Property Ratings at The Residences at Northwood LLC
Northwood provided an exceptional living experience for my wife and I over the past several years. Management is always on top of their game and the building is well maintained. Wouldn’t recommend going anywhere else!
There are many apartments which claim to be luxury apartments; however, this property certainly fits the bill. With heated floors, garage, sidewalks, and entryway, keyless entry (main door and to your unit), elevator, energy efficiency, security cameras throughout the common areas, and 24/7 contracted security, this place definitely stands out. I would honestly say that this place is, by far, in the top 5 within the Anchorage area. Joe is the property manager for this place and is simply awesome! He is very attentive and ensures that any issue that comes up is dealt with immediately (including follow-ups). Maintenance is taken care of and dealt with the same day or the following day. Being that the buildings are still new, they generally do not have any maintenance issues. Here are a few things to note: 1. There is no gym on the property. 2. Snow is removed promptly – I have never seen snow pile up anywhere on the property. 3. The door to the stairwell (from the garage) is not secured – while you would think this is not a main concern, it does provide a point-of-entry for would be thieves. This includes access to the elevator (again, from the garage). Thieves and homeless have entered the building by careless tenants that either allow tailgating, fail to ensure the door closes behind them, gives out their door codes, or does not wait for the garage door to close before leaving or entering the garage (thieves can sneak in after a car leaves the garage as the garage door closes on a timer). 4. There is WiFi throughout the building (by ACS), which is much cheaper than GCI (with unlimited data!); however, it is limited to only 10 devices. 5. The building front door can be remotely opened by your phone (for guests, family, friends, etc.); however, can only be used with a 907 number. This can be a problem for a few people that do not have or want a 907 number (i.e. military). This is also a problem for food deliveries too… have to wait down stairs to open the front door. So, all-in-all this is an excellent place to live. You have to keep in mind that any apartment is going to have similar issues (i.e. noisy neighbors, traffic noise, inconsiderate neighbors, neighbors that do not adhere to rules, etc.). Keep that in mind when searching for ANY apartment. I loved my apartment and certainly made it my home. It has many amenities for those who can afford it.
Let's dig into the pros first: This place is definitely a better option than most in Anchorage. It was not my first choice (availability was an issue for me and I needed a place sooner than later) but certainly was not my last. The views of the mountains and trees are definitely great. And speaking of the views, having a top floor unit with vaulted ceilings and the additional windows makes it even greater. The vaulted ceilings are also great in making the space feel larger and brings in a lot of beautiful, natural sunlight. The property manager is hard working, responsive and prompt. Repairs are done fairly quickly (I can say as I have needed many in the short amount of time that I've lived here) and although I haven't been here for the winter yet, I can tell that in in floor heating will be an added perk. The in-suite washer and dryer are also very convenient and quiet enough so that it doesn't bother me to do laundry at night. Last but not least, having indoor parking was a must for me and you get an inside designated spot in the building (although I do have issues with my space in particular due to a barrier). So, cons: I should begin by saying I am not from Alaska and my standards could potentially be pretty high. Also, it is possible I just have bad luck. I won't go into detail or voice all of my cons for various reasons, but will state some that I think could be helpful. I live on the top floor, so I can not attest to above floor noise, but I can say that at night I can hear snoring. Luckily, I can sleep through anything so it isn't a huge issue for me. There is no vent (or window) in the bathroom for air circulation. Kitchen and bathroom sinks are shallow. Trash is outside behind the building. The street noise from Northwood is definitely loud and it often sounds like people are racing cars up and down the road and obviously as the building is near the airport, you will get airplane noise.
I moved in a year ago and was fortunate enough to get a corner 1BR apartment on the top floor with 15 foot ceilings and a beautiful view of the mountains! Everything was clean, new, and spacious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The unit included a washer/dry unit, radiant floor heating, an indoor parking space (lifesaver in winter!), and secured key-less access to the building and unit. The only downsides I experienced were a hot unit in the summer (no AC like the rest of Alaska) and noise from Northwood Street (people use it as a drag strip!), which may have been worse because I was in an end unit. Otherwise I would fully recommend living here if it is in your budget!
I moved in 1 year ago and I love my apartment, the view of the mountains is amazing!! Quality, maintenance, cleanliness of the common areas and quiet are here at The Residences at Northwood but the most important thing is the good management. My apartment is very modern, you get an indoor heated garage, heated sidewalks, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, washer/dryer in unit and more square footage than you will find elsewhere. I'm very happy with my decision and I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a comfortable, very spacious, more updated place to stay in the Anchorage area.
I'm an ex-landlady, having for years owned and operated my own apartments, so you might say I have high expectations. I love The Residences at Northwood - the owners "do it right". The parking garage is secure and clean; the grounds are well maintained and lovely. My apartment is a warm, secure haven with stunning views of the mountains. Amenities like radiant heat in the floors and nine-foot ceilings are wonderful. Above all else, it's a well built, clean, quiet building, with good management, and I'm happy to call it home.
Having owned and lived in larger houses/townhouses, I was apprehensive about downsizing to a single bedroom apartment. After the first night I knew I would be staying here awhile. This place rocks! Walk in pantry in the kitchen, 5x7 walk in closet, radiant floor heating, secure building, heated garage, and owners that take care of any issues quickly. They even have heated sidewalks, main entrance steps, and garage ramp. Utilities are very good with the efficient energy design. Location is amazing with the highway literally right outside. I can't say enough about the family that owns this property. They are patient, caring, and genuine. Shaun is the best. If you want a QUALITY living experience in Anchorage that falls in the luxury category, look no further than The Residences at Northwood. I guarantee this is THE nicest apartment rental property in Anchorage. I would give this place six stars if I could.
Downsizing from a house to an apartment has been a great experience at The Residences at Northwood. Each room is sizable enough, with ample closet space, to include a walk-in pantry. It's a quiet building, secure and clean. We appreciate that the Manager is accessible and responds to questions or concerns (although there are few of these!). The location is ideal, close to the Airport and downtown Anchorage. Attention has been paid to landscaping and to keeping the building, inside and out, presentable.
I have lived here since this building first opened. I LOVE my apartment. Heated floors are awesome on cold winter days, like standing on warm sand when you step out of the shower. Nice, community garage that is well kept and all the neighbors respect others property. Washer/Dryer in unit is a major plus. Also, love the security and quiet nature of this building. Great neighbors and wonderful landlords. On my 4th year and have no plans to move.
This is a new building. I have lived here since this place first opened in summer of 2012. This building is modern with several energy saving features. My typical heating bill is around $50 a month. They maintain the building very clean. The staff are very courteous and take care of maintenance requests promptly. This place has a heated basement garage with assigned parking spaces.
Everything you want in an apartment and nothing of what you don't! Excellent location for commuting to downtown, Midtown or South Anchorage. Located near a residential neighborhood, so there is easy access to grocery stores, parks, cross country skiing, sledding and restaurants nearby. The building itself is newer, extremely energy efficient (which is huge plus in Anchorage!) and very well maintained! It offers privacy, covered (heated) parking and a secure access entry. The building isn't overcrowded and it is so peaceful to come home to. You won't regret this move for a minute!
Our overall rating is excellent, we've been living there for 6 months and we're very happy with the Northwood residences, the location, cleanliness, maintenance, kindness and availability of staff to resolve any situation. If you're looking for a place to rent don't forget to visit this place.
