Lake Jackson, a popular boating and fishing destination, lends its name to the neighborhood that extends southwest from its south shore. With its narrow, tree-lined streets and ample park space, the Lake Jackson neighborhood resembles a resort area. But this lakeside community is only six miles north of Downtown Tallahassee, making it convenient to Florida State University and Florida A&M University.
Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological Park is a major feature of Lake Jackson. The park contains earthen temple mounds, two of which are open to the public. The park also offers hiking trails, historic remnants from the mid-1800s, and a picnic pavilion. The earthen mounds date back to 1100 AD, with the largest mound measuring 278 feet by 312 feet and reaching 36 feet high.

Property Ratings at The Oaks at Lake Jackson
We’ve lived here the better half of 5 years. We’ve seen 3 different management companies come through. The outside of our complex looks really nice. And from talking to people they’re really improving the insides as people move out. Honestly, Ms. Amber is the first person I’ve felt comfortable enough talking to. She resides here so she has a vested interest and actually seems to care about our concerns as residents. You’ll never have someone who is 100% happy. But since the new company has signed on, we’ve been very surprisingly happy. We’ve even been trying to get friends to sign on. And I’ve never done that in the 5 years we’ve lived here until now.
Don’t let the pictures fool you. The apartment they show you is NOT the one you will get. Since living here we have been in several units, ours and several neighbors. None of them are the same and they all are terrible. If you are desperate (we were) it will do until you are back on your feet. I’m not complaining just to complain. PLEASE be sure you see your actual unit before you sign.
We lived here for 4 years, during which management/ownership changed at least once. We moved out at the end of August. The current "management" is trying to bill us over $350, claiming that we painted the counters in the kitchen. We never painted the counters in the kitchen. "Management" says we didn't state on the move-in checklist that the counters were painted. Why on earth would we have notated this? Moving in as brand new tenants, how could we have possibly known that they weren't supposed to be painted, in order to make a special notation of it? I find it absolutely outrageous that they want to bill us for shortcomings of previous management (since they were obviously renting out apartments that weren't up to whatever standard was supposedly in place). Four years we rented here, just to be dealing with this nonsense now. Avoid this place at all costs, it just isn't worth it. If you do decide to rent here (which you shouldn't), take lots of photos and video of the apartment as soon as you get the keys. (But again, you should really just avoid this place completely. I sure wish we had.) They won't deal with drug dealers trespassing on the property at night, they won't do any maintenance unless it's to the exterior of the buildings, they ignore the policies listed on the site. Save yourself the headache.
Yes, it is an older apartment complex, but has had a lot of updating. I can say that the staff are very friendly although they have a job to do & stay on top of things. Haylee is great! Booker is the nicest person & always ready to help a tenant out with repairs. I love the location & the peaceful setting & quiet neighborhood. The workout area is small but, kept clean & usually pretty much to yourself. I really enjoy living here. My only issues are.... 1. the pool temperature being so warm that it is not enjoyable. A fountain would cool that water off nicely! Also, too warm of water is a bacterial haven. 2. All tenants should be required to have monthly pest control. 3. We have been trained in Tallahassee to Recycle. It is the right thing to do for preserving our land. But they only have a dumpster ( that compacts trash) A Recycle bin should be in place. Also, a lot of kids are bringing the trash to the dumpster but cannot reach the door (for safety) so a dumpster for handicapped & children would be nice .
There are several negative reviews on here, but I never had an issue. Any time I had a problem with the apartment, Hanna was quick to resolve it. The office staff and the maintenance men are very helpful and they keep you informed of what is going on in the "neighborhood". Yes, the apartments are older and there will be problems here and there, but you cannot discredit the employees that work there. They try to correct any issue as fast as they can. This complex is also ideal for families with smaller children. There are a lot of children at this complex. During the summer the pool is always full and you will see kids riding around the parking lots on their bikes.
The only reason I gave this 2 stars is due to the location and the friendly staff. All of that is great, however, these are very old apartments in a wooded area and with that comes trouble. This place is absolutely infested with German roaches and has lots of problems (think mold). Sure pest control is included but what they don't tell you is that it is not mandatory so while you may have the cleanest apartment in the complex and get the bait & traps weekly it doesn't matter because there are 7 other units in your building and it only takes one slob to have the whole building overrun within weeks. Also, I'm not talking one or two here and there I'm talking infested, we have even hired someone from a different company to come spray our apartment and nothing is working. We are not the only ones, a neighbor from a completely different building is moving out soon due to not being able to take it anymore. Please speak to an actual tenant before signing a lease here.
