If you're looking for that cozy, small-town feel interspersed with the excitement of a big city, then Wilmington is the place for you. Located in the northern-most portion of Delaware near the Pennsylvania border and close to the city of Philadelphia, PA, Wilmington has plenty to offer no matter what your age or interests. The specific neighborhood of the city that's best for you can vary based on your budget, but some of the more popular neighborhoods include Trolley Square (which is known for its beautiful architecture) and Bradywine Park (which is dotted with lovely parks and nature trails).
If you're the artsy type, you'll love visiting the Delaware Art Museum, located on Kentemere Parkway. Here, you can enjoy viewing work from local and globally known artists ranging anywhere from the mid 1800s to present day. Be sure to visit plenty throughout the year, though, as they're always featuring new exhibits and galleries.

Property Ratings at The Mayfair Apartments
My first week at The Mayfair, the police had to be called in over a physical and verbal altercation between residents and their dogs. A few weeks later someone broke the glass in the main entrance door. The apartments are pretty good for the price, esp with utilities, the building is pretty clean and the laundry facilities good. The management is lackluster and you have to follow up -- the keys weren't ready on closing date, I had to ask repeatedly for a copy of my completed lease, they didn't enter me in to the building directory. Noise regulations aren't followed and some residents are REALLY bad about noise, including blaring music and barking dogs.
Huge inconvenience living here and some of the staff in the main office are rude. Maintenance is nice but the office staff need to check their attitudes. Little to no notice when entering the apartment homes. And to make matters worse…your car can be broken into, towed, ticketed or involved in a random hit and run from parking just outside the apartment. Mold definitely grows on the walls each summer since their AC units are always breaking. I would never suggest living here
I scheduled a tour over the phone to look at a unit. The day of the tour, I got a confirmation call from the leasing office. I called them back as I was viewing other properties when they called. I spoke with one of the ladies over the phone and confirmed my tour time. She said that everything was good and the tour was still on. When I got there for my scheduled tour, nobody was at the office and it was closed! I called the main office three times, rang the door bell (office is locked and you have to dial it through the intercom system to get inside). No answer and no movement inside the office. Waited a few minutes as well just to see if anyone would show up, but they did not. Extremely unprofessional and I was disappointed that I wasted my time. I left and will NOT be back. By the way, I never got a phone call after that from anyone, no apology, not a word! Also, street parking is a major pain here. There is no surface lot. I can imagine people coming home from work and not being able to find a place to park due to limited space.
This place is a dump! Management is insensitive to what tenants want or need. Heat is always turned off even on coldest days."Includes utilities" what a joke, we've spent days without hot warm. Maintenance does a good job.... when they get around to things. Units are not all updated and are not as shown in the pictures. Save yourself the grief and look elsewhere.
If you like poor management, slow maintenance, and outdated and gross living quarters the Mayfair is the place for you! The wood floors are stained with discoloration from being installed in the 60's. It appears as though no renovation work has ever been done to any part of the apartment. My dishwasher is falling apart and the apartment was left with years of filth when we moved in. The sink and tub clog constantly and maintenance is slow at best. The place echoes with the sounds of other people around you. Every last part of the place is gross. Literally stained with grime. The gym is junk and the equipment is falling apart. They will raise your rent without providing any direct improvements. Packages are never delivered and often locked out of reach. Only recently did they add a package room. The manager is the worst. She will never interact with you unless it is to complain, charge you late fees or tell you they exterminators coming. Oh yeah the place has bug and mice! I set traps in the inter as they climb out of the heating vents. The laundry down stair requires cash on a card they provide and it is never convenient. The washer loads are small and the dryers never dry on one cycle. This pace is an AVOID AT ALL COST situation. Simply horrible. Altman Group is not concerned with your happiness or well being, only turning a dollar in their favor.
I really love living at the Mayfair. Sue, the leasing agent is always professional and makes time to talk to residents. She's really considerate and helpful. Justin is always professional and often goes above and beyond as the maintenance man for the Mayfair. Whenever he has to fix anything in my apartment, he always cleans up after himself. They both always have the best attitudes!
I have been living here going on 2 years and am very happy in this community. The location is greatly convenient and close to everything from entertainment to pharmacies. The people here are great! Management is in tune with the residents and works to make sure that you are a priority. Great teamwork between management and maintenance. I am very proud to be a resident at the Mayfair and hope to be here for a long time!!
I have been a tenant going on my 4th year. In that time - we have gone through 4 managers. Thank you Altman for coming in and taking over and making such an amazing difference. Never have to wait for responses or concerns. The new apartment manager could not be more pleasant or helpful. If you want a wonderful apartment, great area and amazing staff - this is the place for you!!!!! Keeps getting better and better.
Property Manager at The Mayfair Apartments, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your wonderful review. We love our residents and appreciate that you call The Mayfair your home!
7 months ago Altman Management Co took over. If you are thinking of moving into the Mayfair Apts, do not. Wait until Altman is no longer in charge. No concern whatsoever about complaints, refusal to provide heat even on the coldest days (advised to purchase a space heater even tho heat is included in rent), no snow/ice removal and poor quality "updates" to units. Sue, current manager, more concerned with cosmetic embellishments than actual repairs or providing a quality living experience. I no longer even contact management with concerns as it is more frustration than anything else. Save yourself the aggravation and rent somewhere else.

We are sincerely sorry that your home with us fell short of expectations. The happiness of our residents is paramount to our team, and it is disappointing to hear that you have been less than satisfied to date. If there is anything our team can do to improve your stay, feel free to give us a call or stop by the office.
I have experienced a few issues, such as mice during the winter and once a bat. There is only one maintenance man who works his hardest to keep all three buildings in tact. Management is rarely around due to management changes. Making your apartment your own is the best advice.
These charming, spacious apartments are in the perfect location for anyone working or going to school in the area. It's close to Trolley Square for dining, nightlife, and shopping, but far enough away to avoid the crowds and parking problems. The apartments themselves are large, with great original features and charm. The neighborhood has a great residential feel and everyone is friendly.
I absolutely love it here. Spacious rooms, hardwood floors, updated appliances and a wonderful view of the City of Wilmington - breathtaking at night and early morning. This is a secured building and visitors must use phone in lobby to call so you can beep them in. Maintenance is available 24/7. The common areas are well maintained and the staff is wonderful. Also right by Rockford Park, a great park to run/walk and down the street from Wilmington and Trolley Square and 1/4 mile form I-95 exits North and South. All inclusive rent includes heat, hot water, air conditioning - just pay cable if you choose. I feel lucky to be here.
I have lived her for almost a year and love it. The apartment is a great value for the rent. The office and maintenance staff are very helpful, pleasant and professional. All appliances and in good condition - I have had no problems and highly recommend this apartment community.
