Property Ratings at Metropolitan West Chester
I’ll be straight forward, pricing isn’t bad, but it’s NOT worth the headache or quality. Showering sucks because one minute the temperature is fine, then it suddenly becomes scalding hot to the point of had burns on my body to freezing cold! Parking is a nightmare since they don’t tow people like they claim they do, so lots of people park here especially for events in town. There’s always broken glass and garbage in the lots and in/ around the buildings. It’s quit dirty here. Lots of drug use and people fighting. If you drive your vehicle will get damaged and since there’s no cameras the office doesn’t care and won’t do anything about it. The maintenance guys are great, but fair warning… nothing is new here, all appliances are used and when you move in, do a deep cleaning because these people do not do that! They claim there’s quiet hours, but there’s not… there’s not much reinforcing of policies unless it impacts the office…. They don’t really care about the residents. There are far better places to rent from than here!
I moved to this wonderful place on August 1, 2020 and strongly recommend it to anyone. Anthony and Danielle were available to show me the apartment, answer any questions and helped navigate the move in details. They both showed professionalism and kindness for the many questions I had, and always made me feel welcomed! The living experience here is tranquil, lovely, clean, and service requests handled with ease. This property is the place to be!
You will be nickled and dimed for everything when you move out. We were charged for broke window screens. The screens were about 3-5 feet from the ground and were subjected to all types of weather over 3 years. We were charged $75 for broken screens. We got none of our $500 security deposit back with total charges of $1068 which we got down to $681 after finding mistakes in their charges. Also my friends who lived there had multiple bats come into their apartment. West Chester is a beautiful town with a lot to offer, you can do much better than living at a place like the Metro
Horrible management. Their priorities are all over the place. Fire alarms will go off or power will go out and they won’t tell you anything unless you ask. I found human waste in my washer and they barely cared but sent out a memo about a BROOM on my balcony. Obnoxious. Not worth the money.

Just tried applying to rent at this complex. I have 2 pit mixes who are small and very well behaved. I have sign off letters from vets saying they are non aggressive along with all vaccinations. I spoke with leasing agent and explained this to them the situation. They asked me to send a picture as they do make exceptions. Almost immediately I was emailed back saying they are rejected. I then called to speak to property manager to ask for their reasoning. I was told they look too much like pits and they would not be allowed on property. The property manager was the rudest and most unprofessional person I have spoken with. Why even state we make exceptions?? Especially with all the credentials we were offering. Property manager then proceeded to hang up on me. If you are looking for any kind of customer service in a rental complex stay far away from here!!

Hello, We are sorry for the miscommunication. Unfortunately we have to adhere to our breed restrictions. We do not make exceptions for some breeds. I am sure you have nice dogs but we don't allow Pit Bulls or mixed Pit breeds. I did not speak with you but I am happy to further discuss the situation if you would like to contact me. My experience with the Metropolitan apartment in West Chester was terrible and traumatic. Back in 2011, I just got married and moved to the Metropolitan apartment in WC. My husband and I stayed for one year. In 2016, I received a letter from dept collector stating that I owed $502 from the Metropolitan apartment. I attempted to reach the manager for several times. I wanted an explanation as to why I owed the money and also I never received a letter or a receipt from the Metropolitan apartment stating that I owed them. Well, the first time I called, I spoke to a lady and explained what happened she said that she would call me back and she never returned my call. The next time I called somebody hanged the phone on my face. I eventually paid dept collector. And by the way, dept collector described the reason for the $502 for Dirty Carpeting. For the first time in my adult life, I had one report as deliquent on my credit report thanks to the Metropolitan apartment in West Chester, PA. Be aware of the Metropolitan Apartment in WC.

We apologize for the negative experience that you had with the metropolitan after move out. There is a standard procedure that is followed that provides each previous tenant with their move out settlement in a timely manner. We have recently improved this further by sending the settlement to their forwarding mailing address, as well as their e-mail address(es). Metropolitan would like the opportunity to discuss this with you. Please contact us at 610-793-3300. Thank you!
