Property Ratings at The Quarters at Iowa City
Lived there for a year and visited other times. Yes, I understand that if you live somewhere you should be able to park there, however, they automatically tow a car when they are notified. They also start towing at 9pm. I don’t know a lot of young people (which is the majority of people who live there) that don’t stay out past 9pm. After we lived there, we went to visit a friend. We were there from 8:45pm-10:40pm. We just went for dinner and then tried to go home, but in that time our car was towed. It cost us $200 to have dinner at our friends house. That is crazy. If you have friends that you don’t want to screw over, don’t live there and invite them over. It also makes sense as to why many people are so rude there too. If you’re the type of person who is so angry that you didn’t get a good parking spot that you think it’s worth it to ruin someone else’s day and cost them money that you don’t know if they even have, then I can see why you would want to live there. You just don’t know anyone’s situation and I think it’s actually harmful that they don’t even give people a chance to move their cars or anything. They don’t even start by giving tickets. Lastly, when we moved out, they tried to charge us for damages that were there before we ever moved in. We had the proof so they did knock the price down from $440 to $75. They tried to charge us $440 for damages that they probably knew were there before we moved in. So I know that they probably did that to everyone they could, and I’m sure some people paid that. They are very hard to work with. If you have been taken advantage of by them, or have wrongly had to pay for your car being towed because you wanted to have dinner at a friends place for 2 hours, they don’t care. I have tried talking to the desk workers and the property managers but usually all they can say is “I’m sorry there’s really nothing we can do.” And they take no responsibility. So, if you don’t want to be screwed over, and screw over your friends who visit you, I’d highly suggest looking at other places to live!
I actually love living at The Quarters, they have amazing amenities that me and my roommate love especially the 24 hour gym! But they hire private security to be around after hours, sounds great right? Wrong. There is a specific security officer that sees it as his duty to bully tenants and always approaches problems in an extremely rude way. My friends and I have had multiple bad experiences with him and we don’t even party or do loud things. I have been yelled at for doing a workout “too loud” in the gym by him. I have caught him looking all around my car looking for a reason to ticket me (he didn’t find one haha). He has yelled at us for using the volleyball court after 10pm even when we weren’t being loud (I looked through the whole tenant handbook to see if this is a rule and it is not). We always comply and don’t argue but he is for sure abusing his power and makes living her unpleasant at night, it makes you scared to do anything with the fear of him yelling at you (and I mean yelling). He never approaches a situation in a nice way even to start, it is always yelling to start. Other then this one security officer, this place is great and I wish they would just get ride of him. So hi quarters staff if u see this please get rid of him :) it would make living here so much better.
At first I was nervous that this place was too far from campus, but I've come to love living here. The townhouse style houses are great because I feel very safe (don't have to interact with people in hallways or elevators) in the midst of this pandemic. I had a roommate issue and the management was super helpful. Wish I wasn't moving to another state or I would stay longer.
I have loved living at The Quarters for the past 2 years. It is very pet friendly and has some great amenities. I use the gym every day as it is a decent size for an apartment gym! I'm fairly certain that most of the reviews on this website are old, as the management has been nothing but accommodating since I've been here.
I had moved in to The Quarters at the start of my Freshman year and have continued living here throughout my college experience. There are many opportunities to meet new people because of all of the great amenities they offer including the year-round hot tub, 2 pools, game room, full gym, and study lounge. Also, a huge plus is free parking! I would recommend The Quarters to anyone who is looking for a fun college experience!
The interior of the units may appear nice but the construction was done improperly and poorly. Damage to walls, floors and cupboards prior to moving in and I was the first tenant to live there. There is no management and no rules are enforced. Parking is always a problem meaning that despite tow signs no one is ever towed and therefor you will end up parking a block away or even on residential streets , the pool has closed three times this summer due to glass and there is dog poop everywhere. The bus runs on an estimated schedule meaning it will leave the quarters at the designated time but the on campus stops can run early or late and there is no way to predict. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I think Apartments Downtown runs better than this pit. Not only is this place pretty far from campus, the bus doesn't even stop on the west side of campus (so I hope you're not a grad student!), and transportation is the smallest of their problems. The staff is all next to incompetent, and they've had five property managers since I signed here last summer. While this is one of the few pet friendly apartments in the area, the pet owners are irresponsible, there is literally dog poop on every square foot of grass (and it's even in their rocked landscaping and on the sidewalks sometimes too), and while The Quarters says the offenders will be fined, they do nothing to clean up or actually fix the problem. Speaking of unclean grounds, there is trash everywhere, you will constantly find it piled outside of the provided trash compactors, and with the new cardboard rule in Iowa City, there is now constantly pieces of cardboard blowing around the grounds. It is also worth noting that since this is a large apartment complex that is marketed towards college students it is extremely loud. Personally, my neighbors are constantly yelling, blasting music, and slamming doors, all of which is very audible through thin walls. On top of that, people are always outside yelling too. This is especially bad on the weekends. If you're a partier or enjoy obnoxious neighbors, this may not be a problem, but if you are a student who cares about their school work or works early in the mornings on weekends, this could become problematic. Yet another complaint is about the internet, while it is awesome that it is provided, it is extremely slow at times. Often my phone won't load at all and I just have to use up my data. Hopefully this has provided you with enough reasons to seek housing elsewhere.
I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt for so long, but I just cannot anymore. The place wasn't ready upon move-in, not to mention that we didn't have our washer or dryer hooked up for weeks after move-in, along with the place being unclean, with many small things not finished (no lightswitch or outlet covers, some walls were unpainted, etc.). Parking is a mess, piles of garbage accumulate outside of the dumpster, people don't pick up after their pet waste and it is all largely unenforced. We've had so many problems with the office, as it seems like there's a new Property Manager every month and they all are just as disorganized as the last. They also lie to you about their "rent specials" and try to go back on their word even though it's in writing otherwise. I went here to avoid the Apartments Downtown, at Iowa, Near Campus, etc. games that they play, but just wound up dealing with the same stuff. Not to mention, it's in a crime-ridden neighborhood.
What a joke reconstruction how about a safer area instead of relocating in the worst part of IC where murder, robberies drug busts, fights they will start off still horrible look at the apts a cross and the house by the bus stop criminals float in that area
Nice inside, bad neighborhood. New management fixing things and trying to turn it around. convienet location
