well

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with our leasing office team. We strive to provide excellent customer service and it's concerning to learn that we fell short of your expectations. We appreciate your input and will take it into consideration as we work towards improving our services.
The units themselves aren’t bad but unless you get a newly renovated unit, expect outdated appliances. The kitchens are SMALL, you cannot open the oven and fridge at the same time and counter space is extremely limited. Maintenance is OK at best, they handle the small stuff well but the bigger stuff not so much. My dishwasher kept backing up and I was worried it was going to leak all over the floor. It took them 4 visits before the agreed to finally replace it. The first time, the maintenance guy told me it was normal for the dishwasher to back up every once and a while. So it wasn’t until trip 2 they even entertained that there may actually be a problem. Management is hands down the biggest negative. They’re rude and cannot handle any sort of negative feedback. All they do is tell you to move out and brag about having a wait list. If you do in fact want to continue living there, do NOT say a anything negative or you will be on their list to not resign. If you ask the assistant manager to talk to the manager, it won’t happen. The assistant manager likes to believe she is the manager. Overall, the place REALLY needs a new assistant manager as the current one is killing the place with her attitude.

I absolutely love living here! I moved in last winter and have loved every minute being here. Maintenance is quick to fix any issues I’ve had, management is helpful, and there are numerous amenities. All kinds of cool things like food trucks every Friday, pool parties, fitness classes. I love that it is gated as well. Would recommend!

I lived in the apartment for a year for 3 months during the holiday season we have a mouse/rat issue that maintanxe was in and out of the apartment everyday Even after they told us it was resolved we found two dead in are spare bedroom. The most they could do for us was a 100 dollar credit on rent and made it seem like we were be a hassle to them. Leasing office has been very good customer service but management is a joke

We regret to hear that your living experience resulted in a negative perception of our community. Our team did our due diligence to address this matter, as we understand how frustrating this was for you. We extend our sincerest apologies, and we wish you the best with your next home.
I've lived at the Lake Shore for 10 years and I love it. Staff are responsive and polite, and rent is reasonable. Maintenance is some of the best you will find anywhere (shout-outs to Mike). Several years ago they planted rosebushes in front of my building, and I love to see them bloom every year. There is a community garden, too! Lots of dog owners here (it's a great place for pets), but they all pick up their dogs' waste, because when you have a nice place to call home, you care about it. The Lake Shore inspires a feeling of pride in where you live. I have no reservations recommending it to anyone.

I moved in last July and I have been loving it ever since! I live in a Bogart layout and it has enough space for me and my two cats, and the added bonus for my layout is that there is a storage locker in the basement! The staff has been incredibly friendly, helpful, and safe! I moved in during a pandemic and everyone in the leasing office did a superb job following COVID guidelines! If you are looking to lease I highly recommend Kayla, she was always prompt with her responses and was extremely helpful! Since moving in I have had a couple of maintenance requests and they have gotten fixed either the same day I submitted the request or the day after. In November I noticed something wasn't working right with my heat and Riley from maintenance came over within the hour to see what was wrong, turns out my heater was frozen. He came up with a solid plan to get it fixed and checked in several times throughout the next day to confirm everything was working properly. I inquired about getting some help with my DTE bill because it had been insanely high due to the frozen heater, and Rachael from management was able to give me a credit for it to use towards rent! She has been immensely helpful and patient with me and all my questions. I cannot say how much of a joy it has been to live here, and how accommodating the entire staff has been!

We’ve lived there for three years and have nothing negative to say. The maintenance are amazing, management is great, property is outstanding. Only reason we moved was to be closer to family but if we could take this property and move it with us we would! Highly recommend this property! Amazing people and very safe! 10/10 recommend

Thank you for three years of loyalty! We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Our team is here to help if you ever need us!
We moved in a couple months ago during COVID shutdowns and this place is absolutely wonderful! For a massive apartment complex, the staff, management, and maintenance are incredibly attentive and responsive. Any issues we've had, we've never had to wait more than a couple hours for them to be solved. The lake view is lovely, the amenities are great (so far - some are still closed for pandemic reasons), and there's a lot of accessible open space outdoors. The apartment is very spacious and comfortable, and everything was in excellent condition. One "above-and-beyond" amenity that stands out for me: during the school year, they have a shuttle service to Washtenaw Community College and Eastern Michigan University. It just goes to show how far they will go to accommodate residents' needs. Rent is VERY reasonable, too. Lake Shore is seriously a gem!