They are rude and treat you like cattle. They only want money and could careless about tenants. I've known alot of people that have lived here and none of them left happy, including myself. Everything kept breaking in the apartment and they signed off on $400 worth of equipment that never came in the mail. They were to lazy to check all the packages they received to make sure everything was there. But somehow it was our loss because they didn't do their job.
They smile and say w/e to get you to rent. Towards end of lease, they are BRUTAL, UNFAIR, Margaret is TERRIBLE. Charged me $250 for a parking pass that slipped in between windshield and dash. Passes probably cost 5 cents to make. Water shut off non stop, no room to park when snows!
This is one of the worst place, I have ever lived in my whole life. Staff including manager is extremely rude. If you request some work , they don't come and fix the problem. Very bad place to live. Unfriendly staff especially manager. They don't complete maintenance order. If there is anything like zero star , I would give them that
This place was a nightmare to start. Hidden fees everywhere, smallest apartments for insanely high prices. RUDE staff!!!! They were so pushy with us that it completely turned us off. We decided to not get the apartment after all and then got a very rude and unprofessional email saying we wasted their time. I'm sorry I don't want to commit a year of my life in a place where I'd be miserable, with a company that is completely money hungry. Terrible customer service! Stay far, far away!
The Metropolitan is a terrible place to live. All they care about is making money. I had a bad experience when I lived there. Stay away from this place.
The apartments are pretty pricey per square feet, even for WC. It's noisy, especially on the weekends with the college students living here. There is inadequate noise insulation and yes - you can hear everything the neighbors are doing and often saying. The pool was GROSS this summer with green water and slippery liner. So glad I didn't pay the extra pool fee for that. Maintenance group is great and responsive when you need them. Never had a problem with them. The office staff could use some lessons in being attentive and polite. Seems like all the really outgoing and helpful staff leave - and what happened to Adam? - loved him- after three weeks of being told he was out of the office, I figured out he was gone. Angel and Sandra try hard but .... meh. The manager Marge is less than approachable and can be downright argumentative...not so good for customer service. Old paint, ancient rugs, squeeky, wobbling stairs and railings, smelly entrances from water damage are negatives. Partially repaved parking areas, well kept grounds and clean common areas are positives. Still doesn't add up to the best bang for your buck. The Metro WC could use a total facelift.
As far as the area goes, this is one of the most afordable apartments we were able to find. Kitchens are decent size, plenty of cabinet and counter space. No dishwasher, but plenty of counter space to dry dishes. Would love the apartment 10x more if there were a washer/dryer in unit or at least non-coin operated machines on site. Amazing amount of closet space for 2 people. About a 10/15 minute walk to downtown West Chester. Much more quiet than being closer to the college campus and permit parking with plenty of spaces.
The Metropolitan is a great place to live! The place is always kept really clean, the grounds are beautiful which include private courtyards, a pool, and even a free gym. The management and maintenance are also really great as they are quick to respond to any problems and they take care of the issue immediately. SInce it's just a few blocks from downtown West Chester it's like living in the city with a suburban feeling. I absolutely love living here.
Upon moving to a brand new state, I was unaware what I was getting myself into by moving to a town where the rent is almost double the surrounding areas. Close to city center, bars, restaurants I thought "Wow, this is the perfect place for me!" Upon finding a "reasonably" priced apartment in the area I soon realized my new life fairytale had a dark side. West Chester University in session the complex is more like a frat party, walls so thin you can actually hear your neighbors using the "facilities" and even more disturbing...doing "the deed." You take a step from one even floorboard and you think your going to fall through to the downstairs apartment. Uneven floorboards, smelly old hallways, getting to know your neighbors way too well, all I can say is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION...is not everything unless your willing to settle and pay up.
Walls are thin. The floorboards are old so you can feel the dips in the floor. University is nearby, so you can expect loud weekend nights in the apartments.
This is my 2nd year living here and I do like it. We have never had any problems. Office staff is nice, friendly and they always remember who you are and what apartment you live in if you ever need to talk to them about anything. Maintenance is fast and efficient you never have to wait for anything tone taken care of. The only complaint is the rent is definitely higher than it should be, but that is what you get for living this close to the borough.
