If you live anywhere near the state of Alabama, you're probably already aware of what you'll find in Tuscaloosa: the University of Alabama (Roll, Tide!). As the oldest and largest university in the state, UA was founded in 1820. It is a top-ranking public research university and it has one of the winningest college football programs in US history. The Crimson Tide football team is part of the NCAA Division I SEC and has a total of 16 national championship titles.
And while there's more to living in Tuscaloosa than cheering on the home team at the Bryant-Denny Stadium, you'll probably want to pack your crimson and white. As a college town, Tuscaloosa has its fair share of off-campus housing and apartment communities, but you'll find there's plenty more to this dynamic city. Tuscaloosa is located along the Black Warrior River roughly 56 miles southwest of Downtown Birmingham. Tuscaloosa offers a variety of museums, theaters, shops, and restaurants to explore.

Property Ratings at The Links & The Greens at Tuscaloosa
Pros: - No credit requirement to move in. - My experience seems to be isolated, but my building and street has been calm and quiet the entire time I lived here. - Large parking lot and a lease that allows multiple cars per unit, this was great as a car enthusiast. - Management/Maintenance really doesn't bother you. - Convenient to 20/59 Cons: - BUGS! Quarterly pest control stopped sometime last year and the bugs moved in right after. Now you can only get pest control if you request it, they only come out once a week, and if they miss you or are too busy, too bad. - Mold: the AC system is completely full of mold. Cleaning the vents with bleach is a bandaid solution for poor preventative maintenance on the AC system. - Bad Internet: Fiber internet runs all the way down the street, right to the stop sign. The management company leases bandwidth from them and sells it to residents at a markup. I pay the same price for 1/10th of the speed. That's when it works, at least once a month there will be several hours where you don't have Internet. - Unfavorable lease: No subleases, horrible terms if you want to break your lease. Once they have you signed up, you're basically stuck. In summary: RUN! If you don't have to live here, don't. It's pricey for the area, units are slapped together, run down, and poorly maintained. Management keeps cutting back on basic maintenance and amenities to squeeze every dollar out of this place. This place is a great reminder to work hard so that you don't have to live here.
As other reviews have indicated, management here is horrible. They do not care about their tenants at all. Every time we’ve gone to them with an issue (which is a lot because there’s always something wrong) they act we’re causing them this huge inconvenience. It’s their job to provide functional and safe living spaces, which is the absolute bare minimum, and they aren’t even capable of doing that. Please live somewhere else. There are no benefits to this complex.
I moved into this apartment with high hopes. But as soon as I walked in, I was extremely disappointed. There were dead roaches everywhere in the apartment, and they kept appearing during the few days I stayed. Not only were there roaches, but the apartment was filthy: the stove, fridge, microwave, showers, sinks, windows, etc. But wanting this apartment to work for me, I cleaned everything up and didn’t complain. I didn’t complain all the way up until I saw mildew and mold. That was my breaking point. I told management, and they didn’t solve it. So I was forced to break my lease, and move. If you want to move to the Links, don’t.
DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!! I am staying in an overpriced executive suite as I relocated from Dallas Texas. I had planned in January to assess the area prior to making a permanent decision on residence but was hoping to just transfer into an apartment at this property if I liked the community. Needless to say it became clear from the very beginning I would not be happy here long term. The staff and management company are very shady, indifferent, and will nickel and dime you on every little thing, regardless of whether its ethical or “just”! , The customer service I have experienced has been the worst and that is saying a lot. I see sketchy characters rolling around the community at night. Security gate is more for appearances as it’s rarely closed and gives full access to anyone. Maintenance is slow with repairs and requests.
Pros - semi gated community - washer and dryer included - golf course is affordable to residents - near a lot of food places - Far enough away from the center of town to avoid downtown traffic while being close enough to get to campus and town fast enough if need be Cons - Management is horrible - maintenance is subpar - security is always changing companies and management is always making them conduct crazy new security checks - pool access is very strict even for residents Advice: If you really have to live here, pick the Greens over the Links. The property managers in my 4 year experience are generally nicer and more helpful at the Greens than the Links. They usually give the impression that they aren't too busy to help you.
