Property Ratings at The Laurel
Man, if I could go back and tell myself to find another apartment I would. I lived there a year and one month. I didn't renew my lease. It took 9 maintenance request to finally get my AC unit replaced. When they finally decided to replace the AC unit the maintenance guy walked in while I was in the shower. Then he came back and for fortunately I put on clothes before he returned. When he installed the window unit he didn't screw it in place or anything. (Single woman with a kid on the first floor) I had to have my boyfriend come and put in wood blocks in the window otherwise anyone could have come right on in the apartment. The blinds in the master bedroom and the other bedroom were too small for the window. You could look right into the apartment. I had to hang curtains. They finally came and replaced one of them after I had been in the apart for about 8 months. When I moved in there were rips in the vinyl flooring there were never fixed. I had to threaten them to get my mailbox key. They didn't tell me which mailbox was mine until I threatened to contact the postmaster general for withholding mail. They promised to open all the pools and communicate when they were opened. This never happened. They didn't email or post that the pools were opened. You couldn't go and enjoy the pools with my 7 year old because there was drinking and loud music that was inappropriate for young children. There are so many more options in Spartanburg and new apartment complexes being built find another apartment complex.

Management here is awful. Took 6 months to get the washer and dryer we had in our initial leasing contract. Three pools, but only one opens. Maintenance is useless, we were locked out of our apartment on a holiday night with hazardous weather and maintenance isn't authorized to let us in so we had to pay out of pocket for a locksmith because they won't authorize their staff to assist in these manners. We've had dead animals in front of our building for weeks at a time, the dog walking stations aren't up kept and are often overflowing with dog poop, and the trash compactor is infested with rats. By infested I mean you see dozens of them ravaging the mountain of trash bags that is often left in front of it. I'm amazed they are listed as 5 stars with so many bad reviews.

Hi User, Thank you for your review. We're very sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience. Please take a moment to contact us so we can discuss your concerns. Sincerely, Roberto, leasing manager.
We are not even residents yet and we having the worst experience yet! We applied online over 4 weeks ago, paid $200 in application fees at that time and our application hasn’t been submitted or processed at all. And the apartment that we sought after with the appropriate move in date is no longer available! They are horrible with communication as they don’t answer any calls and don’t respond to voicemails or emails! Its just been a horrible experience from the beginning and now I’m requesting a full refund of application fees paid. We have tried and tried to give this company several chances to rectify the issue and no resolution was ever made. This is a very bad first impression and I would not recommend this company at all. It’s extremely unprofessional to take money from someone and not render services in a timely fashion. I’ll be sure to update if anything changes.

Big shot out to Demecka for all her help. Moving from one state to another was not easy. Thank you for making this change easy. Your kindness is very much appreciated!
Living at the Laural is ok if you need a roof over your head and our apartment is decent , but dont be fooled , they have alot of nice pictures on here but most of them are old and not accurate , when you come in it looks nice but thats about it , most of the amenities they say they provide are not true , the pools have been closed for 2 years , gas grills locked behind gates with no gas , bathrooms locked up in picnic area , no microwave in the apartment and the list goes on , also watch the rent bill for added charges , you pay your rent and then you pay an up charged water and sewer bill of around $60 , they charge $30 for trash pick up service but that is hit and miss , right now more miss and you have to pay for it anyway , they also add pest control that is really no good , and now they are making people pay for tv and internet , these services have to be payed and you cant op out , package service includes packages left in the gym floor where they go missing , also if something brakes they may or may not fix it or make it worse and you have to fix it yourself , we got our new lease and surprise they are going up $100 a month just because they can , most of the people around are good decent people but part of the office staff is rude and dont help with anything , just so things to consider before signing a lease at the Laural .

