Central West End’s European vibe is on display everywhere you look, from the classic architecture and layout to the charming parks and gardens to the open-air cafes and bistros that line the streets. The most dominant landmark is the sprawling Forest Park with its trails, sports facilities, lush greenery, and famous zoo – it’s a perfect community backyard for the families and urban professionals who call CWE home. The neighborhood’s elaborate Halloween celebrations and Labor Day Greek Festival are immensely popular, drawing people from all over the city. Art galleries and performance venues are popular draws as well, and the neighborhood enjoys a healthy yet subdued nightlife scene.
While located at the heart of one of the region’s biggest cities, Central West End is mostly residential, with most of the landscape filled with single-family homes. Apartments tend to be very affordable, and rental houses tend to be quite reasonable as well.

Property Ratings at The Leonardo
Management couldn't be bothered about the residents. Our elevator has been broken for 2 months now and we live on the 9th floor. 2 weeks ago after not being able to hold off any longer on laundry, I was forced to drag my stuff all the way down from the 9th floor to the basement, only to discover just 1 out of 3 washers works and was already in use. Had to drag it all back up and come back down at midnight. It took 10 trips up and down the stairs and over 3 hours to get my laundry done. As of today, neither washing machine nor elevator has been fixed. Additionally, the building is poorly insulated. Our electric bill went from ~80 bucks/month in the fall to almost 300 because of this. This has become unbearable and it's worsened by the fact that management is mostly unresponsive. We will be following up with a lawyer.
This is an older building. It is also cheap. If you go to SLU, SLU Law, Wash U, Wash U Med or Law there is a bus right outside the door that takes you eastward to downtown and the SLU campuses and westward towards Wash U campuses. The building is across the street from a grocer. Had a few maintenance issues when I moved-in. Maintenance was swift. Before you move in make sure they clean under the hood above the stove. I made that mistake. Main issues would be how dated the place is, but that does not make the place unlivable. If you are in the city for a short amount of time or just started a new job and want to save money this is a good place to live. Live in a place with all the bells and whistles later. In summation: cheap and close to where you need to be.
The Leonardo, owned and managed by Asprient Properties, has been a good choice for my first apartment and experience of living on my own. The management company was very helpful in helping me find an apartment while I was searching remotely from Ohio. I had to find a place quickly to start a new job after graduation from school, and Asprient was very accommodating. The apartment I originally selected became unavailable 2 days before I was supposed to move and they company alerted me and told me about the situation. They offered to let me out of my lease and refund my money that I had paid, or move me in another unit in the building that had become available due to a work transfer of the previous tenant. The building is currently under construction but they are really good about timing the work so it does not cause any problems. The main downsides are the laundry room which is too small for the amount of tenants and the machines tend to be our of order a good amount of time, and unfortunately the apartment I have has some pretty ugly cosmetic defects like the kitchen counter tops which are covered in knife marks and the walls which were said to be painted before I moved in but have marks on them. Ultimately for the price, the location in Central West End and the conveniences with in walking distance of the building; it is a really great place to live. I would definitely recommend it to any person looking to lease their first apartment. The building has a good mix of students, young professionals, and older residents.
