I chose this property because it had a spacious layout and is in close proximity to work. The staff here is great! They respond promptly to requests. However, I live below someone and it is awful. I can literally hear every noise coming from their apartment. The running and walking around prevents me from enjoying my apartment. I plan on moving when my lease expires.
Property Manager at The Rothbury, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your balanced review of The Rothbury. We are happy to hear that you like the spacious apartment layouts and that our dedicated staff has been attentive to your needs. We are, however, sorry to hear about the noise transfer issues you are having. While some noise is expected in apartment living, we'd like the chance to talk with you about your situation. Please give us a call or stop in our office at your earliest convenience so that we can see if there's something we can do. Thank you.
I lived here for a year and it was a complete nightmare. The second day I moved in, a very disgruntled old man was convinced I was stomping on the top floor at 2am, even though I'm fast asleep by 9pm. The complex is very loud in general and there are people smoking in the building, so I'm not sure why he singled me out. He tried to assault me in my apartment, but of course the Rothbury did absolutely nothing about this when I reported the incident. All the appliances are terrible and I went without a working oven for 5 months (thank god for toaster ovens). The hot water didn't last longer than 3 minutes, so I became an expert at quick showers. I only once enjoyed a bath here when I boiled hot water on the stove like I was living in a third world country. Additionally, I lost my keys once and it took 2 months to get a replacement. I understand a week or maybe two, but it was completely ridiculous. The smell of this apartment complex made me so nauseous I actually lost weight until I acclimated. Somehow the smells changed every day, each time a little worse than before. The walls of the hallways were dingy and filthy. Don't forget the elevator broke for 2 weeks and became 3x slower than before it was fixed. The door security also regularly broke and went weeks without getting fixed, which was a huge security issue, especially since there are some shady folks in the area. The dumpsters were constantly overflowing so people would throw trash all over the adjacent area. The area is also sketchy and my fiancee was mugged walking to the giant in the neighboring shopping center. It's 20-25 minutes to the nearest highway in any direction, but still has the gridlocked rush hour traffic of DC. The icing on the cake was the extra 2000$ I had to pay when they auto-renewed my lease instead of prorating for the few extra days I was there. I still haven't heard about what happened to my security deposit, and at this rate, I'll probably never get it back. The only positives are the maintenance guy, who is actually really nice and helpful, and the front desk staff, who are nice and professional even when they're screwing you over.

We're sincerely sorry to hear that your experience with The Rothbury fell short of your expectations. Our team is committed to serving our residents in order to provide and maintain a happy, comfortable home and we are saddened that you feel that was not reflected during your time here. We will certainly utilize your valuable feedback to help us improve and better serve our residents moving forward, as we do with all feedback that we receive.
I really like this apartment community. I have two bedrooms and a loft. This apartment is very spacious. We have an amazing fitness center and community room. I am located in waking distance to three shopping centers as well. I have met many of my neighbors through the diffent resident events. This is great place to live.
I've been living in The Rothbury for a little over a year now, and compared to other apartment communities that I've previously lived in, it's really nice. Our apartment is beautiful, the rooms are very spacious, and the amenities such as a walk-in closet, a washer and dryer in the apartment, and large bathrooms, make the home enjoyable to live in! We have a balcony, and a loft in our apartment as well, that are just added features that contribute to the loveliness of the apartment. Another great thing about this apartment community is the abundance of parking, it really makes a difference when choosing a home! There's a playground, a pool, and a community building that you can reserve for a party; and the leasing office frequently host events for the residences such as Thanksgiving dinners, and "fight nights" to watch Pay Per View fights. They are constantly hosting contest and events to bring the community together and help you get to know each other. Another feature I enjoy is the fitness center, conveniently located next to my building :) There are many different workout machines offered to help residents stay in shape! Another great amenity offered by The Rothbury, is that some of the buildings have elevators! This was a great help when I moved in, since I live on the 4th floor! Lastly, the Rothbury is adjacent to two shopping centers, and a 10 minute walk to another near by. There is a Giant, Liquor Store, 2 Beer and Wine Stores, McDonald's, CVS, Subway, Hair Cuttery, Pizza Hut, Capital One Bank, Shell gas station, two nail salons a pet store, a veterinary clinic, as well as a Greek, African, and Chinese restaurant within 5 minutes walking distance. The shopping center 10 mins walking distance and 3 by car has a Safeway, Wing Stop, Beer and Wine Store, UPS, 7 Eleven, a gas station, and a nail salon as well. The apartment is located near two bus lines (58, 64), and 15 minutes away from the Shady Grove metro station. There are hiking trails, parks, and many other activities near by that make living here a convenience. I have really enjoyed my time here at The Rothbury!
