The Russell, beautiful community. The neighbors are nice and the staff is very professional and helpful. We love walking on the small trails around the area, we’re walking distance to Hillsdale mall, wholes food and more.

We picked this building because of its amenities, which were still open with limited capacity, 1 household reservation at a time during COVID when we moved in. Since December, they decided that all amenities will be shut, including outdoor amenities which under state regulations are not required to be closed and could continue to operate with a 1 household at a time system with low risks to the community. However, management decided that shutting everything was a good idea and despite multiple requests to explain why outdoor public pools are open and a community, 1-household-at-a-time pool needs to be closed, there has been no actions to resolve. If we paid this huge price to live in a community with amenities, and management decided to close them beyond what is required by state or county regulations, a deduction in rent at least should be given but no. Maintenance staff is great, location is good and those get the one star. Management is unhelpful and like many others have mentioned, leaves a lot to be desired. Update on move-out: I cannot give a worse rating to this place. Upon move out, not only did the guy who checked our apartment and the manager say different things about the cost of paint job, and I had to reconcile after numerous emails before they finally reduced the crazy painting fees they wanted to charge for painting extremely clean walls, they also misrepresented facts and refuse to let me pay the balance online - insisting that I need to physically deliver them a check and that it shouldn’t be so difficult for me to do just that. I am so glad we no longer have to deal with this management. The apartment location is wonderful but dealing with these people is just extremely unpleasant. Avoid at all cost.

Having lived in many apartment communities around the SF Bay Area, The Russell is the place I've been happiest to call home. The location is stellar, it's really hard to emphasize that enough. I believe this is the best apartment location in terms of access to places you'd want to go, outside the SF city limits. And importantly, this is without giving up amenities/service/staff that regularly exceed my expectations.

I really like living at the Russell. The amenities and the location are wonderful. The office staff is also helpful and friendly and now that we are able to use more amenities, I'm very happy to meet more residents. I am though concerned about the ongoing theft and the lack of security cameras. This seems an easy fix for an upscale and pricey apartment complex.

I love the service I get here.
We love living here so far. Easy to move in with the large elevator and wide hallways. Beautiful units, spacious balconies, and in a gorgeous area for daily walks.

Overall my family's experience at The Russell has been positive. The apartment complex is bright and welcoming. The apartments have nice quality appliances, window coverings, and fixtures. There is an excellent amount of storage space which surprised me. The amenities are attractive and well maintained. The maintenance crew is responsive and gets the job done. Love the convenience of the concierge system in the mail room. The location is excellent with easy walking to Starbucks, Whole Foods, eateries, and dry cleaners. The 101 Fwy is a 3 min drive but you never hear the traffic. I would recommend The Russell.

Great location, easy access to the Caltrain, close to shopping and grocery stores and very convenient when talking the dog for a walk.
Has actually been a great place for us with a convenient location to transportation, stores, supplies, and restaurants, a nice community, and good amenities (although things like the in-unit washer & dryer could use some work). Only reason for the 2 stars is because this isn't the place to stay long-term and call home. You probably only want to rent this place if you are planning to stay only the first lease term or you have all the money and simply don't care. Despite some really awesome and nice community & leasing managers and a nice welcome offer for the first lease, your renewal offer will most likely jump up over 6% like ours, and the property managers who have the actual say in pricing won't budge when you try to discuss it. This was extremely disappointing because we hate moving so frequently and thought this would be the place to call home for awhile. Unfortunately, property managers didn't care otherwise. Also, just like any place, you'll just have to roll the dice on neighbors. We were on the 3rd floor and we're a pretty patient & tolerant couple (heck, we make some noise ourselves on occasion along with everyone else), but we had a neighbor who blasted their music like crazy before or after midnight every so often, an upstairs neighbor who seems to walk with a very heavy heel and slam their doors a lot during quiet hours, and what-we-assume-to-be an Airbnb'er or renter next door with guests & cleaners coming in from time to time (seemed a little too obvious with the Master Lock on the front door and different faces each time). Unfortunately, the only thing we've seen done is a "friendly reminder e-mail" about quiet hours, which I assume those listed above never cared about or easily ignored. All that being said, The Russell has still been a great place during the 1 year we stayed, but look elsewhere if you want a place to call home and not be priced out.

After owning a house for 34 years all the maintenance is taken care of carefree.
We were looking for a place to settle outside of the city, and we were so pleased to find The Russell. It's the perfect mix of urban and homey, nicely nestled in the Bay Meadows community with beautiful parks and trails, and located near Trader Joes, a Blue Bottle, the Hillsdale Mall, train, and more. The amenities are top notch and the building is meticulously maintained. Neighbors (including the furry ones) are friendly! ~Brenda L
We just left our apartment at the Russell after 8 months of living there because my husband took a job back on the East Coast. We were SO SAD to leave! We loved the building & the location. They did a great job with community events to meet your neighbors & keeping the building super clean all the time. The area just keeps growing! Every time we had friends come visit they wanted to move in. Morgan at the leasing office is fantastic -- incredibly efficient and excellent with her communication. We enjoyed working with her from the moment we set foot in the door on our tour. Wish we could have stayed at this location and can't wait to see how much it's transformed (again) over the next few months with all the additions to the community.

Apartments are really good. Good place. Good children playground. Good neighborhoods. I can say that place a little bit noisy, because trains not so far away. BUT!!!! This apartments have terrible washer machines. It really terrible. It is top load washer. Yes it is modern high-efficiency washer. It fills too low water. My clothes stay dry!! Yes really stayed dry after washing. We have two kids. And we have to load small amount of clothes each time and start wash several times. One time I felt soap on clothes surface after washing. And I had to start again w/o soap. I asked landlord to change washer but manager said that all units have the same washers.
