Property Ratings at The Laurels at Jacaranda
This community is lacking great management. The gate that is suppose to be keeping the community secure has been broke for years and the sign was ran over but no one never fixed. Dog poop is always in the grass, on the stairs, in front of the apartment doors. Its always smelling like dog poop everywhere you go. The Maintenance on the building is atrocious and there is MOLD in there because management choose not to fix the situation. Now they are kicking multiple families out that have been paying rent on time and management doesn't care about the tenants. If I could give them a negative star I would. "DO NOT RENT HERE" because they do not care about tenants just about their pockets/rent.
The Laurels looked very nice when I was moving in, and the grounds are pretty and well-kept. However, in the brief span of just one year, my apartment experienced the following appliance failures: - washing machine - dryer - kitchen sink (leaked and sprayed everywhere and was unusable) - oven - thermostat - air conditioning unit (did not completely fail, but would take 10 hours to cool the apartment by 5 degrees) They use cheap 'Amana' appliances that upon failure, were replaced with identical, used appliances most likely from vacant apartment units. Their online portal worked well to report the issues, and aside from the air conditioning, their maintenance staff was relatively quick to fix problems. As such, I was going to silently move out and go my separate way, but what really compelled me to write this review, is that upon returning from working on an out-of-state assignment for a little less than two months, I noticed that my car had been towed away! They did not try to contact me in any way, and now I am facing hundreds of dollars in fees. So, I will say this - the Laurels is a great place to live IF you do not do any of the following: - clean your clothes - use a sink - cook/bake - care about the temperature/your electric bill - travel for any period of time There are even TWO pools to sit by and consider how you may go about getting your car back once it has been towed!

I currently reside at this place. I went this past Saturday to see if I could get an extra clicker for the gate. I was prepared to pay the extra $50 to get one (the lease states additional ones are $25). They told me they had to check with the manager and took my number down and said they would call me back. I never got a call back so I went to the leasing office on Wednesday afternoon (3 days later). I got there 2 minutes before 6:00pm and as I was reaching to open the door, they locked it. Seriously? The door is see thru and I could see the guy's shadow locking the door so I'm sure he could see me. Anyway, I knocked and a guy opened the door. I told him I was following up about an extra clicker. The guy said he was the manager and told me, "I don't give out extra clickers. I can't bend the rules for you because everyone wants an extra clicker. Due to fair housing rules I can't make an exception for you." The pedestrian door lock does not work and anyone can come and go as they please thru that door. What difference does it make if I have an extra clicker? They gave me 2 sets of keys when I moved in. Why not 2 clickers? Anyway, I told the manager no wonder people are leaving. It's because of the way they are treated. His response, "I'm actually at 96% occupancy." When I asked why no one called me back his response was "they should have known I don't give extra clickers." I have already contacted corporate. My lease clearly states I'm entitled to an additional clicker and there was really no excuse for the way I was treated. The manager was rude and condescending. To top it off, we won't be able to make our rent payments online anymore because they are getting rid of the online payment portal so now I'll be stuck handing my checks to the forgetful employees or the rude manager. I certainly don't want to renew my lease now which is up in September.
The apartments might look nice but the place is ran by idiots. There is a reason the property owner (greystar) is rated an F by the BBB. This place is not safe they only have 3 cameras at the entrance, someone keyed my roommates car and they were no help. Also for over a month the exterior lights on my whole building (building 5) would go out randomly, I had to escort my guests to their cars because it was so dark. To top it all off I submitted my last payment to them and they lost it, but they made a copy of the money order and tried to claim that Im still responsible for it. They sent me the copy they made so I can try to get a refund and issue them a new money order but they refused to pay the money order cancellation fee for the money order they lost.
The facility looks beautiful, great landscaping; however, after witnessing how a leasing agent spoke to a resident, I decided this was not the right place to live in, I figured if they talked to him like that, what would I get myself into. As I was leaving the facility, i then witnessed 2 vehicles rushing to get through the gate after what it looked to be a resident. 1 visit was all it took.
It was important for us to find a safe, quiet neighborhood with amenities we could really enjoy. The Laurels were exactly what we were looking for. This gated community is updated, spacious and beautiful. Maintenance is prompt and professional & the office staff are very helpful and friendly. The kids love having two pools and a playground (and the gym doesn't hurt either!). We also really enjoy having a screened in patio to keep the bugs out. Out of 10 apartments we viewed, The Laurels were definitely number one!
My complex is very unique. Apartments are known for being noisy and inconvenient, but at The Laurels it is very quiet. When inside my apartment I virtually never hear my neighbors, and when outside it is the same thing. Even on holidays like July 4th the residents remain quiet and decent. The Laurels is the kind of apartment complex that makes it hard to be inspired to buy a home, because it is such a comfortable environment.
This was actually one if the best communities I have been in surrounding the Plantation area. Plantation is a gorgeous area to live in. Great community to raise your children. The greatest asset to the Laurels is central park! Very close to the park, my kids would love this.
Staff is very helpful. Maintenance is great with emergencies. I'm not crazy about the gate though. Guests rush ahead when you swipe your card, this can cause an accident. Grounds are kept clean. Pictures on the website are accurate, although I've never ventured to find the dog park, but I'm sure it's there.
I love the complex amenities office staff ok. I love the maintenance staff. They work very hard!
