Property Ratings at The Queensborough Apartments
Overpriced, unfair Deposit, always ignore maintenance request, Cockroaches I've never seen before have been seen here...
The Queensborough Apartment owner and property manager stole my security deposit. They illegally charged a cleaning fee twice: once at move-in and once at move-out. They also wrote off normal wear and tear as improper use of the property and charged me additional fees which, by coincidence, roughly equaled my security deposit so that I got back nothing. Note: I've rented for 13 years at 7 other locations: never missed a payment, never had qualms with the landlord, never had my security deposit withheld. This is a first for me. Beware!
Toured this apartment after reading the reviews to at least give it a shot. First off, the apartments are beyond dated. If you want to live in the 1980s without inventing a time machine, live here. Moreover, I asked about the availability of street parking and I was adamantly told that it was impossible to find and my only option would be paying the $120/month to park in the building. This was a flat out, unadulterated lie. I now live one block away and find street parking within 5 minutes every time; even at odd hours. I met someone who currently lives there and they cannot wait to move out. Do yourself a favor.. Do not live here.
Like most of the reviews, you will NOT get your deposit back and you need pay extra when move out. You literally pay for all building maintenance and management fee in one way or another. I was not planning to write the review but the few 'good' (probably paid for) reviews make me sick and force me to leave my opinion here The staff attitude/service is the worse in all my experience, not only with leasing office. I just do not understand what kinds of miserable life could put someone in such mood. you always have homeless neighbor close to the building, and ah, the smell of weed after all, try to find some other place; if you could not (you can usually find space available here, and you should know why now), save extra money for the time you move out
The units themselves are quite nice, but the management company that took over a few years ago is only interested in bleeding out every last cent possible from the tenants. Evey year brings the legal maximum rent increase plus a new monthly "fee" of some sort that allows them to exceed the legal limit. As their website states, they are committed to turning the apartment over to attract new tenants at "market rates." The building is great, just be sure you know what you're getting into. If you're looking for a long-term residence, best avoid Redside properties.
I've been living here for a couple months now, and it's been pretty good so far. Friendly neighbors and apartment manager, great location and view from the roof. The appliances and cabinets in my unit are outdated (they look like they're straight out of the 50s), but personally I don't mind too much. Overall, the Queensborough is good!