We lived here 5 years while we started our family and couldn’t be happier with the place. First of all everything is in excellent condition, property and apartments. The maintenance crew is incredible and fast-and they were always amazing with our children. We absolutely loved this place.

Thank you for taking time to reflect on your amazing five years with us! We could not be happier to see that your time here was nothing but positive, and that our staff was there for you when you needed them most. We wish you all nothing but the best going forward!
My boyfriend and I have lived here almost a year now and absolutely love it. I’ve never NOT felt safe when outside at night and the front gate security is great! The building we are in has plenty of parking available, however, sometimes we do have to park in the overflow lot by the dog park. We’ve never had any issues with hearing our neighbors so the walls seem to be pretty thick. Maintenance has always arrived within the same day of each of our requests and they are friendly each time they enter. We really like that they vacuum the hallways and wipe down the handrails each week as well! Overall, we really love the community aspect and family-feel that this place provides. Lovely landscape and lots of walking trails within the complex. We recommend this place to everyone!!

Lived here for years. With rent renewals they offered money off each both. Have to break lease for my mother medical reasons. She cannot physically go up the 3 flights of stairs, had no handicap accessible units available. She will need someone in the home with her when me and my dad aren’t there. I asked if the fees they gifted to us for renewal could just be waived and we put the two months rent. Was told my mothers medical conditions did not fit their criteria. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LIVING HERE. 1/8/2020

I'll start off by saying this property is beautiful. We overlooked Ford Lake and that was incredible. The living room was very spacious, so that was a bonus. Rent was reasonable for the size of the apartment. Between work and Ann Arbor for me, which was right where I wanted to be. My big issue was the AC/HVAC system. When it was working, it was extremely inefficient. We typically spent over $200 a month because according to management "your apartment style was not designed properly". This ultimately led us to paying an exorbitant utility bill each month. It was enough to heat and cool an entire home, not a 800 sq. ft. apartment. When it WASN'T WORKING, was the bigger issue though. EVERY MONTH our air conditioning or heat (AC always went out when it was hot outside, and heat when it was cold) would go out, leading maintenance to drop off either a window unit, or space heater (depending on the season). The window unit was never able to reach our room, and we could only use one space heater at a time because the second would cause the electric breaker to trip. These are incredibly inefficient and led to EVEN HIGHER utility bills. I asked management about upgrading the HVAC system probably a dozen times, and they were just unwilling to spend money on this. We understood that it would be costly for them to do that, but we probably spent a month and half with the HVAC system working properly. This led us to being constantly uncomfortable in our own apartment, and drove us away. It was extremely frustrating to come home after a long day of work and have to bundle up inside because my apartment would get below 50 degrees in the winter, or constantly sweat out the heat waves that would cause our room to be 85+. Very frustrating and disappointing at the unwillingness to fix this one issue that I am sure others experienced as well.

My husband and my Labradoodle and I lived here from 2015–2018 and let me say that it is THE best place to be in the area if you have a dog. There's lovely Ford Lake to walk beside, a small dog park and a big dog park, a pet wash, and SO many friendly dog owners! Parking can be an issue if you don't pay an extra $15 for a covered space, and management wasn't always on top of the "skunky" smell in our building (if you know what I mean), but it is a safe place close to everything in the Ann Arbor area. I'd recommend it—especially if you have big dogs!