User we're very sorry to hear that you're unhappy with your experience. Feedback like yours is what drives us to improve and if you're open to it, we'd like to look into the issues you're experiencing.
Are you considering the Laurel? I am going to give you my honest opinion. 1- The show apartments were just updated this year and look FABULOUS. But remember: *None of the apartments available have been updated this year. Our apartment is an older one with dark cabinets etc. It is pretty much fine. I like it. We do have 4 maintenance requests in that we are waiting on but only one is over 2 weeks old. 2-You pay for amenities & there seem to be some nice ones! But: -there are 3 pools. It's mid June and none are open. 2 haven't opened at all this year. 1 opened for a few weeks and is now closed due to missing tiles but those same tiles were missing when the pool originally opened. so idk why it's suddenly a problem. Anyway the 2 pools that haven't opened have been promised "in a few weeks" for quite some time and I was just out there and neither is even uncovered yet. - Gas grills cannot be used because the area is locked & there is no gas - charcoal grills are unusable with bee nests etc - the fountain is full of algae & breeds mosquitos 3- Pay attention to your bill! In March, we all received an email that we would need to purchase renter's insurance from an outside source, it wouldn't be available anymore. Ok we did that BUT the charge began appearing again in May for Insurance. It took 3 trips to the office to get it corrected on my bill. 10 a month doesn't sound like much right? But there are at least 100 apartments in the complex and that's 1000 a month just for 100 1 br apartments. It becomes an excellent source of income right? 4- they mention having security at night to call if you need someone. EVERY TIME I have tried to contact security the phone wasn't working. So at night you are on your own. When the new owners took over in March we were so excited. And the office did re-open so you can see & speak to someone now. Which is great because I am never able to get anyone on the phone. (I have the new number by the way) It was busy and bustling for a little bit but after the investors came to check things out, all activity appears to have ceased and we are back to business as usual. That's all of the bad I am going to share. THE GOOD -the location is great -so much potential with the amenities and the property. -it feels safe All in all, I would sign again if I had it to do over. BUT I really hope we can move at the end of our lease.
The way that they market this complex is laughable, please don’t invest your money here. They don’t change air filters, provide pest control, or give basic maintenance support. The same things have been broken since we’ve moved in regardless of multiple maintenance requests. If you have children (or are anyone that has basic living standards), I really suggest that you find somewhere else than this property. If price is the main thing- you can find somewhere that offers the same exact/better accommodations for less money. If you’re looking for a more lux environment, spend a couple more hundred dollars a month and you can find a much, much nicer space. I wasn’t able to look at this place in person before we had to sign a lease and I’ve never regretted anything more. Will be relieved when our lease is up.
The office staff is rude. They have no communication skills and only have the ability to read a list of rules instead of possessing the ability to address residents concerns. If you lease here just expect to pay rent....and be treated as a second class citizen .
Our walk through went very well the woman who had helped us answered all questions. And not to mention the floor plan with spacious and a well design. One thing I love the most is the gym and the pools, I can't wait to try them out

Thanks for your five-star rating! At Parkside at Laurel West, we are driven by our commitment to resident satisfaction. Thank you for taking a moment to commend our team member for her superior customer service. We look forward to welcoming you as a valued member of our community! Please don't hesitate to reach out if we can be of further assistance.
This place wasn’t that bad when we first moved in really. It didn’t start to go down hill until the AC went out and then it was around three months of contacting maintenance to “fix” the issue. When the it was all said and done they finally said they were going to replace the unit. They used an outside company called complete heating and air and on the day of the replacement the guys working on it accidentally flood our apartment. Not just a small amount of water... a lot of water. The. When I asked what happened I proceed to get attitude from the employee and we started to get in an argument. So when that whole ordeal was done they said they would dry the soaked carpet and floor... not replace... dry it. So we finally get that all taken care of the floor is awful at this point and it stains constantly. So we never get our “free cleaning” and we were told we would not be paying for the floors (as it should be) then a few months later we discover the carpet had began to mildew and mold... they replace the patch of carpet with a different colored patch of carpet and that was it. So when we go to move out we figured hey we won’t have to pay for the carpet that was ruined because of the company they hired. I was wrong. We get charged for carpet replacement for a ruined carpet due to “bleach stains”. I won’t be paying it. So don’t let your apartment bully you people. Especially if you pay your rent on time and have no issues. Oh and try not to live there if you can.

We will certainly utilize your valuable feedback to help us improve and better serve our residents moving forward, as we do with all feedback that we receive.
We moved in December and I got to say this is by far the best complex we've lived at. I've had a couple little problems like toilet running but it was fixed within hours of putting in the request. Im used to waiting a week plus for maintenance but not at Parkside. The office staff are always friendly and no matter what you throw at them they fix it and get back to you in a timely mannor. The neighborhood is very quite and very clean. The remodel looks awesome and for the price around here for what you get is hard to beat. Thanks Parkside for your exceptional service and accommodations.
Ive been living here now for three years and so farI've had nothing but positive experiences from it. The people who work in the great really friendly and helpful. You get access to three pools, gym, car wash, and small laundromat. The only really down side is the maintenance staff isn't the best at fixing things quickly.
They are spacious apts with very good size rooms and walkin closets. We have 3 pools to choose from on site and all are big with a variety of chairs, umbrellas and lounges. We have a great gym on site and also free membership to a popular gym. We have a free car wash on site and laundry facilities. Mailboxes are close by. We also have a choice of two large trash bins for trash. It is in walking distance to Dunkin Donuts, Bilio supermarket, CVS, Walgreens and mexican and chinese food. We also have a new playground and a bark park for your dogs to run free and play. Management is very helpful and the maintenance dept is great. A wonderful place to live with friendly neighbors.
The apartments are nestled within a bustling part of the city. The location makes it perfect for work and recreation. It is not far from major cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and Charleston. Three different locals in no time. The rent is reasonable and the staff is pretty friendly. Some of the older apartments need upgrades. Be sure to check the appliances before moving in (especially the stove and refrigerator). The windows tends to hold moisture leading to mold (this is also true of the closet and storage areas). Check and clean often to avoid problems. Parking availability depends on where you live. Not all neighbors are respectful enough to give at least one space. Ask your friends to park in overflow parking. More lights and walkways on grass can be added to alleviate the parking issues. Ask about peak control or plan to constantly manage your place against bugs (ear wigs, silverfish, multiplexes, and crickets) to name a few. Overall, ask for help and remember you can only expect so much from renting.
