Property Ratings at The Phoenix Apartments on 6th Avenue
Moving from another state to go to school. The management made this as easy as possible and went out of their way to be helpful and timely. The apartment is very nice and updated, so cute! I wish we could get this type of fabulous service with other companies.
Spent two heat soaked years there and am glad I left. They cut out all the trees and surrounded the place with rock so it heats up like a metal clad oven. It's family owned and managed by the daughter and her husband who want to impress dad by cutting down on their outlay. They removed everything that would be a comfort including two of the three pools. Luckily they put ovens in the center courtyard so there will be even more heat to force up the electric bill to cool your apartment.
I've lived here over a year now. My apartment has had 4 floods (2 when I wasn't home and 2 at 3am) from the upstairs neighbors flushing something they shouldn't have down the toilet (a wet wipe will do it - very old pipes - can't flush anything save for single ply tp safely) and then showering, creating a blockage that comes out my shower and all over my apartment. My guest bath had similar issues. The plumbing here is finicky and the pipes are old. If you look on Robson Associates website (property managers) you will note that the entire C unit is available. The reason for this is that things don't get fixed for months (I think they only have one very busy maintenance fellow) and we haven't had hot water in 2 months (lukewarm at best and the dang shower head must gave been installed by short people. I'm 5'9" and I have to duck at least 2-3 inches to wash my hair) They let you move in and things aren't perfect, my bathtub and kitchen were dirty when I moved in and they go over everything with a fine toothed comb when you leave. Including searching your apartment with a K9 for pests (bedbugs and roaches) and doing a pre-move out inspection one month before you move out. Be prepared for that if you chose to live here. They want your animals out while the K9 is there...where the heck am I supposed to put my animals and all furniture 2 feet from the wall (heavy couch? Too bad, if you don't move it, they will charge you $40) Anyway, property has had some security update -gates added at front, lights added, but they let shady people live here too, so it's a toss up. Price is decent for sure and managers are nice.
Located in the Melrose districtwith a very quick walk to 2 grocery stores and only a few blocks from the light rail. These apartments are a bit older but the management is very attentive to getting maintenance in for repairs, though some things take a bit longer than you'd like. When our a/c went out in the summer they provided a portable a/c unit for one room and we did have to "rough it" for a week, but then they reduced our rent that month for our troubles. They've just upgraded the grounds with a new courtyard and barbecue pits. Last fall all the buildings were repainted and more trees have been planted throughout. This is also one of the least expensive rentals in the downtown area.
These apartments are so cute. Very urban and vintage. Quiet place with lots of trees for shade. Plus in the best neighborhood for a good price.
1. In the two years I've lived there, they have repaired one thing correctly. Usually, they send a guy in to stare at it, claim he needs to order a part, and never return, then they hope you'll just learn to live with it. 2. In the last year, they've been sprucing up the place, which involves making the outside look nicer without doing anything to the insides. My stove is from about 1972 and hasn't worked since the day I moved in. The biggest "improvement" I've dealt with was when they decided they needed a new flood light that shines directly in my bedroom window, making it nearly as bright in there at midnight as it is at 8AM. 3. If you like bed bugs, cockroaches, and ants, this is a great place to live with all three. 4. Moving out because they're raising the rent by $100. This is on top of the $40 they raised it after I'd been there a year. Looking around at my neighbors, I'm not sure who they think has $100 of extra income every month. We're all lower class working stiffs. 5. The water all stinks. When you go to wash your hands after using the bathroom, the water coming out of the faucet doesn't smell much different from the water swirling down the bowl. And speaking of that bowl, the water will stain it. Clorox tablets and other bleaching agents in the tank have little to no effect. 6. For the most part, the neighbors are quiet. 7. The air conditioner in my unit is one of the most inefficient I've ever seen. Last summer, I was averaging $220 for electricity. June's bill went from around $40 all winter to $130 because I ran the A/C for 6 days in May. I never set the thermostat lower than 82. 8. Convenient walking distance to Safeway, Phoenix College.