I have lived at the Metro WC for 3 yrs now. I do NOT agree with the reviews that I've read on here. Perhaps the reviewers are a few of the "evicted" folks who didn't keep up with the rent or were just disgruntled. While the units are older than some out there, the Maintenance staff, Office staff especially Adam and Sandra and the groundskeepers are friendly and attentive. There is noise everywhere you live, and BTW the Metro does NOT rent to college students...a few Graduate level students live here, but we've never heard a peep out of them. Whenever there is an issue with water or power or laundry, an EMAIL is sent to all residents detailing the issues and timeframes for resolution...perhaps those who are complaining, never read them. Renovations are ongoing, and several of the apartments have already been redone - top to bottom. For the price and the location, you can't do much better. I enjoy living here, in our friendly, safe and attentive complex! I have recommended this complex to friends and family, and will continue to do so!
Property Manager at Metropolitan West Chester, Responded To This Review
The Metro DOES now rent to undergrads. This reviewer is giving false or out of date information.
I usually don't write reviews but this place has been getting slammed on here and I felt like I needed to add my two cents. I've been here for about three or four years now, and I really enjoy this place. I don't know what this reviewer is talking about with "being out of water for days": as far as I understood from the office email that was sent to us, there was an issue with the boiler or something. How quickly do you expect them to fix an issue that just happened? If it's not that then it has something to do with the renovations in the apartments and it's only off for an hour and a half max during hours when I'm not home (usually between 10 A.M. and 1 P.M.). Anyway, I've found the office staff to be pleasant and very helpful. I was sad to find out that Suzanne left, but Margaret is growing on me. She seemed a little gruff at first, but she's nice once you talk to her a little bit more. Adam is great and so helpful (I'm so glad he's back again) and Sandra is a sweetheart. Steve and the maintenance staff are always great and there's never been a time where I've had to wait an extreme amount of time to have something fixed. For the price and location, this place is fantastic and much better than some of the other locations I've lived in this town. I'd recommend it to anyone asking.
this place is awful. the management does not care about you at all, and you will often spend days at a time without running water. things will break and they will take days to get back to you, and there is not nearly enough parking for everyone who lives here. the price isn't terrible for west chester, but this place isn't even worth the value. oh and the 1980s paint color and carpets? barf.
Seriously when I first moved in it was wonderful. The property manager Suzanne was amazing and on top of her job! Adam and Samantha in the voice were so kind ALL the time. Marty a gentleman who cleans the building is such a sweetheart and goes above and beyond. I don't know when the change in management occurred but its horrible now. Samantha and Suzanne are completely gone. Margret the new manager and rude and extremely unprofessional. I seem to always miss Adam but I here he is still there. The smoke in the hallway is horrible. The college students on the weekends are outrageously noisy. This company should really focus on keeping quality staff.
When you first tour the Metropolitan at West Chester, you may be tempted to be lured in by the generously sized one bedroom and the proximity to the borough of West Chester. Don't be fooled. There are other nicer properties within steps of this location. We were looking to be close to downtown West Chester and moved in last fall. We're now counting the days until our lease is over so we can leave! This property is not managed well. Maintenance requests have to be submitted several times and the office staff is not responsive regarding the status. When you raise a concern, you get treated poorly. Instead of trying to find resolution the property manager is rude and accusatory. Every occasion I’ve had to address a concern, I’ve been met with rolling eyes and heavy sighs. I’ve experienced better customer service at McDonalds. And that’s not the only issue! The property is kept filthy!! The carpet on the floor is dirty and stained. But what’s worse is that the hallways always reeks of cigarette smoke. It’s sometimes so dense, that it will irate your eyes. When we moved in, we were lead to believe that residents were instructed to smoke outside. That’s just not the case. Multiple people on our hall smoke habitually. And the smell doesn’t’ just stay in the hall, it lingers in through the vents and our curtains, brand new couch and clothing smells of the foul odor. For two people who don’t smoke it’s beyond disgusting. This has been addressed at least three times and no action has ever been taken. The property manager told me “Well people are allowed to smoke”. My only suggestion is to save your money and look at a nicer property. Saving money isn't worth the hassle we've encountered.