We cannot thank you enough for the rating and recommendation! We truly appreciate you sharing your experience in our community and we wish you the best in your future endeavors!
It was a mistake moving in here. If you're looking for a place to live that has nothing but cheap amenities and mediocre views of a lake that you can't access from your apartment, then this is the place for you. If you have any problems at all with maintenance issues or incorrect billing, forget about it! Management doesn't care and will not help you resolve the problems that they left you with! BEWARE... they bill utilities divided evenly among the other people/units in your building, they don't have any way to bill you for your individual usage, sketchy if you ask me. I was left with gas bills each month over the winter upwards of $300 for a 2 bedroom apartment because I was paying to heat my neighbors 3 bedroom apartments too. The sales girls in the leasing office are amazing and super nice and friendly, but don't be fooled, once you move in you will never talk to them again, you have to talk to the other people in the management office and they are rude and don't care about you one bit. Once you sign the lease, their show ends and you're a pawn in their game. This place exists to purely suck the money from your pockets and treat you like dumb kids anytime you have any problems. I've never been treated like this in my life and would highly suggest looking elsewhere, you'll be glad you did.
I lived here for a year and wouldn’t have moved out if I wasn’t starting a new job in another state. I loved it here. The complex is very big with plenty of space to walk my dogs and still be in the community. It’s very well lit at night so I never felt unsafe being outside. The whole complex is very well kept and always looks nice. They give you plenty of opportunities to be involved in the community through hosted events and fun things to do. There is always someone at the dog parks and the dog wash station was a great amenity. I loved my apartment unit too. It needed some updating but overall it was very spacious for one person with tons of closet/storage space. You don’t hear much noise through the walls so it’s usually quiet. Maintenance keeps the buildings vacuumed and cleaned every week too. I would definitely recommend these apartments to anyone moving to the area. I hate to leave!!
Just pray to whatever god you wish that you never have to deal with the office staff. Also, their mail concierge service is a joke, if you work 8-5 expect to not be able to pick up your packages on the weekend, which they are closed. They sell you a lifestyle while outrageously jacking up the rate each year. Find a better, cheaper location.
Have recently moved here and must say what a wonderful complex very clean and well maintained, the office and maintenance staff have been so helpful and friendly was a couple of minor issues with the apartment but maintenance were straight on to it and fixed asap Im so glad I chose here to live.
I have been living here for about 6 months now. I am thoroughly impressed with it! Management is always friendly, and trying to find new ways to interact with residents. Just last week they were out by the gate serving breakfast for those of us who work early in the morning which was amazing! But besides awesome management, the rent is very affordable, and the amenities are great! They are one of the only truly dog friendly complexes, and have an amazing dog park. They also keep the premises clean, the pool is fantastic, and you can't beat the lake view. Overall, I am more than satisfied with this complex. I recommend them regularly when I hear my friends are looking for a place to move.
the overall apartment complex is good,as far as landscaping, good up keep and amenities. the building that i am in has limited parking which sucks when your neighbors have company and you have to drive to a different building to park. the only other problem is the thin walls i can here everything my upstairs neighbor does which you kind of have to expect in a apartment but some things you just shouldn't be able to hear. i do love that they have two separate pools, a dog park , and daily workout classes that are free. The free shuttle they have to the local colleges have helped out a lot .
Amazing community and staff, not to mention an amazing view to wake up to and just enjoy all year round if you can manage to get one of the lake view apartments. Spacious bedrooms, very attentive maintenance crew, and the staff the best I have ever dealt with in terms of an apartment community. From the moment you sign your lease they welcome you home, and it was an awesome touch when we got into the apartment and opened the fridge to find a welcome package! Awesome activities throughout the year from fitness to pet training to pool events for adults and families alike. Volleyball courts and BBQ grills and picnic tables make summer get togethers easy and convenient. Adults only clubhouse and pool, but also a family pool on site. Fitness center has the basics, but they make up for it with free training classes from Zumba to yoga to kettle bell and High Intensity Interval Training with certified trainers. Constantly have rewards for residents just because, from paying rent early to rent credit Easter egg hunts and bingo games, and not to mention the free shuttle service to Eastern Michigan and Washtenaw Community colleges, which come in handy especially when winter rolls around if you don't like driving in the winter weather. The only set back has nothing to do with the company, and that's the extra cold and insects that come with living on the lake, but they schedule pest control at no cost to you so you can just let them know you want a service done and they take care of it all for you. Best apartment value in the area as far as I'm concerned.
