Due to our age, my wife and I decided to downsize from our previous 4 bedroom 4200 sq ft house and move to Thornwood. I will admit going from 4200 sg ft to 1198 sq ft was not an easy task, especially since we have been married 51 years! You can collect a lot of stuff in 51 years! Once you get pass the initial pain of decluttering, we found it very freeing to be rid of all that stuff! We love all the amenities here at Thornwood and the lack of burdens involved in maintaining a large home, large yard and constant repair issues. The maintenance department guys here are so helpful and solve every issue immediately. Since we had never lived in an apartment, we initially move here thinking Thornwood would be a temporary stop gap move. We’re now in our fourth year here and just renewed our annual lease for year number five. Thanks to all the Thornwood employees for making this such a nice place to live!

We need more pest control on the premises outside. I have received lots of mosquito bites while sitting out enjoying the view. Also, the pool area needs attention. There are lots of bugs running around during the night.

Don’t Believe the Hype
Property was cheaply made. I shouldn’t know when someone is taking a shower above me. Pipes squeak when the people above me flush their toilet, I can hear their bathroom exhaust fan when turned on. Residents have no respect for quiet hours. They decided to place a couple with two medium sized dogs above me; and I have a baby. Normal walking here & there is expected but NOT stomping or things being dragged across the floor, dogs running and playing with toys through the day. Like normal people, informed the leasing office/concierge, even politely asked the people above us if they don’t mind keeping the noise down. NOTHING…it got worse. What was I expecting…a mutual respect & understanding lol Nope. It pays you nothing to be considerate of other people smh. It is utterly ridiculous; especially for the amount of rent we’re paying. My family & I moved from Texas and paying more money for “luxury apartments” at The Residences. Very disappointed

Not Impressed
So first, it's a beautiful building that when seen from the outside. Now living in Thornwood, is a little different than what is captured during a walk through. The walls are thin, and I mean, you can hear anything passing through the hallway. If you're not on the fifth floor, I assure you, you will continuously hear people walking on top of you, using the restroom, showering, etc. The noises are so loud that sometimes, it almost sounds like they are in your apartment itself. Not to mention, you hear everything outside as well. The lower your apartment is, the more sounds you will definitely hear coming from inside and outside the building. Even the bathroom vent brings noises in from outside- I was able to hear a conversation happening outside my apartment through my vent in the middle of the night. When you try to talk to management regarding your concerns, they always try to give you an excuse for a why a change cannot be executed to accommodate a resident better. After all, it's no big deal, it's not like it's one of the most expensive apartment complexes in all of Memphis. Management is indifferent about making a change for you up until you A. either take matters into your own hands or B. confront them with their attitudes. This, my dear friends, is not luxury, but rather the equivalent of a three- star hotel. Beautiful from the outside, but poor installations of the building itself and of the management running it. Management can really care less about anything regarding your "comfort" when it comes to living here. They do take care of maintenance issues within a practical time, but anything else, they just blame the owner for. “He wants it this way,” or “he doesn't want that,” or better yet, “it's just the way it is”- in other words, they don't want to do anything about it, or even try. Two big positives though are the location and security. But a word to the wise, if you do want to live here and experience this so called "hotel" lifestyle, make sure you're on the top level, and I specifically mean the fifth floor. Anything lower than that, well then, expect to hear lots of noises. Also if you're anything like me, and believe that you should get your money's worth, then I'd strongly suggest thinking real hard before you come and live here. Management really just wants to sell you, and if you're someone who what so little complains, I can assure you that they won't fight hard to keep you. After all, why bother anyway right?
