Located about a mile from the downtown area, Northeast South Bend consists of schools, small businesses, medical facilities, and an active group of residents that promote community services. This is a popular area among Notre Dame faculty and staff, and housing incentives increase the area's appeal and creates motivation to refurbish existing older homes. Lush landscaping, upscale apartments, and colorful long-standing homes give Northeast South Bend a charming feel. There are beautiful parks and plazas along the Saint Joseph River that provide outdoor entertainment year round.
Residents enjoy an incredible variety of locally owned eateries and shops scattered all about this section of town, and even more options just across the river to the west. This is a fantastic spot for Notre Dame supporters thanks to its proximity to the university and its stadium. If you want a rental in a peaceful part of South Bend that’s not short on entertainment, check out Northeast South Bend.

Property Ratings at The Pointe at St. Joseph
I have not had reliable hot water for MONTHS. The maintenance team said the problem was that one of the heaters was broken, and the other was not enough for all to get hot water (and apparently no interest in fixing it). They did not care, despite all my complaints and diligent payment. The AC broke (a bird was inside), and I had to change to electric heaters. My electric bill went up, and they did not reimburse me for the extra costs. My car was vandalized, my coat was stolen at the parking lot, and again no compromise. Lots of neighbors complained about items being stolen from their cars in the parking lot. The front door lock of the building was broken for weeks, and nothing was done. There is no surveillance. This is not a nice or safe place. AVOID.

I can't say enough about the staff! Any issues are handled timely and professionally! The apartments are spacious and up to date! The fact that the place is pet friendly makes it that much more a great place to live!!

We are glad to hear that you are so happy here at The Pointe at St. Joseph, Shawn. Thank you for taking the time to let us know!
These aoartment homes are not worth the money residents pay for them. The red doors are hideous and scratched up. The hallways are smelly and dirty they are never cleaned. The gym ewuipment is used and sweated on but not wiped down. Even seen a homeless guy sleep on the couch in the clubhouse.