This is the absolute best place I have ever lived at! The Lakeshore staff is all about customer service and works tirelessly making sure that all residents needs are met. The complex is well maintained and pet friendly. Not to mention that you never have to leave home because there are activities planned everyday of the week! Awesome!
The maintenance was great at this apartment complex. It had two pools, internet café and lots of activity's throughout the months. I would recommend this apartments to my friends.
I've lived at The Lakeshore Apartments for about three years. While the amenities are nice, there are many drawbacks to living here. Parking is a major issue. Also many of the residents are heavy pot smokers. In my building there are several pot smokers that smoke throughout the day and night. My small children would probably test positive for THC, that's how much the smell comes into our apartment. Management says that their hands are tied and they take a very soft approach to handling this issue. Interesting considering they are heavy handed when it comes to other violations like noise and pet related issues. Many years ago they bought this complex and rehabbed it into a really nice property, unfortunately it is in decline again.
I will give this complex a good rating for: Customer service with the great guys in Maint. Most of the management staff. Do not rent a below ground apt. here if you have allergies. I have been ill since moving here and found out it is due to mold. They are fighting with me over it, but now my lawyer is on this situation. The grounds are awesome, 2 dog parks, 2 pools, a lake for boating etc. Safe, gated area. but I have to move due to being so ill. Thanks to your website I found a perfect apt. in AZ.
I like my view out my window i even like the staff what i don't like how the rent goes up every year. I think if you stay over 5 years you should have some kind of perk for staying there. There is no loyalty for stay for long periods of time.
If you're looking for an apartment with space, this apartment is for you. The living room is huge and there's a huge bedroom with a giant walk in closet. There is a huge balcony that's right on the lake. You can see sailboats sailing by every day, and it's very peaceful. It's quiet, but only minutes from Ypsilanti, Belleville, Romulus, and Ann Arbor. It's definitely for someone who appreciates nature but has to live in an apartment.
I don't know about you but i love when i get more than i expect. First off they had a discounted room that saved me 65 bucks right off the bat. Then i realized the grounds are well kept and they everything a guy could want, 2 pools, a weight room, a frolf course, even bingo where your winnings can go right to your rent.
great place to live, however nabors smoked pot on consistent basis. Administration notified and did nothing. Pot smell went through air ducks into our apt.
This is probably the worst apartment I've ever lived in, within one year of living there I've had to make probably 6 or 7 maintenance request. They offer car ports for $15 which is fine, but I've been trying to get one for months and they never have any near my building and absolutely refuse to institute a wait list program which is just silly. When I wanted to move I asked if I could rent out just one month after my lease ended so I could pull money together to move, I even offered to pay more than my usual monthly and they flat out refused saying it wasn't in their best interest--great attitude guys. They give you these fobs to get past the gate, they hardly work and you end up waiving it around for a minute just to get in to your own apartment, and heaven forbid you lose the fob, they make you buy a replacement for $25, that's on top of the $1000 we already pay monthly, and if you don't pay it they'll do it automatically and add it to your rent. The snow removal was pretty horrible, they trapped many cars this past winter by using their plow and piling a couple feet of snow behind the cars that were parked. Long story short: Expensive, horrible apartment that doesn't give a rats anything about their tenants.
Lakeshore is apartment living at it's finest. Apartments are spacious, amenities are excellent and it is a beautiful community. It is always very quite and all issues are addressed quickly by management. This is a wonderful community and living on the lake is great! If I am going to live in an apartment I am glad it is this one!
This apartment complex is huge. Multiple pools and dog parks as well being lakeside to ford lake. There is something here for everyone. I highly recommend it!
Lakeshore is a nice place to live. There are lots of community events - majority of which are free! They also take good care of the grounds and I like that people have to check in at the gate if they are visiting.
Living in lake shore apartments is like living in a dream. Spacious quiet nice place to live. I am able to watch my dreams come true.
Our experience at our current apartment has been good thus far. The rent is a decent price for the area. The major selling point for us was the lakeview. The patios/balconies are very large and it is awesome being able to sit outside and enjoy all the views. They also have 2 dog parks we are able to let our pets run around at. The pool area & deck also overlook the lake & is a great area to relax in. The only thing that could be improved upon is the location of the complex, as there are not many restaurants or things around us to enjoy.
I have lived at Lake Shore Apartments for almost two years now and I love it. McKinley took over the property I believe 10 years ago, they have changed the reputation the apartments once had. With 24 hour security and a key fan gate, I feel very safe and comfortable in my home. With a separate adult and kid pool, I can enjoy a relaxing day over looking Ford Lake at any time. My most favorite activity is participating in the free exercise class weekly.
