College East is, as the name implies, located on the east side of San Diego State University. This popular neighborhood not only provides fast access to SDSU, but also to nearby Lake Murray, which is to the northeast of College East. Students can either walk to class or take the trolley, which has a station at the Alvarado Medical Center.
While College East is very popular with students, the neighborhood has good schools and easy access to I-8, making it great for families and commuters. Downtown San Diego is only about eight miles southwest of College East, so residents can quickly enjoy the city’s amenities and attractions. El Cajon Boulevard, which extends along the south side of the neighborhood, is lined with shops and restaurants. Popular destinations include Tokyo Sushi Loha, Dirty Birds College Area, and the Ugly Dog Pub.

Property Ratings at The Penthouse Apartments "Call for Specials"
Having been a resident of this apartment since August 2021, I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction with the frequent water shutoffs caused by emergency amd regular maintenance. The lack of water availability during these occurrences has been highly inconvenient and disruptive to my daily life. One of the primary issues I have faced is the insufficient notice provided before each water shutoff. On several occasions, I received notifications a mere 10-15 minutes before the shutoff commenced. This limited timeframe makes it extremely difficult to prepare and manage essential tasks that rely on running water. Moreover, the duration of these shutoffs can range from 1-2 hours to an astonishing 5-6 hours Furthermore, there have been instances where no advance notifications were provided, leaving me unaware of the water's unavailability until I discovered it firsthand in my apartment. This lack of communication adds to the frustration and inconvenience. Additionally, it is disappointing that the leasing office does not offer alternative options for convenience during these water shutoffs, such as mobile toilets or drinking water bottles. As paying residents, we deserve better treatment and consideration when faced with such situations, especially since we are responsible for paying our water bills. To compound the problem, these water shutoffs often occur during the morning hours, around 10 am, which is a peak time for engaging in daily activities that heavily rely on water. This timing clash disrupts my morning routine and creates unnecessary stress. For individuals considering renting this property, I strongly urge you to weigh the consequences of these frequent water shutoffs before making a final decision. It is crucial to contemplate how you would manage in situations where water is unavailable for extended periods, particularly during peak hours. While the apartment may possess other positive aspects, this recurring issue presents a significant inconvenience that should not be overlooked. In conclusion, I sincerely hope that the management takes these concerns into serious consideration and endeavors to find a more reasonable solution to minimize the impact of these water shutoffs.

Hello, Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. We greatly appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve for current and future residents.
Water is randomly shut off with no warning, people at the leasing office are rude when I come in to ask for help and I’ve caught them hiding in their office with the blinds shut once to avoid doing their jobs, have asked multiple times for a repair in my apartment to no response, the shuttle to SDSU was discontinued (which was the main appeal of this place), laundry machines constantly out of order. Many annoying things and no help from the management or leasing offices. On top of that, the price of my unit has gone up nearly 700 dollars and nothing has been improved or changed. I understand that things can go wrong (like emergency repairs), but what really bothered me was the lack of urgency to help us from the front office and the attitudes of the people working there whenever I would ask questions. Don’t rent here.

This is an apartment complex that primarily rents to students at SDSU and is a great value for the cost. As well as the value you also get management that is very helpful and accommodating to first time renters and students
