Downtown Macon is probably best known as the home of Mercer University. But there's much more to this historic, Southern gem than that -- Downtown Macon is home to a variety of unique museums, several Antebellum Homes, and the state's oldest church. Macon, nicknamed "The Heart of Georgia" because of its central location, began with Fort Benjamin Hawkins in 1809. Some of the historic homes include the impressive Hay House, built in 1855. The Italian Renaissance Revival mansion is open for tours as well as a popular location for weddings. The Cannonball House and Museum, built in 1853, is the only house in Macon to be hit by a cannonball during the Civil War.
Located along the Ocmulgee River, Downtown Macon is as picturesque as it is historic. It is also a college town, so you'll discover a variety of funky shops, art galleries, coffee shops, and restaurants.

Property Ratings at The Massee Apartments
Tiffany and the rest of the staff helped me with everything I needed in a very timely manner. The location is great, right near Mercer and the rest of downtown. It also has easy access to the interstate leading to the rest of Macon. Plenty of parking in a gated lot around back. College Street is wonderful and does not have any of the issues most people associate with Downtown Macon. My one bedroom had plenty of space and was a wonderful area for any college kids or young professionals.
I co-signed a one-year lease on an apartment on behalf of my son; I live far away from Macon. His circumstances changed within one week of moving in, and he had to vacate. Tiffany was extremely compassionate and understanding of the circumstances, and waived the minimum extra 2-month payout stipulated in the lease, as well as half of the cleaning fees upon my requesting to terminate the lease. She also helped personally in making some local phone calls that I did not have contacts for. She went above and beyond, going the extra mile, to help me and my son out. I cannot say enough good about Tiffany's caring and kindness!
I've lived at the Massee for almost 3 years now and I love it. Tiffany and James are the best leasing managers I've ever experienced. They're always prompt, kind and willing to work with your needs. I always feel heard when I talk to them. The apartments have a ton of charm and I've made tons of friends with my neighbors since living here. Everyone is kind and helpful and there's a definite sense of community here. Maintenence is always fast and responsive. The landscaping here is beautiful. This is a wonderful place to live.
I have been living in the Massee for 6 years now and never had any issues with the other residents or staff. The property is maintained, and any requests made are promptly fixed. For the location the pricing is fair, ideally located and they are always looking to improve features offered within the building as well as aesthetics. Recently refurbished the elevator for a cleaner and modern feel, installed new laundry machines as well as a vending machine for those late night cravings.
I lived in this apartment when I worked night shift. It was always quiet and peaceful, I never heard my neighbors, I swear the walls are made of concrete. The hard wood floors were so easy to clean. There’s a laundry room down in the basement so you don’t have to buy your own, they are super well kept too. I had neighbors of all ages so it was nicely diverse. The maintenance staff were quick and always polite when I was making requests; they really know the building. If you are looking for a view of the city, this is the tallest point you’ll get, you can see sunsets and sunrises. It was truly magical living here. 5/5 I have no complaints about this historical beauty.
I can't explan enough how much I love this building. What the building lacks in a gym or pool, makes up for in old architecture charm and great management! The view from my balcony is amazing! Off street parking is a plus!
Parts of downtown Macon can be kind of sketchy, so coming from a current tenant, I feel very secure in this building. Doors have cameras and require codes to get in. Staff is usually very quick to handle any maintenance needs. Everybody living in the building has been kind and courteous to me. I would recommend this building to anyone lookling to stay in the downtown area.
The new management has really turned this building around! They are quick to repair any maintenance issues in my apartment, and have restored a lot of the original fixtures in the building from when it was originally built! It's in an amazing neighbourhood, and walking distance to downtown, my husband and I always walk down to the restaurants on Cherry Street. Highly recommend