The lakeshore apartments in my personal opinion are the best I've ever been in, I say this having only livesd in one apartment ever. I'll start at the beginning and work my way through the timeline. Firstly the application process was very easy, I called and got a deal on a two bedroom that I thought seemed very reasonable. I don't live in the tower, or on the lake as the name of the complex might imply. However when I arrived I was very pleased with the look of the grounds. I was shown my apartment promptly and liked it very much. White walls, white carpet, newly updated kitchen, nice cabinets, stainless appliances, nothing to complain about. Signed the paperwork. There are some amenities offered, adults only pool, gym (not great), dog parks (small and large), family pool, tennis courts, a lake with docks, a disc golf course which is free to play if you have discs (only a dollar to rent), and plenty of places to walk and run inside the gated community. I like the security the gate appears to provide, offers a small peace of mind which is nice. Ypsi isn't all bad, but there are some not so great spots. Only had one maintenance problem (fridge went out), and 24 hour maintenance fixed within the hour. I've never had a problem with any employee, all the staff is very nice and helpful when needed. The whole complex just had the windows replaced along with sliding doors. Which leads me to my only real complaint, winter time gas bill.... And dang was that a killer, from fall to winter the bill went up from maybe 40 bucks a month to almost 200... Hopefully the new windows help with that. I can't remember anything else I wanted to say. Oh, I bought kayaks for the lake which is nice to paddle around on, very large. Last random things, there are park grills around ( can't have any if you're on any floor above 1), volleyball nets, horseshoe pit, pull up bars around a 1/4 mile track, never hear my neighbors, or see them for that matter, parking isn't bad for me (my friend lives around the corner and he said it's a pain). I would definitely recommend taking a look at this place if you're moving to ypsi. Oh it's only 12 mins to eastern Michigan university. And maybe 20 to u of m. Wally World, target, Kroger, meijer, all only 8 mins away.
I feel really save here.Well maintained. Quiet at night and active during the day. The location is great, Its kind of in the middle of things and only about 20 minutes from the airport. The property is gated, which was a huge selling point for me. Its nice knowing that they are keeping track of who is coming into the complex. We are really big fans of the Disc Golf Course and there are lots of family fun stuff as well.
There are a lot of amenities here (pool, workout room, dog parks, tennis courts etc). They go up on the rent every year. Definitely over paying, apartment is outdated with VERY thin walls. Normally feel a draft in the winter and room feels extra cold, but they just replaced the windows hopefully that helps. There are dogs EVERYWHERE! (A lot of barking) maintenance is pretty good they come out pretty much the next day.
It's a big complex, but it isn't loud nor does it feel crowded. Balconies and patios face out toward well kept green spaces and nice lake views. Swimming pools are clean. Parking is ample. Office staff is friendly and helpful. Clubhouse has a variety activities to participate in. Fellow residents are respectful and pick up after their animals. It's a nice place to relax.
I went to visit this property hoping to check out one of the renovated units that they initially claimed they had available. On the day of my scheduled visit however, I learned that there weren't any renovated options available, but they insisted on showing one of the older options believing that I would be just as impressed with one of those. The actual unit did not look bad, but it definitely did not appear to have been updated in at least a decade. Since I was moving away from my current apartment for specifically that reason, I was not at all interested. The location also wasn't ideal for my daily commute as I prefer to have highway/freeway access within a mile radius of my residence. The pricing was reasonable however so that was a plus.
The apartments itself are beautiful. The Lakeshore office team and staff are horrible and so ugly acting and lack compassion-professionalism.The manager and asst. Manager as well as the team all are rude, and insensitive to the needs of the ppl. They always have an attitude. Customer service definately isn't a priority.
I moved to Lakeshore 2009 and over five years later like a fine wine it keeps getting better with time, the staff here is top shelf and they always aim to please their residents.I can truly say that i have found my extended family however, the amenities here are off the charts and for summer fun we have boat rides right on Ford Lake awesome! so come on over and see how we live the Lakeshore Life were you will get the most bang for your money!!
I've lived at Lake Shore since 2010 and don't ever see myself leaving for another apartment complex. My boyfriend and I have a two bedroom right on Ford Lake with 2 bathrooms and in-unit laundry...it's perfect. It's clear these apartments are old, but anything that needs repair is fixed same day by maintenance in my experience. The office staff is very down to Earth and friendly and go out of their way to plan a lot of activities for residents. We have become close friends with some of our neighbors we've met at events and the free work out classes. If you enjoy an 'involved community,' you'll love Lake Shore!
I love this complex, the security is exceptional and the grounds and apartments are very well kept and clean.
