Seeming to rise from the ocean like the mountain peaks that surround it, Downtown Honolulu is a business hub in the middle of paradise. This stunning mix of modern buildings, historic landmarks, and verdant landscape provides the ultimate lifestyle – surf or enjoy the beaches on weekends and walk to work in this capital city during the week.
Some of the most important historic locations in Oahu are located in Downtown Honolulu, including Iolani Place, the Aloha Tower, and the King Kamehameha I statue. Iolani Place, built in 1882, has the distinction of being the only royal palace in the United States. Other important destinations include Hawai’i Pacific University, the Hawaii State Art Museum, and Kakaako Waterfront Park.
Downtown Honolulu is divided into several smaller districts. As you look at apartments in Honolulu, be sure to take note of them: the Capitol District, Chinatown, the Waterfront, and the Central Business District.

Property Ratings at The Residences at Bishop Place
The units are nice with a high end look BUT that's all it has going for it. The walls are the absolute thinnest - i hear every. Single. Word. My neighbors speak. I don't mean I hear noise. I literally hear everything said. I can hear my other neighbor lifting her blinds every morning as if she were on my own home. I STILL, after 6 months, have outstanding maintenance tickets for the ceiling fans and lights which randomly turn on when my neighbors use their lights and fans. Apparently after 6 months and multiple units complaining about this issue, they still have no solution. We just have to keep our lights and fans switched completely off so they don't randomly turn on at 3 am and wake us up.. again..and again. Elevators are constantly breaking down. The fire alarm has gone off at a min 6 times that we've been home in the last 6 months- ALL false alarms and highly loud and inconvenient. It's gotten to the point where all the tenants poke their heads out and take bets on how many units will actually clear out. One day there will be a real fire and no one will leave b/c the false alarms happens so often. It's heavy homeless out back make it feel dirty and unsafe. The front smells constantly like urine. The leasing agents are very kind but there is only so much they can do. I wouldn't recommend this place until they can fix so many issues they have.
Complete cash grab. *Warning when applying* There is a $50 application fee and a $250 ‘holding fee’(read second application fee) they will not refund either. I applied. They came back, changing the lease, which I disagreed with so I withdrew my application, expecting the $250 back, but nope they will not refund the ‘deposit’ like stated in the paperwork. Crazy breach of contract and total cash grab.
Tons of other, better locations for the same if not cheaper. The price is ridiculous for what we are having to go through with all the construction and them taking over our apartment over 6 times now because they need to access the floor above through our ceiling. Plus all the construction you have to deal with when walking through the lobby & elevators being down every other day. I’m sure it’ll be nice when it’s done. But they were not honest when they said there would be construction going on, way underplayed it. Now it doesn’t surprise me because management has no communication and lacks customer service over all. they say they will get back to you about something, but you end up having to re explain your whole situation to someone else for them to them get back to you, weeks later sometimes. This place has no pool, no gym (currently), and not even a okay area to walk around in, especially after dark. Every where around here closes around 5 and there’s just tons of homeless hanging around. Trust me when I say, you can find something better..

As the other reviews said, this is an overpriced construction zone. So if you want to live in one; this is place for you. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes just to leave the building between the elevator shutdowns & the construction blocking areas off. Yes, the units themselves are nice but upon closer inspection much of the work was cheaply done. The insulation is HORRIBLE. The fact that I can hear my neighbors sneeze, (clearly) hear conversations & each and every single footstep is unacceptable. The area is okay, but the amount of homeless and addicts makes me feel unsafe, and don’t even consider walking outside after dark. During the weekends most of the businesses and restaurants are closed. The staff is nice but lack communication skills, and it seems that they forget things that you tell them within 30 seconds of having a conversation. Long story short, this place is not worth what you pay in rent with the things you have to deal with.
I do not recommend living here and do not look forward to going home at the end of the work day...and that’s saying something! Although I was given forewarning about the ongoing construction, I’m in complete agreement with the previous review in that it was downplayed. The gym presented in the pictures is also incomplete. Pros: Beautiful newly renovated lobby. New appliances. Friendly staff and security guards. Modern and clean interior. Cons: Constant construction noise, extremely loud at times to the point where it rattles the room. Construction traffic both in the building and parking garage. Aesthetically unpleasing construction boards up everywhere, due to majority of the building still being built/renovated. Staff is disorganized and lacks communication with issues. Constant elevator shutdowns with minimal notice. Dangerous area with homelessness and addicts. Narrow, compact tandem parking stalls which can be quite a headache.
The construction in the building is terrible. It’s loud and noisy all the time. Construction closes the elevators all the time making it very difficult to navigate the building, it can take several minutes just to get in and out of the building (took over 20 just to get to the parking garage on more than one occasion). Management down played the amount of construction when I signed the lease. Dealing with the management office is sometimes a pain. They are all nice and pleasant, but often you have to deal with multiple people on an issue and it’a obvious they don’t communicate well with each other. The apartments are decent and clean, they are not “luxury”, appliances, cabinets, flooring, and countertops are cheap and not put together well. At first glance they all look nice, but a closer inspection fit and finish is sloppy at best. The area surrounding the building is not nice either, lots of homeless everywhere. Walking to surrounding businesses doesn’t feel safe. During the day everything is fine, but I would not suggest going out after dark alone.
It's new, it's clean, no bugs, not humid, ac is here. Construction will be using jack hammers and drilling monday-friday though, You will be woken up by it. The club on the first floor is lout too, they've attempted to start back up during covid. You will not be able to sleep friday and saturday night because of it. The elevators also shake the building, you'll have some vertigo sensations since you'll feel the floor beneath you twist/bow. After this lease is up, I'm definitely leaving here. The construction noise is just too much for the amount that I'm paying.
