Property Ratings at The Scott at East Village
2 years here was two years too long. Management drags their feet harder than a pet rock and to get them to do anything is impossible. They belittle you and simply want to collect your check. Your neighbors will be a nuisance and the character who are allowed to rent here match the price you're paying to live here. They finally installed security cameras and they will email you daily the same email about referring friends to live there, or the parking program despite not really enforcing the parking. Maintenance isn't the best but at least they smile. It seems everyone in the main office would rather not be bothered. They tried in the beginning with balloons on your birthday and stuff but now it's like bothersome to halfway care in ways other than haphazardly thrown together community events. We've had mice and roaches and the $5 pest control fee doesn't fix it.
Property Manager at The Scott at East Village, Responded To This Review
I'm disappointed to see this feedback and I'm sorry we've let you down. This is certainly not the courteous and accommodating professionalism I expect from our team, and I apologize for any unwelcoming behavior. In regard to your comment about our other residents, we have the same leasing policies for every household. We do send out weekly reminders regarding resident referrals and reminders about the parking program to ensure communication is transparent. The parking program is enforced 7 days a week, between 8PM-8AM, as stated in the reminder email. We respond to all complaints while following Iowa Tenant Landlord Law and Fair Housing Guideline, however, there is only so much we can do if we do not have the proper documentation and/or names behind the complaints. We did a survey a year ago to determine what kinds of events our residents would like, and everyone wanted food. We have done large Fall Fest events, Nacho Bars, Thanksgiving Meal Giveaways, Welcome to Summer Food Trucks, etc. I'm concerned that you've had some pest issues, and I would like to step in and offer my assistance here. Please give me a call when you have a moment, as I won't be able to locate your contact information without a name. Thank you, Brandi - Property Manager - (515) 288-6075
This listing is inaccurate and the information I was given by my leasing agent, Katrina, was simply untrue. The “upgrades” in the apartment are poorly done and incomplete. There is no porch, no disposal, no walk-in closets, no Bluetooth shower head, no hardwood, nothing is what they say it is. They won’t let you see your unit before you sign a lease because they aren’t as advertised. They bribe us with cheap gifts from the dollar store to get people to leave good reviews. It is not a safe place to live. Their only amenity (the gym) has been closed more than its been open due to theft. Bugs and rodents are a weekly occurrence despite paying a monthly pest control fee. Valet trash is a scam, they don’t come half the time and the monthly charge is steep.
Property Manager at The Scott at East Village, Responded To This Review
We appreciate your review, but unfortunately, your feedback is misleading. We take our reviews seriously, and we did not ask for good reviews--all feedback is welcome. Regarding the rest of your comments, we do have Bluetooth shower heads and walk-in closets in select floor plans. The listing does not show that we have disposals. Our gym was closed at the start of COVID in 2020, then residents had to reserve a spot so that we could monitor the number of people, this was all per CDC guidelines. Since then the gym was closed one other time for a month and this was due to a theft. We had already ordered cameras and, to prevent any more theft, the gym was only open during office hours. If you have additional questions, please reach out. Brandi - Property Manager - (515) 288-6075
Definitely one of the best apartment complex management Ive had the pleasure of dealing with. As well as extremely methodical and timely maintenance. Couldnt have asked for a better Property Team.
Overall living here has been a blast for my parents and I, I'd recommend living here!
Enjoying my stay at the Scott which has all the amenities I need. The office and maintenance staff are helpful, friendly, and dedicated to their jobs. The rent is reasonable and the complex is adequately maintained.
I hate this place and think every full time employee here should be replaced. Just don't live here.
Courtney was great in the whole process! She helped me get a great rate on rent, went the extra mile to do a FaceTime tour of the apartment before I moved in, answered all of my questions and concerns with honesty, and made overall move-in a breeze! I had a little incident on move-in day and she made sure to correct it and followed up with me to make sure everything was great. I had a great experience with her and being welcomed into the Scotts!
i love the experience i received here...initially it wasn't the apartment I wanted but the staff was very understanding and I appreciated the helpful way they took to assure me that they understood...I love it here and would definitely recommend renting here
This is not a bad first apartment if you utilize the location. I feel like the main thing that you are paying for is location. I don't utilize the amenities aside from the dog park, which my dog loves! During the day, the view is nice, things are fine, but the lack of light fixtures in the apartment make it very dark at night unless you provide your own. It is odd that there is not a ceiling light in the living room.
this is a great place to meet friendly people, in a vibrant location, with easy access to anywhere youd like to go living in the city! we love it here
This is a wonderful place to live. The lease agreement was simple and fast. The living space is amazing! There are so many places to walk and visit in this area.
Ever sense day one, The Scott has been great to live at. The staff are super nice, and its pet friendly. Who doesn't like animals man? I've lived in Des Moines almost my whole life and this location a few years ago was pretty rough BUT, it has made big changes and is becoming apart of the nicer side of downtown. Overall my girlfriend and I love it here and think more would too. And dont let those bad reviews from forever ago mess with you, come check 'em out and meet the staff.
The renovations done to these apartments are very surface level! All of the renovations are cheaply done, and when you are being shown an apartment it may look great, but once you move in, you’ll see all of the problems. They don’t clean apartments before you move into them and they don’t take care of the roaches and bed bugs either. There are a lot of safety issues at hand at this complex and they are trying to cover up all of their negative reviews by giving themselves five stars. This should be your LAST choice. This complex has given us nothing but issues since we moved in!
Going on two years living here - location is fantastic, right off/on the highway, in the heart of the East Village and very near to where I work. The management and maintenance staff are fantastic (always helpful and quick to respond) and have put a lot of work into the renovation and upkeep these apartments. Earlier this year they opened a grill-out area. Recently they opened up a 24/7 gym! Can't wait to see what else is in store!
I visited this apartment complex as we are looking to move to Des Moines. The location is great. Downtown, beautiful view. Apartments were very nice. Newly remodeled. We were accompanied by Courtney. She was fantastic! Very pleasant and helpful. Fitness center is great!
The new renovations have made the place stand out significantly in a good way. The staff has always helped me with any concerns and care about what I have to say. Great place!
Really happy we decided to move here. We love the dog park and the Fitness Center. They have a PELATON BIKE!!! It's 24/7 so I can get in anytime I want. Big kitchen space and I have a great view of downtown and we don't have to pay for parking and it's really close to my job. The staff was really helpful and Karen and Stephanie kept us updated on any construction delays. Worth checking out!
We love living at the Scott! The crew that takes care of management and maintenance are an incredible and hard-working bunch! I've never had a problem they haven't worked with me to fix. The gym is brand new and has more than I could have asked for (including a peleton bike!!) Outside the building continues to improve with parking lot resurfacing, new brighter lights, and a cute patio with grilling space. The building has plenty of fun activities to get involved in if you're interested: a grilled cheese bar this month, taco night last month, Dunkin Donuts every Monday morning!! We have lived here for two years happily with our two cats in a basement level apartment, we love that our utilities costs stay constant (and low!) And there is an app for on site maintenance that makes it super easy to report any issues you have. You can't beat the price and location, and did I mention free parking? :):):)
This place has gone through a very large renovation. The staff here is amazing and they are attentive to every need. They host events once a month and never make me feel as if I’m unwelcome. I love living here and will continue to refer my friends for years to come!
The apartment complex itself is disgusting and infested with bugs - specifically roaches. The management is so unpleasant. I will never recommend living here to anyone!
This place should be 0/5 stars if it was possible. Do not move in here. Leasing office is awful and don't care about their residents. Actual buildings are garbage. Just don't even consider this place.
