The iconic Churchill Downs defines this small neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky. The thoroughbred horse-racing track is most well-known for hosting the Kentucky Derby since 1875. The Kentucky Derby Museum is a great place to visit at Churchill Downs, publicly displaying this celebrated horse race over the course of history. Apartments for rent in this South Louisville community provide residents convenient access to the famous 147-acre racetrack complex that offers multiple forms of entertainment, such as night racing. Located just west of the University of Louisville, the neighborhood of Churchill Downs is about five miles from downtown.
The track isn’t the only attraction to the neighborhood, however. For a unique shopping experience, visit the Tickled Pink Memorabilia Mall, an older house converted into a retail store with continuously changing collections of antique, vintage, and thrift store items.

Property Ratings at The Retreat at Louisville
i throughly enjoy living at the retreat. the neighborhood is safe, convenient, and has a lot of useful amenities that i use often. I highly recommend living here.
Honestly I was looking for something more home like and I found it here at The Retreat! My room is very spacious and the walk in closet it HUGE! I also love that it comes furnished, one less thing to worry about as a college student.
The house was spotless and neat my roommates are the sweetest. 2 of my roommates have dogs and are so cute and well-behaved. My room was clean and ready for organizing. It is very spacious even tho it would be considered one of the smallest. I honestly think it is big enough I have a lot of stuff and everything fits perfectly. the room has good natural lighting and everything works great.
We just moved into a new house from our old one. We paid $300 for a transfer fee hoping when we arrived everything would be ready for us. When we moved in to our new house trash was left all over the balcony, white dust all over the floor, lights broken, shelves broken, door handles wobbly, the ac unit falling off the wall, fan strings ripped off, and tables broken. This was very frustrating to move into considering we had to pay in order to switch houses when we were notified we could not renew our old lease. We had our outdoor furniture stored outside as well and this was taken as well by the Retreat. We had no response to our other message about this either. We were very disappointed with this upon our arrival.
Haven’t moved in yet, but the leasing office has been helpful every time I call! Looking forward to moving in and enjoying all the amenities.
Great! love the community and where it’s placed at. i like that guests/any persons have to put in a code before entering the community. It makes me feel safer
Big rooms and a lot of space in the common areas. The amenities are amazing and it has a lot of places where you can walk around. The pool is really and the gym are really nice.
I love everything about this apartment complex. Everything is very nice and clean and all the staff is super nice and helpful. I highly recommend living here.
The Retreat is a nice place to live and just a walk away from my classes. However, I've encountered a lot of organizational and communication issues.

I have lived in The Retreat for a little over a year now and I have nothing negative to say. My neighbors are friendly; at the office, they always find a way to help, and maintenance is great! This is a lovely community to live in, without a doubt! I have renewed my lease twice because of this ;)

Only good thing about this place is the maintenance crew. Management is useless, houses are falling apart (don’t worry they will charge you to fix what the previous tenants did)

The Retreat is one of the better options when it comes to picking housing for UofL students. The location is great, the walk to campus is only 10 minutes. Regarding the actual housing, the amount of space you get is great. The living and kitchen area is very spacious. The bedrooms are on the biggest when compared to all other campus housing. One of the biggest advantages is the maintenance team. KJ is super friendly and great at getting things done in a timely manner. If you put a request in for something, it gets done usually within the day. I cant say enough great things about KJ - great guy!

Good convenient location for UofL students. KJ on the maintenance staff is the best there is, super responsive and brings a great light to the complex. Would recommend.

I've lived here for six months and in that time my house has been broken into, my roommates car has been stolen, my friends house was broken into and her car was stolen, another friend had black mold in her room and countless more terrible things. The security does nothing and you always just have to call the campus police which happens often as the retreat is in such a terrible and dangerous area. The management staff and all really rude and don't have your best interest at heart. Whatever you do don't live here, the gates never work and it's not worth your money.

This place is the most unsafe campus affiliated housing you can find. I am surprised the university let such an awful company be affiliated with them it is such an ugly look. Many cars get broken into or stolen from this place. The maintenance is always walking around with no mask during a pandemic and they try to come in my house without a mask!!! I shouldn’t have to ask someone to put on a mask to enter my house during a pandemic. One girl had her house broken into and they stole her keys and wallet and other stuff while she was asleep in her own house!! One of my friends found black mold in her room. They sprayed something on it and months later it came back and put a hole in her ceiling! The management here is extremely rude and never deals with any safety concerns I have.

I have lived here for a few years because I enjoy being able to walk to class with it’s close proximity, but if it wasn’t for that aspect and that we have a large enough backyard for my dog to exercise in we WOULD NOT LIVE HERE. The staff is rude and they care more about making money than they do their residents. Don’t be shocked if your maintence request never gets resolved, if the “24 hour” community assistant on call number doesn’t actually work when you have an emergency, if they tow your car, even though you pay to live here and have all the required passes to park, if none of the gates ever work properly for more than a few days, if most of the amenities they advertise are broken or malfunctioning, or if they move somebody new into your house immediately the same day without notifying the new roommate of the service pet that lives in your home. They will do anything to make money and want you to follow their policies until it’s no longer convienient for them. They will be the first ones to charge you a fee for simply having a trash can out back to throw your dogs doggy bags in or a fee because of damage that was left from previous tenants. Absolutely one of the worst places to live near campus. Save your money (seriously they are the most expensive per month) and live somewhere better. In addition, if you see positive reviews that seem too good to be true they probably are. The retreat often will email residents with an offer to be entered into a raffle for money or gift cards if they leave reviews.
The Retreat is a great place to live. Close to campus, has a lot of great amenities to offer, and parking right outside my door! The pool over the summer is great and very popular among students. Also, valet trash is so convenient, especially during the cold winter months! Could not be more happy with my decision to live at the Retreat. --Mariana
