Starkville is what you’d call a college town for sure. Home to a large student population focused on academics and sports, this city also houses numerous apartments near cool amenities. As you probably guessed, the gem of Starkville is Mississippi State University which is surrounded by bars, mom-and-pop eateries, boutiques, and bookstores.
When you live in Starkville, you’ll notice when the entire community gears up for game day. “Hail State” is a common greeting that echoes throughout the town, and it’s safe to say that a great deal of the community revolves around college sports like football. Locals, alumni, and visitors alike are often tailgating before a big game. On game day eves, New South Weekends in Starkville offer tons of activities from wine tastings to block parties.
MSU and surrounding neighborhoods have a lot of art and culture offerings. The Lyceum Series, presented by the university, features concerts, dance recitals, and musicals throughout the year.

Property Ratings at The Links at Starkville
If I could give a 0 star I would. They increase rent every year which is understandable but the amenities that we are paying for in that rent we can't use. The swimming pool has been out of order for the past two years with them saying they can't get anyone to come look at it. The roads are horrible that it has unbalanced my tires twice and the garbage dumpsters have trash all around them. I have a roach problem and it's not due to the uncleanliness of the apartment. They are everywhere. The management does not communicate with you at all unless they are wanting money. Then they threaten to throw you out. When the security that is living there is called, the county sheriff's dept makes it there before they do. There has been a shooting, robbery, and domestic violence's all within a few apartments of the one I have and no safety communication has been given to the residence... Do not waste your time nor money on this place
The apartments on the bottom have a bad termite problem and there are lots of drainage/leaking problems. Management seems strangled by "corporate" constantly... seemingly unable to get anything done in any kind of timely, appropriate or even sensible manner. I would rent elsewhere. But definitely come play golf here. The golf course is awesome.
Where to start, units are full of termites that eat through sheet rock and fly all over your apartment dying on everything. The management is absolutely awful they are not willing to help you with anything, the maintenance is very very bad when you call the office they tell you to submit a work order and the just mark it as complete 20 minutes after its been submitted. Then Building upkeep is awful holes in the walls mold, its absolutely awful. Not Recommended to anyone!!!
The management doesn't seem to get much done around here. I have had the same appliance stop working 3 times in 3 and a half months, and am still struggling with it. Said it cannot be replaced because it's fixable, even tho there are screws poking out of it.
I decided to move here as a second-year PhD student because three of my other classmates lived there and liked it. Immediately upon moving in I had a disgusting roach infestation (seeing anywhere between 8-20 roaches every day for at least a month) and per the fine print of the contract, the apartment did not have to claim any responsibility. As a grad student on a tight budget I paid about $200 of my own money between buying roach treatments and getting a hotel room for myself for two nights while this was happening. I also stayed with a friend a few nights and almost moved into a friend's apartment for the summer while they were home (I moved in at the beginning of July). I had roaches crawling out of my purse, in the dishwasher, on every cabinet, on my dishes, and one even ran across my leg in my sleep (try ever sleeping again after that!!). To make matters worse, July is one of the most intense months of my grad program so to have to deal with this on top of that was extremely draining and majorly affected my performance for my school duties. On top of that, my mom found lots of roach droppings in the pantry when I moved in and the carpet was so gross it crunched under my feet, and it took them weeks to come clean it (when they really should have replaced it). While management was good about answering/returning my calls, there was no sense of urgency whatsoever in alleviating these problems. I'm not a high maintenance person, but I did everything in my power to see about getting out of the lease, and once again the fine print of the contract locked me in for the year. I sucked it up and didn't necessarily have problems the rest of the time, aside from loud music late at night from neighbors below me and the one time there was a domestic dispute so loud next door that the police had to come at midnight and my whole apartment was shaking from the couple slamming things and yelling (thankfully I got to go home for the remaining four months of my lease). Finally, out of the $250 security deposit, I only got $40 back of it!! The only pros of this place were the great maintenance system and my really nice neighbors. But please, get the true value of your money and find somewhere else to live. I couldn't get out of here fast enough.
Reading over other reviews, i see most of the complaints are about losing deposit or not getting all of it back and about the cleaning costs... all of which is Detailed in the lease. Cleaning fees to be taken from deposit and all... And Understandably, just like most other properties i have seen, when you do not give a respective notice for moving out (Theirs is only 30 days!! most are way more) then yes, you forfeit that deposit.. Which is also way cheaper than most places! $250.... some places charge you more than that just the repaint or just to clean after you leave.. That is the Links deposit and for my apartment (PER THE LEASE) they only hold $165 for cleaning, painting, and carpet cleaning.... So i just recommend actually looking into things before Signing them, claiming you've been cheated, or complaining when it was literally laid out for you before you moved in... Why would you complain about the company actually cleaning or painting an apartment before you move in?. Great community and very family friendly. I have no complaints of any wrong doings since they did exactly as the lease stated..
