Property Ratings at The Ruxton Towers
Candidly, I have never written a review like this in my life. I am doing this for the sole purpose to prevent another couple from entering the situation my girlfriend and I are currently in. I thought the review posted on on 10.26.16 was from a disgruntled tenant - I was wrong. Everything described within that review (barring the ceiling, but we've had our own share of maintenance issues) I firmly echo. I have pictures of a mice caught on a trap in my apartment - Yes, it's New York - but the response from Management is laughable - it's actual denial at times. My next door neighbor whom I share multiple walls with - building porters have called his apartment a "nest". Serious, not my words. Please, please, please read.
Do NOT under any circumstance sign a lease to live in this building. Where to begin? Upon moving in, my apartment was filthy. Management made no effort to clean the place whatsoever after the last tenant left. I didn't even get an apology from management. The apartments are made with the poorest quality finishes. It's almost laughable. Worst of all, and this makes this building a complete non-starter, there is a mice and cockroach problem! The building lets tenants sign up for bimonthly fumigation with an exterminator! The situation is so bad that they expect tenants to sign up on a bimonthly basis to rid their apartments of rodents! I could go on for days. The garbage in the basement, located right next to the laundry room, constantly overflows with trash and releases a dreadful stench that literally never goes away - not to mention the flies that have permanently moved in to the basement. The list never ends. I had a ceiling leak that took management over 2 weeks to fix! Took them 4 days to return repeated phone calls and emails. Do not spend one more minute contemplating a move to this building! Cross it off your list now and never look back.
I live and have lived in this pre-war one bedroom since 1991. I was just turning 7 years old when my mother and sister and I moved into this building which used to be a hotel and was on the verge of bankruptcy. It was an interesting experience growing up in a one bedroom with a mother and sister to say the least but living a block from central park and across the street from the infamous Dakota building where the late John Lennon lived and died right in front, shot dead by a crazed fan. I am 31 years old now and took over the lease when my mother decided it was time to leave NY and move to warm and sunny Miami.
