West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

Property Ratings at The Riverview
DO NOT- and I mean DO NOT lease from this complex. This is the worst apartment complex I have EVER dealt with- and I have lived in Charleston for a while. Never have I ever witnessed such inhumane conditions- hundreds of roaches, nonfunctioning AC, nonfunctioning toilet and shower, black mold, rotting wood in all closets. The neighbors to my right had the same and the ones above had mice. And not to mention the smell- because of the lack of trash-pick up, the massive infestation of roaches, and the black mold- it smells like something died- all. the. time. The management is unhelpful, compulsively lies, and doesn't respond. I am so grateful I was able to get out of this disgusting joke of a complex- we didn't even stay 6 days. However, I feel so bad for those whom this company continues to take advantage of. So many families live in this complex and have no other option. Shame on this company!

I get extremely dizzy with flu like symptoms from the mold to which I am highly reactive to. Units smell of mold and my clothes all smell musty and old. We had property management say it was just condensation, and because I was not on the lease they didn't even want to talk with me and I needed to be placed on lease as occupant and have background check run. I stay only 2 days per week and I believe guests should matter as well. So,my husband had to pay a 300 transfer fee and right at 200.00 extra in rent per month to move to the top floor and guess what?? Mold in that apartment as well. I had to sleep in my car due to the reaction again and then someone tried to break into the vehicle at 3:37 in the morning.. No one has tried to work with us on resolving the issue, and make good to keep good tenants satisfied and happy. we have had to pay so much money trying to clean the moldy unit and me having to stay at hotels and nights in my car just to visit my husband who resides there. I even went through to clean the apartment and purchased hepa filters and I am still sensitive to the air after 20 minutes of exposure. The sad thing is other people may not be as reactive and aren't even away of the danger they have put themselves in. Also, the toilets overflow when there is heavy rain and our walk in closet and part of the the bedroom and bathroom flooded as well.

It has been wonderful, as long as I stay in Charleston I hope to stay here. It has exceeded my expectations. Not only is the staff nice but the people who live here and make up the community are wonderful and friendly.

Thank you for your kind words about Ashford Riverview, Amberly! We are happy to have you as both a resident of Ashford Riverview and an employee!
I have never left a bad review in my entire life but my experience after living here for one year has been so horrific that i had to warn incoming people. Management takes no concern for it’s residents, and is only focused on collecting their money. Our “renovated” apartment has small, outdated cabinets, moldy bathrooms and an air conditioner that barely works. I should’ve realized upon my moving date being moved multiple times in the beginning that this would be a terrible experience. Contrary to being by the marsh, which is supposed to be the nicest spot in the complex, the place is straight up gross and I constantly come across cockroaches the size of a tennis ball. Every time I have reached out to management I was blown off and told that they didn’t have record of my issues. Not to mention, the parking lot offers very limited parking and people are regularly out there blasting music, being excessively loud. Amenities have been closed since the time I moved in with the pool only being open for a month (only to be closed again). Any good reviews left must be left by management affiliates because there is not a single good thing I can think of about this place.

I came to visit family that live here. Yes the property has it’s rough patches, but you can see the great progress to making this place look amazing. I got the chance to speak with many of the staff, they all know how to stop and at least share a laugh with the tenants. If my family and I decide to move this way, this place will be our starting spot. We love how close it is to all the sites of Charleston.

The Carlyle is a nice little community. Everybody seems to mind their own but very friendly when encountering other residents. . The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They do a very nice job keeping up with the landscape and make sure that the residents needs for their homes are met.

We have lived here for about 6 months. The staff in the office was great during all of the bumps in our move, especially Melissa and Ken. Its really quiet and the neighbors are all so nice. The apartments are nice too. the bedrooms are spacious and there are plenty of closets for storage. They also love our pets. I would recommend this complex :).

I've enjoyed living here for the past year and a half. The staff in the office are very helpful and wonderful to talk to. Maintenance does their best to get things fixed in a timely manner, some things sometimes taking longer than others. The location is nice, walking distance or a short drive to the grocery store or restaurants in the area. Convenient for me to get to work and a great price.

I have lived at The Carlyle for over a year and had no issues hence why I renewed my lease for another year. They have renovated all of the apartments so everything inside has been upgraded and looks great. The community is great as well, neighbors are very friendly and everyone knows each other. The staff here is great they even do competitions sometimes where you can win gift cards or receive a discount off of your rent for the month. Staff is super friendly and will help you out if there are any concerns about the complex. Maintenance has a great turn around time as well if anything goes wrong in the apartment. I recommend living here if you are looking for a safe and friendly community.
I have had nothing but a 5 star experience living at The Carlyle! From the office staff, especially Melissa have been extremely helpful from helping me choose the right floor plan to letting me know when I have a package waiting for me in the office. Most other apartments I have lived in do not compare to the staff at The Carlyle. They have also recently remodeled the apartments with current amenities which make it feel that much more comfortable. I do not have one negative thing to say!!!
This is by far the best apartment community I've ever lived in! Not only is the staff (maintenance included) attentive and responsive to issues, they really make you feel like you're at home (I'm looking at you Melissa and Bart!) The grounds are beautiful, as is the marsh and dog park. Not to mention the athletic club and pool! Best in Charleston by far.
Looked at this place today. The outside is dirty, spider webs everywhere, overgrown landscaping & trash in the hedges.

I have lived here for 1 years and I just renewed my lease. They spiked my rent by almost $100, boy what an increase! Then a new company took over. Since then the pool has lost it's sparkle. (meaning it's mean and green with slime). The laundry room, oh me oH my> broken machines, every time. have i called and complained?! of course bottom line - pick me, pick me. let me have a helping hand to save some money and get out once lease ends. a poetic, pathetic, haiku for help.
