Property Ratings at The Langston
My son stayed here while a student at CSU. He constantly had to double check the monthly charges. He would be double charged for parking and pet rent. High turnover rate in the rental office so never seem to get the same person twice. His final walk through was completed and he received the bill and moved out. 3 items: blind replaced, dry wall repair and hole in couch. One month later he received a bill of over $700. They are now saying the carpet needs replaced, mattresses needs replaced. Yes I am sure because of Covid 19 they are required to replace all these items before new tenants can move in.... so they are charging the past tenants to cover their costs. We were warned of over charges by past student/residents and we should have listened. They are no longer honoring his final walk through. Be very careful and document everything if you rent here.

While living here is convenient the staff is horrible. They never have enough parking passes and its way to expensive. Its almost impossible to truly enjoy living here, the people constantly have parties and smoke, but those same people wanna create a noise complaint or complain about moving furniture. Again not the worst place, but not with it for the price.

Hi, thank you for sharing your glowing review! We are happy to have you in our community and if we can ever do anything for you, please feel free to reach out to our team.
I’ve lived here for 1 year and i love it. Staff and maintenance is very nice and helpful. Parking is nice does the job, it’s just parking nothing special, covered is an extra 50 bucks which i don’t agree with but i don’t pay for it so no use in complaining. I live in a 4 bedroom apartment, only thing i can say is i got random roommates and they are all crazy, but that’s not the langston’s fault. Bedrooms are nice, don’t really like the bed frames bc they are just steel, but again not a huge problem or me. Never had issues with bugs or anything like that. I do have a dog and i think pet rent is acceptable not too overpriced. Rent is a little much but my rationale is that it is right downtown and across the street from CSU (which i love because i am a student) also the amenities are good quality. I am moving into a two bedroom loft after this lease period with a friend and very excited to live here another year and hopefully till i graduate. I love it here some people have had bad experiences but i have not at all. I hope this is helpful to some!

Dear Emily, It is wonderful to hear that you are having a positive living experience at The Langston. We hope the location continues to be convenient for you, and your new apartment home with us suits you well. Please reach out if you need any assistance.
When business trumps ethics. They will not allow me to buyout of a lease that has not even begun or a unit that i haven’t even moved into or have the keys for. They are quick to threaten the use of “ legal matters”, while the mistake is on their end for anything. If you know what’s good for you and want minimal headaches, your best bet is to find another place to live and not with this property management company.

If you are thinking of living at the Langston, I am begging you please reconsider. This is the worst apartment complex in all of northeast Ohio. They are the most disorganized, unprofessional, money-grabbing establishment I have ever dealt with. I’m not being dramatic when i say this complex is the apartment equivalent of the River Styx. Please take this warning and learn from my mistake, live absolutely ANYWHERE ELSE than the Langston on Chester Road in Cleveland, Ohio.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and we are truly glad that you have made The Langston home! Let us know if there's anything we can do as we continue our efforts to make our product and service the very best.
The staffing here is so unprofessional and unorganized. While the apartments are nice and the area is so perfectly convenient, the employees make is hard to want to sign a lease here due to their lack of professionalism. They fail to return phone calls, overcharge for security deposits with no valid reasoning and lack customer service in all aspects. I recommend looking for elsewhere to stay if you can't tolerate rudeness. I can only imagine what the full year of dealing with them would be like if I decided to sign the lease. Most unprofessional staffing I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with!!

The staff has always been friendly and nice. The maintenance staff has always been able to come to my room for any issue fairly quickly. At first site this place is very nice and extremely convenient for downtown access . The parking lot is freshly paved, the building is nice and painted, and it's quiet. Fast forward to 2 months into your lease; they have let the place go. Holes in the hallway walls, you can hear the people above and below you walking through the common hallway, and trash everywhere. Fast forward to the last month of your lease; you will now see painters, cleaners, and asphalt teams come and spruce the place up for the new victims looking to rent here. Although the staff is friendly and nice, they do not relay information to you nor are they on top of things. They become annoyed with you on move in day when you list everything that is wrong with the apartment. My carpet was stained, the oven was not cleaned, and there were crumbs and dirt in the couch. The staff member was irritated that we made her call a cleaner to come in and redo the job. Now at the end of my lease, the Langston tried to charge me for the stains in my bedroom that were clearly reported! I immediately called and they adjusted my final account balance to below ten dollars. For the bag of trash that they filled while cleaning my room. Another example of them not being on top of things is when my four-bedroom apartment had bed bugs. They had an exterminator come and inspect the apartment, then they came back and treated twice. However, I had to hear this second hand as the staff did not notify me of the extinction dates or the fact that we had bed bugs. I had to learn from my roommate days before the extermination. Furthermore, after day one of extermination I was never told if I could enter the room or not. To keep things somewhat short: There have been two shootings at this location. One by a drive by shooting with an automatic rifle where a criminal shot at two of the buildings. Another shooting occurred in the building when someone said that two men followed him inside and shot at him. They are very money driven as well. Large up-front costs like a nonrefundable $250 redecorating fee, a security deposit on top of that, a hold fee for the apt, and then an application fee. The rent is also steep. The four-bedroom apartment is your best money saver since you only pay per room and share a living and kitchen.
Apartment is nice, management is horrible and so rude. They locked me out of my apartment numerous times because of construction. They remodeled all lofted apartments, adding a wall and window to close off the loft, spending weeks renovating and completely destroying the apartments while the tenants were still there and paying full rent. I am so happy to be out of there.

