About The Merrick
The Merrick is an urban oasis right in the middle of the close-in east side action with ample opportunities to explore Portland's other fun and funky neighborhoods. From the Merrick's rooftop lounge you can see the Moda Center (go Blazers!), the twin glass spires of the Convention Center, several bridges, and the downtown Portland skyline. Walk past the beautiful stonework and reflection pool in our courtyard, hang your keys on the hook by the door, and kick off your shoes because You. Are. Home. The Merrick didn't miss a detail with 10-14ft vaulted ceilings, oversized windows with views of the Portland waterfront, an on-site strength and fitness studio, a rooftop terrace with lounge furniture and spa, and underground parking.

Property Ratings at The Merrick
Management does not care about you. You will complain and ask about an issue over and over and they will push it off over and over. Stay away.
We had a fantastic time touring the apartments, and the realtor lady was very clear about prices and options. what was weird was she kept pushing an option out of price range with vaulted ceilings, when she had listed about 4 inside our range that were perfect for us. When we went to apply we found out why-not only had the style of apartment we had been looking out, which had several available, have no availability, but all the prices had gone up at least $300 anyway. The only thing actually available was the apartment with vaulted ceilings. Just be honest! No reason to lie about prices or availability.
Lived here 3 years. This place goes to great lengths to create an aura of modern high-end living, but it's all thin window dressing on a very poorly constructed building. The walls and ceilings are very thin, and every footstep above you is magnified as the acoustics are similar to living inside a drum. Doors will slam all summer with unit-shaking intensity as an open window will create this weird air-flow dynamic. While the staff is amiable, the tenants are a different story. There is constant abuse of the trash rooms, dog poop in the stairwell, fire alarms pulled in the middle of the night on a monthly basis, and the kind of person in the gym who loads all the weights onto the bench press bar and drops it as loud as he can. With the thin walls, this is a supremely obnoxious amount of aggressive noise and it's highly stressful. Your rent will increase at a steady clip, greatly exceeding than what a new tenant will pay for the same sized unit.
I found an apartment for rent in the building and moved forward the same day, the online leasing system is very easy to get through and any questions I had was quickly answered by phone call. I have just moved in and so far its been great, very happy with the rental price and the location. At this point I would recommend the building highly.
These apartments aren't cheap. But neither are any apartments that are right on the MAX line, close to downtown, with washer/dryer in unit, that allow pets, etc. The floor plan is nice and open, with lots of light. The appliances are newer and work well. There's a hotel-style air conditioner/heater unit in the living room. For some reason, the heater runs up my electric bill, but not the a/c so much. The office staff here are all nice, fun, and most importantly, competent. There isn't much of a neighborhood feel in the area, but if you'd rather have that, pay the same price for a smaller apartment with fewer amenities up in Nob Hill. I've lived here almost a year now, and am renewing my lease, so that should say something.
