Property Ratings at The Lofts at Elk Terminal
We have really enjoyed living at Elk Terminal and will be renewing our lease for another year. The property is well-maintained with a highly responsive maintenance team who are helpful. While we were maybe a little wary of the area before moving in, we have had no issues and feel very safe living here now. We love the proximity to downtown, canalside, and biking trails. I would recommend living at Elk Terminal to anyone I know!
Current resident and will not be renewing my lease. The area is becoming more unsafe. Always people hanging around outside on the streets either asking for money or just hanging around. An apartment was broken into a few months ago, and even with the camera systems, there still is that lurking security issue being close to the projects/casino. Building is starting to age with an eerie smell at times or water leaking through the ceiling/vents. Good luck getting your packages from anyone else besides USPS. Some Amazon drivers aren't able to access the gate system or know where to drop the packages off which leads to you having to search around the premises for packages. Surprised there isn't a secured mail room for residents in 2024. Last issue is having guests over. They are forced to park on the street, which has very minimal parking due to events. Management threatens residents who break this policy with towing vehicles and terminating your gate access code so you aren't able to re-enter the building on foot. Just make a few spots for guests as there are plenty of spaces, and figure out a solution that works for everyone. The place was great for a month but then you realize safety, management, and the building are not worth it. Look elsewhere as there are plenty of other newer complexes being built.

Your concerns regarding safety and the general condition of the building are alarming, and we take them very seriously. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention, and we wish you all the best in finding a new home that meets your needs. Warm regards,
After doing a lot of research about Downtown Apartments, I finally came to the decision that The Lofts at Elk Terminal was a great fit for me. I have now been here for almost a year, and I can honestly say I made the right decision! I love my unit and my dog (love they're pet friendly!!!) and I have been able to walk many places and enjoy many things downtown has to offer without having to drive. I only had one issue this past year (locked myself out of the apartment) and when I called the leasing company, First Amherst, they came right out to let me in!! Thank you, Elk Terminal & First Amherst! I will be renewing my lease for another year.
I have lived here for 2 years and have a completely different experience than the previous reviewer. Regarding the green space, we have way more than neighboring properties and we live in the city. What we have is more than sufficient and being down in the area we are, Canalside is 2 blocks away that has tons to do!! It gives a true city experience. The set up of the lofts creates a real sense of community especially in the warmer months because people are outside enjoying the weather in front of their lofts grilling. If looking for downtown, city living with a community feel this place is for you. I am unaware of the random checks and lost packages, but have never felt unsafe living here and look forward to many more years here! In fact, what brought me to this website to even see the review was I was having a friend from out of town who is moving here look at the property.
I have lived here for 6 months. The company First Amherst is one of the smallest leasing companies in Buffalo. The website shows green space, gated living and advertises a fitness center. The green space is one little patch of grass (approx. 8ftx15ft) only accessible to one section of apartments out of 4 in the complex. The gated part is true for 3 out of 4 sections of the complex. Packages have been reported stolen to the company approximately 10 times and they have done nothing. Not even a $50 box with a lock. My neighbors have told me they go into their apartment unannounced and even though they are probably legally able to who wants that? The Chicago street side is not gated. There are suspicious people constantly coming up on the shared patio space and that is a little worrying. The finishing's inside the apartment are nice but that is about it. Do your research on the company and ask a lot of questions before committing to anything.