I overlooked them not taking care of my maintenance requests for months. I overlooked them not giving me the referral discount when my coworker signed a lease. When I moved out I was told all I had to do was turn in my keys. I moved out the week before my lease was up. In my conversations with management they had never told me I needed to give them notice if I was moving out. 1 Month after moving out I got a notice saying that I had an unpaid balance (over 2000 in fines for moving out without notice) that had gone to collections. While I would have been upset and tried to figure out why I had to pay it, I was not given that opportunity. They never emailed me, called me or sent me a message about this balance. They didn't take the time to reach out and now it has affected my credit score because they weren't content with the ridiculous "market set" prices they charged me for 1.5 years. There are much better apartments in South Bend for less, that won't treat you like a cash cow.
We were very excited to move here and make this our home but we will not be making this our home for long unless management quits lying to us and keeps the common areas inside and out cleaner. If you live by something mechanical that makes noise on a regular basis you are told your rent is cheaper to accommodate you for this ~ this is NOT true!! Site manager AND regional manager lie to you. Both inside and outside common areas are not kept up. There has been trash wrapped around the pretty flowers out front for over a week. Trash blows in or residents leave it is not picked up on a regular basis. This is a pet friendly community which is great but they do not make residents follow their rule of picking up after their pets. So be care where you walk! There are pet waste baskets but they are normally over flowing ~ unless you complain they are cleaned up. The parking area as well is not kept up ~ I have found screws, nails, etc in parking areas. And parking is a premium here! The inside common areas are unkempt as well. There has been clippings from peoples shoes inside entry area for over 2 weeks!! I can't tell you the last time the hallways were vacuumed!! The halls and common doors have big scuffs on them. The moulding around the doors is metal and the paint is falling off. The elevator is usually filthy ~ again unless you complain it is cleaned. The area by the trash chute people will leave their trash there and it will stay there until it smells and sticks to the floor! The underground garage smells like a trash dump and we pay 80.00 per space to park there!! The apartments are bright and sunny! We love the apartment itself. The leasing gals are awesome and treat you like a neighbor vs a dollar, like the manager treat you. They listen but their hands are tied as it's up to management to fix things......The apartments themselves are bright and sunny. Could have more storage but what place couldn't.. :) Updated kitchens. If you can tolerate all of the above just to live in a nice apartment this place is for you...if not you can find the same quality, cleaner community much cheaper if you don't have to have the location.
Could be a very beautiful apartment community if taken care of! We found after the snow melted that the grounds outside are not kept up. You will find trash of all kinds on grounds including glass, cigarette butts, pet waste etc. The pet waste baskets outside are normally overflowing. The parking area is not kept clean either. I found screws and nails and had to pick up myself so I could park. They have a policy that people are to pick up after their pets but they don't follow through on that so you have to be careful where you walk outside. Quiet time is at 10 pm every night. The inside of the buildings aren't kept clean either. The elevator is FILTHY!! Hand prints on windows of common area doors. HUGE scuffs on walls and doors and can't remember when it was the last time I heard them vacuum hallways. They make some people follow the rules and some they don't. Depends if they like you or not. The underground parking is very dirty as well. Management is not easy to work with on issues. Have had rain in different windows twice during storms. Maintenance is pretty good about getting your requests done in a timely manner. Management is hard to work with on issues. If you can deal with the above living downtown is nice and the apartments are very bright.
Absolutely terrible experience living here. When I first moved in there was the smell of human waste in my apartment. It was coming from the apartment below me from a hole in my wall in the laundry area. It took a month of complaining and finally reporting the apartment to the Heath Department and calling corporate for the maintenance to do anything. My car was stolen from the apartment parking lot in the night. I never felt safe outside after dark. The glass ceiling lights feel off the ceiling could have hurt myself or my pet. Maintanence was terrible. My flooring was not put on properly and then began to peel. Instead of fixing the problem, they staples the floor down. When I moved in there was a hole in my window screen. Instead of getting a new screen, maintanence put tape on it. The office never adressed the problems or took me seriously as a renter. The quality of living did not match the high prices of this establishment.
the windows are cheap, the city noise so disturbing it's tough to sleep at night. Low quality amenities for outrageous prices. Not worth it. Wouln't reccomend.
The Pointe at St. Joseph is a great apartment complex right downtown. The units are cleaned up nicely for new residents. Most of them have new appliances and some of them have new cabinets in the kitchen. My unit has slightly older cabinets, but they are painted nicely and I have no problems with them whatsoever. The biggest issue inside the apartment is the AC is a little loud in my unit...but at least it has AC! I really like the maintenance guys, they are friendly and eager to help (I needed their approval for something when the cable guy was here, and they got up to my apartment in 5 minutes). The office is under new management and now has a better online presence. They put together weekly community events, such as pizza night and "whitewater rafting" on the East Race (which is a 2 minute walk). My one complaint with the office is that they often don't let you know that you have a package waiting there and just have to find out after a while or by a tracking number. Outside, the pool was just repaired and I see plenty of people there during the summer. The parking lot situation is definitely the worst part of The Pointe. There are limited spots in the lot, and often there are unpermited cars taking up spots and the tow truck they employ doesn't do a good job of weeding them out. You have to park across the street if it's full. BUT, they just put in 10 new spots and already I haven't had an issue. They are also redoing the siding on the buildings and balconies - which is great to see just from a "they are looking to improve" point of view. The location is great, it's close to downtown eateries such as The Fiddler's Hearth and is next to the East Race. The neighborhood does get a little dodgy if you go 4 or 5 blocks West, but at the apartment complex, I feel completely safe. At night, I wouldn't dilly dally outside without a place to go, but that's like most urban settings anyway. Overall, I love living here. Try getting a place like this at this price in Chicago or New York. Fuhgeddaboutit!!!!
Rent is too high, apartment needs wood floors not dirty carpet.
The complex is old, the rent is too high for what you get.
Property Manager at The Pointe at St. Joseph, Responded To This Review
Good News, we are currently remodeling! Please stop in and see us for a tour.
Parking is the worst part of this complex. After 6pm, you can't find a parking spot. You are expected to park in an unsecured lot across the street.
Years ago these were premier homes, They appear to have had minimal replacements in kitchen etc,but are very expensive for the price.