We are truly sorry to see you go. As we have recently changed our management team, I would hope that should you have chosen to stay, your experience would be entirely different this year. I’m sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience, especially with upgrades to our loft homes that were not to your liking. Our lofts are usually quite popular mostly because the upgrades give each roommate much more privacy. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and we apologize that your time with us was not all you wanted it to be.
Fire alarms go off in the middle of the night at least once a month, if not more. When they go off the only elevator in the building won't work for 1-3 days. If there is an empty bedroom in your apartment, they don't feel they need to provide notice to the residents to enter your "common area" - they've entered ours at least 8 times this past year with no notice (not even a knock sometimes) and possibly more because we all work during the day. When they do give notice your lease may have stated at least 24 hours notice, but they just sent out an email at 7pm tonight that painters will be coming into everyone's apartments at 7am tomorrow. Many residents have pets that could possibly escape due to this and shouldn't be expected to keep them locked up all day just in case someone enters the apartment. If you're looking for an overpriced dorm room, move here. If you want any privacy at all find somewhere else.
Property Manager at The Langston, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your feedback. Our fire alarm system in one building has been a problem, but we have consistently and diligently been working to prevent any further nuisance alarms. The elevators do shut down with an alarm, but they have never been off line for 3 days. They are only off line until the alarm is reset and back to normal mode which doesn’t take but a few moments. Should you find that an elevator is having problems, that is an emergency and needs to be reported to our emergency line or office immediately. Our policy is to notify our residents prior to entering. If you’ve placed a service request in our system, as per your lease, your written service request is our permission to enter. When contractors are due to arrive, we do notify, and maintenance crews are required to knock and announce themselves before entering. As we have a trained, experienced and highly professional maintenance team, I am confident these policies are being followed. If you find this otherwise, or if you should have any issue or concern, please contact our office directly so we can work with you to resolve.
I am choosing to remain anonymous because i want my security deposit back. Let me Begin by saying I am not angry and I am not bitter, these are just things I wish I knew before moving into the Langston. Here is a list of some of the problems at the Langston: Fire alarms go off randomly fairly often and usually between the hours of 2am and 6am. (More than once in the same night) People are vandalizing the building faster than the Langston can clean it up. (Food and drinks poured on the ground and signs ripped off walls. ) Maintenance takes days to a weeks to fix anything. The place was put together so quickly that it's made very cheaply. The refrigerator for four people is the same size of that for one person. The back of the refrigerator freezes food. The kitchen walls are not splash guarded. When you move in with randomly assigned strangers you have to put the electricity in your name and Trust the strangers because otherwise the Langston will charge you 25 extra dollars a month per person for having the electricity in their name. The roommate assignment does not go by what you fill out on your roommate form, it's just random. The windows are not insulated well so it is freezing in the winter and burning in the summer. The central heating and cooling does not flow evenly throughout the apartment. These are just some of the things I wish I knew veggie moving in. I hope that this helps you to make an informed decision.
Property Manager at The Langston, Responded To This Review
Thank you so much for sharing your concerns. We value everyone’s feedback. Please allow me to comment on your frustrations. We have had some issues with our fire alarm system in one of our buildings. This has been a tremendous inconvenience and frustration for our residents, and we are well aware of it. These alarms are not random, and are certainly not ignored by our staff. The Langston team has been working diligently, to control unnecessary disturbance and to try to fix the problem, that has taken longer and been more complicated to fix than we hoped. Rest assured, we have been non-stop working on this, sometimes all night long, to eliminate the false alarms. Though we believe we are close to finding a solution, we are still on high alert to be sure the system is functioning properly. The “vandalism” you speak of has not been property-wide, but isolated to this building, and our team is aware and working to find the culprit and fix the damage. Further, if you have maintenance issues in your apartment, like the windows, the temperature control, and the refrigerator please notify our office or place a request online and one of our maintenance team members will be out to assess the situation and provide repair if possible. Utilities are to be in residents’ names, as per the lease. At any time if you need help with any of these things, our team is more than happy to help you out. We want to give excellent customer service, but we need to be aware of your issues to help.
I love my loft. Its new and right in the heart of everything, so just about everything is a short walk away! Its so cozy and homely.
I've stayed at my apartment at the Langston in Cleveland for a year now. The experience was good overall. The area isn't exactly the best, but if you're a student at CSU or work at the University, the location is a prime spot to live. The Langston is fairly expensive but worth the price of the quality of apts. Definitely recommended
