Yuma's historic downtown began as a rope crossing for the Colorado River in the 1840s. The earliest adobe homes were lost to floods in the early 1900s, and the current buildings along Main Street were built in the 1920s. Because of this, Downtown Yuma has a definite art deco flair, blending with the desert landscape and the palm trees to create a beautifully unique neighborhood. With its fountains and brick-paved walkways, Historic Main Street is the ideal location for festivals and street fairs.
Residents and visitors can take history (or ghost!) tours, all starting at the Sanguinetti House Museum. This adobe home was built in 1857 and includes beautiful gardens. The Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park includes six historic buildings dating back to the Indian Wars of the late 1800s. During the late 1800s, the Territory of Arizona also established a prison. Today, it is a museum at the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historical Park.

Property Ratings at The Palms
My husband & I were evacuated from our previous apartment in our bare feet and PJs when a fire happened in the units next to us. We had to go to a hotel for several days. My husband is handicapped so it was a traumatic experience for us both. A friend who works at the Palms, contacted management at our old apartments to let them know they would have a unit available for us the following week. Upon speaking withe manager, they actually had our new apartment ready in 2 days! They definitely went above and beyound to accomodate us. Our apartment is beautiful and has updated appliances. We will be forever grateful to the Palms for rescuing us.
Pros: Mostly quiet, good location (walking distance to grocery store and restaurants), two laundry facilities, very friendly staff and maintenance, pet friendly (minus poop everywhere). Cons: Not as spacious as my last apartment of same value- especially bathroom, Dish cable is included (no opt out option to save $$$ on something I don’t need/use), assigned parking has no order (my neighbor’s spot is outside our doors whereas mine is a walk across the lot). Other notable mentions: Monthly staff walk-ins to check air filters. AC is strong, but placement of vents reduce effectiveness. At move in, my carpets were dirty (black feet) and the tub needed a remodel (flaking paint?). Catalina Village Apartments are nice and I’ve enjoyed my stay, but I don’t think I’ll be renewing my lease this summer in hopes of finding something more spacious or with better value.
