Brightwood's western edge consists of part of Rock Creek Park, a large park covering 1,754 acres. The park includes a tennis center, a golf course, horse trails, a playground, picnic areas, hiking trails, boathouses, and the historic site Fort DeRussy. Brightwood begins along Military Road and extends north to roughly Aspen Street. Fort Stevens, located near Georgia Avenue, is a popular historic park featuring Civil War fortifications and hiking and bicycling trails. Also located in the neighborhood, the Fort Stevens Recreation Center offers a playground, tennis court, and a water feature.
Situated north of 16th Street Heights and south of Shepherd Park, Brightwood is a popular and growing neighborhood, known for its row houses. Because it is in the northern section of DC, doesn't have a Metro station, and is completely residential without the presence of bars and nightlife, Brightwood hasn't been on the radar of most Washingtonians -- until now.

Property Ratings at The Rittenhouse
I came in to ask for a two bedroom apartment and Johnny was the one who attended me. He was very nice , talkative and explain the whole process from the start to end. Was very easy to reach out if i had any questions. Overall, good experience .

We're happy to hear of your great experience with our staff at the Rittenhouse. Thank you for sharing your experience. - The Team at the Rittenhouse
So I’ve been at Rittenhouse now for four months and this has been an absolute pleasure of an apartment to live in. For starters the entire application process/viewing of building is started with such a personable human, Johnny. He seriously made the experience that much easier with all the paperwork and questions I had from moving out of state he was ON it, that didn’t stop once we moved in. Whenever I’ve needed anything from the office Johnny’s been there. Then you have the management staff Desmond that literally is on top of everything. Maintenance Matt (as I like to call him) has fixed everything we needed and checked A/C/heating units as the seasoned changed without hesitation. The 24/7 concierge desk is always a help and also extremely friendly. Seriously contact Rittenhouse yesterday.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the Rittenhouse. We love to hear how helpful the staff has been and we are thrilled to hear you are enjoying your experience at the property. - The Team at The Rittenhouse
When previewing this apartment - think twice... Building was recently sold. A tenant's association was formed. Further news is forthcoming. Roaches plague the building on multiple levels. Exterminator has weekly appointment. Not much progress considering you can watch the roaches play in the laundry facilities on each floor and sometimes watch them crawl upon the wall when you are walking to your apartment from the elevator. Hallway lighting fixtures burn-out frequently and it takes weeks for them to be replaced. Building is in need of a major upgrade - fitness center, appliances in apartments, leaky faucets, rugs in hallways, lobby. No kitchen ventilation - smells linger to hallways and/or set off fire alarms frequently. Water shut-offs for 'emergency' repairs happen FREQUENTLY. Garbage chutes located in the hallway, at times, produce awful smells. No ventilation in the hallways - smells linger for days. Pool was closed for an extended period during the 'summer' months. Pros: Safe Rock Creek across the street Bus stop in front of building Rent controlled
The apartments at the Rittenhouse are large, well laid out, and very nice overall. The building itself, though, is older and has issues. The carpets in the hallways are old and dingy. There are frequent plumbing issues in the building that necessitate the water being turned off to the whole building. Overall I would say that it would be hard to find as nice an apartment for the money in DC, but the trade off is that the building is not so nice.
I love living here! I never hear police sirens or fire sirens. It's a really quiet neighborhood and the concierges are really nice. The building is pretty old but it's still cool. Although I like it the amenities need to be upgraded like in the gym and at the pool. Still love it though
