Property Ratings at The Retreat at Riverlakes
Living at The Retreat is terrible. The management is awful, there’s nothing to do, and the place is infested with roaches. Maintenance is slow and ineffective, and communication is non-existent. Avoid at all costs.
Just moved here from salt lake city. Was nice to have staff send pictures and updates and do all the paperwork online. Felt welcomed as soon as we arrived and cant wait to continue to settle here
Only pros of this place is the location, you have a garage(very small), and it is modernISH. Soo many more cons. This place gets INFESTED with roaches. The appliances are 20 years old. The rent goes up $200 every 6 months. The management and maintenance are TERRIBLE, especially management. The walls are so thin that you can hear your upstairs neighbors every step. The place may look modern but it’s very cheaply done. I wish I would have listened to other reviews and moved elsewhere. Don’t do it.
So yeah you have to pay extra to park in the gated parking lot and will get towed if you don’t. Also myself and my neighbors were robbed and the apartment never informed either of us when it had happened to better protect ourselves. There is no security ever there as well. Do not move here. Management also generally sucks.
From the outside it looks like it would be a great facility. It's really a giant let down once step foot inside. Any visitors will have to park at rite aid or take a risk of being towed. The apartments themselves are dark and not welcoming at all. For the price you would expect more but it just doesn't deliver. If you want an apartment here be prepared to check the website multiple times a day to see what's available. You won't get a chance to see the layout in person. Unless you get extremely lucky and one is empty. There is a $100 holding deposit that is only returned if you cancel within 72 hours of your application. Management isn't very welcoming to potential tenants other than to collect money. I wouldn't recommend living here to anyone.
The management office allows a local tow company come through the property and tow any car without a parking pass without warning or notice. Even your car that is registered with the office. The office staff did not communicate this at all during move-in. The lease does go over parking but not to the extent that you are not allowed to park your car for even 1 minute to unload your groceries without a tow truck hooking up your car. There are no loading zones within the complex. Some of the apartments come with garages but no parking pass, and there is no entrance directly to your apartment from the garage. If you have guests coming over they have to park outside of the gate in the 2 spots provided for visitors (for the entire complex), or pay $5 a day to park within the gates. This is just an insult by the management as the parking area is in no way full to the point that would require such strict rules to be in place. To get a pass for your car there is a waiting list. The management also requires to see your social security card to get your keys upon move-in. That is illegal in this case. The property itself is well maintained. The apartments are nice considering the area but the appliances are sub-par.
Lived here two years. Went from 2.5 maintenance staff down to 1. The common areas were not well maintained, commonly trash overflowing out of trashcans, spiderwebs in every possible spot, and long wait times for repairs. Was told more than one maintenance person was not in their budget. Also the guest parking is absolutely terrible. You may as well plan on having no guests or they can park at Rite Aid and walk over.
I love my home. I moved in when they first opened, and found and have been so happy here. I was concerned about the property being dusty (as the previous person pointed out) but after speaking with the office I found that they could not wash the property down due to water restrictions. It is so quiet here and beautiful. The staff here is so friendly.
The property is very nice, just not maintained very well. Unless the PM company hires a groundskeeper or additional staff this property will continue to slowly go down hill. I mean the property is huge, resort like and other complaining residents tell me that there is 1 guy to handle all maintenance issues. There is no grounds keeping staff to keep the property clean other than the weekly gardening service. The pool area, the gym area, the parking lots and corridors leading up to the apartments are filthy. This staff deficit needs to be handled immediately, as this place could very well be the nicest complex in Bakersfield. I do appreciate the quietness of the complex as I work nights. I sincerely these issues change soon and for the better. Diane
Am on the waiting list to move in. These apartments are in the school district I want my daughter in. The apartments supply all my needs at high quality. Ashley assistant manager has been a great help.
Very quiet place to live. The business area, rec room, community kitchen are not available to reserve or rent. Can only be used when the office is open. Office staff randomly calls Joe's Towing to search the parking area for non-resident cars which means you can not have visitors unless they are willing to park at Rite Aid and walk to your home.
Everything we've seen is awesome and would love to live there. A quiet community that's well kept and attractive. Very nice amenities.