Was told around 60 days before moving out that there was nothing else I needed to do till move out day. They are not returning my deposit because I didn't sign a form in time even though I was told I didn't need to. Said they couldn't do anything about. Save yourself some grief and go to a locally owned realtor and avoid these money grabbing corporations. We also issues with the apartment. The golf course was more important than the residents. They didn't think no AC in summer was an emergency. There was huge bug problems that they did nothing about. I've lived in Starkville for 5 years, so trust me when I say it is not worth it!! Avoid this place like the plague!
You will not get your deposit back. The itemized deductions that automatically are taken out are for cleaning ($60.00), painting ($60.00), cost of paint ($15.00), carpet cleaning ($60.00), and the replacement of drip pans in the stove ($15.00). Of the $250.00 deposit, that only leaves $40.00, which will automatically go to the water and trash company that The Links contracts with. These deductions are non-disputable regardless of the condition of the unit. The management in Starkville, as well as at Lindsey Property Management (their parent company), are non-responsive and dismissive.
To summarize: 1. Do not expect they would return much of your deposit regardless of the conditions of the apartment, if they would not ask for more. 2. You can always hear your neighbors, and make yourself heard, too. 3. For the internet and cable, your only choice is MaxxSouth, the worst and most expensive one in town. No DirectTV or dish, then ban that, too. 4. If you'd like to get out of the lease, the minimum amount you may lose is THREE MONTHS RENTS! 5. Endless ants. 6. Far far away from the mailbox and even further from the garbage station. 7. The gym opened late and closed early. 8. Rude staff. When I signed the lease, I met very nice staff. Then things changed fast. 9. No big dogs in the community even it is just your friends visiting you with their dogs. 10. It seems like a lot of residents do not pick up dog feces and no rules are against this behavior. So take care if you walk at night on the grass. 11. They use the lakes to water the grass, which makes the ground and even the wall of the house smell awful. 12. Rent rising every year.
The Links at Starkville sets on a Luxurious Golf Course surrounded by a Beautiful Lake and pond. The Apartment Complex has everything you need to live like a Queen or King. Golf Pro Shop to purchase all your golfing accessories, a Billiard Sports Room for Ping Pong and Pool. A Hot Tub and Sauna. Yes, a Tanning Bed, an Outdoor Swimming Pool, a Computer Center, A TV Room and how can you live without a Fitness Center that is accessible day or night. Each apartment has a Washer and Dryer for your convenience. The Buildings are solid brick and very Energy Efficient. I love our apartment. It is definitely a place I call home and our friend calls Buckingham Palace.
The Clubhouse or our office is run by a lot of different young adults in their early 20s. They don't particularly know how to handle certain situations and they are very nonchalant. If you are having some issues with the apartment, maintenance may see what the problem is and they may not, they have an unprofessional maintenance crew. The Apartment building itself is nice in some subdivisions and others the paint is chipped and the building looks aged. The walls are thin so you can hear someone walking in the apartment next to you, the door slamming when they are leaving or returning, also you can hear babies crying, if there are babies next to you. Also our streets are rugged with pot holes and broken up concrete and other areas are smooth. Our mailbox numbers are faded and you can barely see them. We have a pool that is fairly small and it is hovered by harassing horse flies. We have a jacuzzi that is separate from the pool and it is nice. Our ClubHouse is nice and we have a decent gym upstairs and we also have activities like pool, tanning bed and ping-pong to keep you occupied. We have ponds on the property and they are cesspools and when they get backed up you can smell it in the apartment and it smells of sulfur. We also have a golf course on our property. The apartment complex is five minutes away from the major shopping places such as Wal-mart and Kroger. Overall, It is a quiet and safe atmosphere to live in.
The Links os a beautiful place to live. The grounds are well kept. The staff members are friendly and very helpful. The amenities are great,:you have the use of tve business center, the fitness Center, tanning beds, resort style pool & Sun deck and unlimited golffing on a a beautiful golf court with no monthly dues or fees. My apartment is energy efficient and spacious. My place of residence has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and walk in closets. It comes with washer, dryer, Dryer, refrigrator, microwave, celing fans and central air. The apartment complex is conveniently located off main highways near several major stores great for shopping and only 25minutes from Mississippi State University. One of the main things i like about the Links is that maintence respone to repare request are ver y timely.