There is some truth to a lot of the messages for the Links at Tuscaloosa. I was in the loop, in the know and received phone calls about my daughters apartment until they were called to the carpet. Next, they pretend they don't share information after they already had. If you point out their wrong doing they will all of sudden try to be professional. Tracy told me she was the manager after I asked her for her bosses information and then what's worse, she stated the owner will not answer your call. It is not hard to find out who the owner is, which I did. Ownership changes so much, that information is public record. Extremely poor management skills Tracy. As a manager it is your responsibility to make every attempt to resolve problems then customers will not have to go over your head. Delivering a message such as that is a good reason I will not select a place like this for any more of my family members attending UA and any other colleges in that area. The rating is below 1 star. I would not recommend this place.
DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. They are liars. Good looks on the outside, a sweet smile, and potential golf course membership makes this property SEEM attractive. Don't let them fool you. These people leave out details they know you don't want to hear. When you ask (because you have to ask specifically) they will dodge your question. They don't talk about all the thugs running around that place, or a shooting happening there, or that the security guard is complete or joke and the gate never works. Also, they make charges on your behalf without informing you. Instead, they slide the charge in some tiny prints attached to lengthy documents so you won't read it. Then, when you ask why, they tell you that they told you. I should've been smarter, but in the end, if you have to trick someone to do business with you, not tell them the entire truth, or straight up lie to get that person's business, then you shouldn't be in business. If you value where you live being safe, clean, uninfested, with helpful staff (pretty much any decent place) then this should be the last place you look.
Cats must be declawed to live at this site. Cat declawing is illegal in many countries and is considered to be a form of animal cruelty. Please do not support a complex which requires it's residents to declaw their cats.
The Greens of Tuscaloosa is a wonderful place to live your family or college students. It very quiet and safe for all ages. They have security on site day and night. The have two pools, hot tub, and two exercise rooms with the state of the art work out equipments. With the exclusive of tanning bed, steam room, golf course along with a food bar for those that playing golf or working out. You can choose from one bedroom to two bedroom with or without a balcony. You are able to purchase cable and WiFi on site. This is a great place to live if you like a friendly and safe place you or your family.
Apts are ok. They are in a pretty safe and quiet location. Convenient to restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores. Located about 15 mins from the university and 15 mins to the nearest shopping mall. Some amenities include golf course, clean swimming pool, hot tub, tanning room, pool room, media room, lake, and clubhouse you can rent out for parties. The Links also has 24 hour security. The downfalls include poorly informed office workers and higher rent prices. Also, the closer you are to the lake, the more bugs get into your apartment. Pest control comes out every Wednesday but it doesn't seem to help very much. Majority of the insects are spiders and water bugs (like giant roaches). There aren't any cameras around the buildings or parking lots which doesn't help if your car or apartment is broken into. There was also a string of break-ins in 2013, in which I don't believe any were solved. Overall, the staff is friendly, the security is helpful, and the apartment complex is very clean but if you don't want to pay a higher price for rent and are squeamish around bugs, The Links isn't the place for you.
The Greens in Tuscaloosa, Al is an excellent apartment complex for both students and families . The staff is very friendly and they make sure that their residents are their top priority. I've been here since February and I love everything about it. I love that the community is gated and they have security guards that are always on top of their job! My daughter and I feel 100% safe. I also love that the office is open 7 days a week for a full 12 hours. The Greens in Tuscaloosa, AL was not my first choice as I searched but now I know that it was my best choice.
Live on a 18 hole golf course. Two pools. Gated community. Very quite. Family oriented.
I enjoy the many amenities offered here at the Links! From free golf to the pools, fitness centers, tanning beds and tennis courts! It's great to live where you play!
I have been living here in a one bedroom for almost 3 years. This is a nice, clean, quiet environment. one reason why I chose this place because of the gated community, and the provided washer and dryer unit inside the apt. (can't find many apt. That provide this) , I felt that that rent was worth it. Although the rent increases each year without any added value to the apt community. I'm not hard to please so overall I'm satisfied and has signed another year lease but there are things that could be upgraded or changed to accommodate the price of the lease. There is only one cable company offered and it is over priced and not worth it.. Some of the amenities should be replaced and upgraded (possibly stainless steel) I have a problem with mildew occurring, but with the exception of those few things I like it here in my cozy one bedroom. I am a person that likes to get my dollars worth and there could be improvements if the rent is going to increase.