I have really really enjoyed my time of living at The Oaks at Lake Jackson fka The Club at Lake Jackson...the property is safe, quiet and the BEST price point in town for such a great place to stay. I lived there for 7.5 years and 3.5 a year prior to the 7. I am having a bitter sweet moment because I am moving. And, ONLY because I am becoming a homeowner. The staff at the property has been AWESOME. I have never placed a call or sent an email that went unanswered I have always had a peace of mind knowing that a resolution was within arms length. If I ever have to revert to apartment living again guess where I'm moving? You guessed it!!!! Back to The Oaks at Lake Jackson. ??
I have lived at The Oaks at Lake Jackson (formally known as The Club at Lake Jackson) for a little over 2 years now. I am so glad that I found this gem. I searched high and low and could not find anything that compared to this community (price, amenities, family friendly, school choice etc.) The new management is amazing. Like all apartments there are little issues that pop up here and there but Hannah and the maintenance staff is on top of it. Every work order or issue is handled in a timely fashion (less than 24 hours). Recently I came in to pay rent and get my monthly air filter and Hailey/Hannah followed me back to my apartment because I did not know the dimensions, measured, went back to grab the correct size, and changed the filter for me because the maintenance man was on break. The neighbors are quiet and friendly, the location is great, and I feel really safe. I like the new renovations and look forward to seeing the new improvements. I'm not sure what the resident that reviewed below is talking about.....This is a new management company and how could they be responsible for a property 8 years prior?...They just installed new light fixtures on both the front and back patio and I got a new fan as well :), lawn care is done routinely and they even remove pest (the property backs up to lake Jackson and a wooded park! We live in Florida!) Construction is running smoothly (I work for a general contractor who remodels commercial properties and can tell you horror stories). The men/women on site are really courteous, noise conscious, and even help take trash out. I'm not sure how the person below can comment on property management/contractor relations.
Don't be fooled by the band aid they are calling re-modeling. Or the staff who is writing the great reviews on here. The office manager is very rude. She tells you what she thinks you want to hear to get you out of her office...when you can catch her in the office. Her time in the office is very short. She is rude to the contractors as well as the tenants. Snakes are beyond awful and I have had them crawl in my apartment. Dont expect much from lawn care, they do as less as possible and it gets worse every time they come. each building has outside lights that they won't fix. They have not worked in about 8 years, that shows how much they care. If you consider moving here, I recommend you come out and talk to the residents. Don't listen to the goody goody they try to tell you in the front office. Best thing about this place is Booker (maintaince guy) he is very friendly and will do anything to help anyone. Just waiting for my lease to run out and my family is out of here.
Romanian in August and we were told that new management was underway. Expected to be some long drawn out type of deal however I have to say they have made so much progress in so little time. I love living here it's as if the park next door is a part of the complex / community. It is very quiet and peaceful and all the neighbors seem to be very considerate. Anything that I have asked of the staff, to check or do has been done in a courteus and extremely timely manner timely manner. And I must say that Hanna and her staff in the office has been exceptional. It's almost like waking up every morning in a vacation area. Hats off to all of you who make this possible
We love the new look. We are excited to see it finished .
I have been living here since June of 2015. They have been making some major improvements of the exterior buildings and communal places within the complex and I'm excited to see the final result. Overall I have had a positive experience living here.
My apartment complex has undergone great renovations! Before k just love the amount of space on the apartment and the use of the floor plan, but now that they have renovated the out side is as beau as the inside! I love the friendly staff and quiet neighbors! There is nothing better than a family environment and that is what they provide! I wish there were more three bed rooms, however, the two bedrooms will suffice because they are really spacious! !!!
This place is spacious and has more than enough space for my family. I have live here for two years and have not had a bad expierence. I would recommend this complex to anyone who is looking for a family environment and quiet neighbors. Come on out and see the peace for your self!!!
Great place with cooperative employees and quiet neighbors. The new renovations are definitely not top of the line, but any old handyman and amateur designer can make a home out of this place.
This has proven to be a wonderful community. Very quiet and comfortable. The management staff have been very responsive and the new renovations are beautiful. I would gladly recommend this apartment community to anyone .
Under new management and they have started improvements to the property which is great. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice quiet location.
