Situated in western New York on the cusp of Lake Ontario, Rochester holds the title of the state’s third most populous city. Touting a distinct blend of history and innovation, Rochester is filled with historic buildings turned modern lofts and apartments. The University of Rochester as well as Rochester Institute of Technology both contain leading research programs, lending to the city’s educated workforce and prospering future. Prominent figures like Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass once called Rochester home.
Even though it’s a fairly large city, Rochester still holds a small-town vibe. Rochester offers several community events that are widely attended, including the Lilac Festival and the Rochester International Jazz Festival.
The Strong Museum, Memorial Art Gallery, and the George Eastman Museum all feature special exhibits that inspire curiosity. Scenic views await at Highland Park, and residents adore their day trips to the Seneca Park Zoo and Seabreeze Amusement Park.

Property Ratings at The Lofts at Michaels-Stern
I LOVE this place and cannot recommend it enough! A lot of the older reviews of this building have concerning and valid points but management has made a lot of improvements in the last year (2023). There is a new elevator that always works. The building is secure and you need a key fob to get anywhere. There is a security guard in the building and all mail is in the secured lobby. There is no loitering in the building these days. The leasing agent, Kamilah, is very kind, professional, and responsive. My neighbors are wonderful, quiet and considerate. The apartments are beautiful industrial lofts with large windows and ceilings that are so high that the pictures do not do them justice. The location is in the heart of downtown and rent includes a spot in a nice nearby parking garage. The only downside is that there is a massive bus terminal down the street so there are a lot of characters on the block sometimes. Somewhat standard for downtown loft living.
Living here is horrible. The "private tenant entrance" elevator has been broken down for over a year (almost two) and the public elevator breaks down on a regular basis turning this building into a 7 floor walkup. If you cannot do the 7 flights of stairs on a regular basis I do not recommend living here at all. Some noise is to be expected but the walls are so thin you can hear everything your neighbors do. There is no soundproofing at all. They have upped security after multiple assaults and other serious security incidents. This place should be a last resort.
